Hey guys! Wondering if anyone has experience with navy bags that they’d like to share.

Any rehab experiences, with sort of navy, sort of black bags?
If so, did yours turn out to be navy, or black?

I’m kind of considering a maybe-navy, maybe-black one. The seller can’t tell, but she’s leaning towards the color being navy, when looking in natural light. It’s from before 1994. (This one doesn’t look like it’s faded black to me, and it looks clean.)

I have a navy pre-1994 Pocket Purse, and a navy 1998 Willis that are both clearly navy.
They were clearly navy when I got them, and after being dunked and conditioned with CPR and Blackrock.

Ever purchased from a seller who couldn’t tell that a bag was definitely navy?

Anyone know if the older bags were produced in a darker shade of navy, compared with later bags (e.g. mid 90s, late 90s, etc.)?

I often wonder about this stuff when I see bags online, that look like they could be navy or black.
The navy used on NYC bags is very dark, almost black. It is very hard to tell the difference, especially when the bags have been used and exposed to the elements. Later bags, such as in the 90s and 2000s, had a more defined bluer navy.

Okey! Thanks so much!

I'm looking at this one now. You mentioned on the authentication thread that it's hard to tell color from pictures. I'm thinking about that advice right now.

The seller can't tell the color for sure, looking in person (but she thinks it looks more like navy than black, in natural light).
In pictures, this one looks so clearly navy to me.

Makes me wonder if the navy at this time was darker. Or do you find that the navy from this time is the same color as bags from the mid-90s / late-90s / 2000s?

And makes me wonder if I'm crazy, to be clearly seeing navy.

If possible, would love to learn from your experience. May I ask, have you seen pictures like this before, and ended up with a black bag, especially after a dunk and conditioner?

Does anyone have experience rehabbing the soft, smushy leather of the 2009 Parker bags? I got a Parker Shoulder Flap 13412 (made in 2008 and released in 2009) Pilot bag from the Goodwill yesterday for only $7 but it is completely filthy, especially the interior. Soaking this bag in the bath may not be enough, I might have to run it through the washer to try and remove all the stains the dried gunk (food and/or bodily fluids? Yuck!) caked inside the zip pocket.

This one is going to need some heavy duty cleaning, but I am worried about damaging the soft leather so I would appreciate some advice.

Also, can you spot any differences between my pilot bag and the production model of this bag? The only difference I've found is that the creed patch doesn't have gold lettering. Thanks!

I found a small pink Parker at a flea market last fall. There was a lot of wear on the corners and a bit of grime. I did my standard dunk process and used Leather CPR, maybe a bit more sparingly as it dried. The leather rehabbed wonderfully, better than I thought. The lining in mine only had a few random pen marks.
Yuck on the lining. I would feel comfortable running through the washer. My bag did 20 min in my sink for a wash , then 20 more for a rinse. The leather is thinner than glove tanned, giving it a softer quality. Which I think bodes well for going through the washer. Good luck!

I think it is probably black. When I take pictures of black purses, they often come out blue or purple. Some has to do with the camera misinterpreting the color, and some has to do with reflections of nearby items.

Thank you so, sooo much!
I don't even have a single black one to refer to, nevermind the wealth of experience that you do!
I don't really want a black one right now. That's such a huge help! Thanks again!

Also, may I ask, is there anything I can learn from this that will help me determine these things going forward?
Indicators that make the bag likely to be black?

Maybe this could be an opportunity for me to learn to fish for myself just a little bit better. ;D

That looks navy to me. My Willis is a dark navy that could be mistaken for black. I want to say it is from 1994? The photo that really looks navy to me is the interior shot of the creed patch, that looks blatantly blue on my screen.

The best indicator of color is the back of the inside pocket. This is the area with the least wear and least exposure to sun and elements. Then put it next to a bag you know is black and see if you see any difference. Usually an older navy looks black to me unless I put it next to black.

I accidentally bought a navy Willis thinking it was black. After I paid for the bag I was looking through the auction pics again and I noticed a hint of blue in the back pocket, as Whatev mentioned. I also noticed that the edge coating on the strap and on the tab around the turn lock looked a little blue. The leather itself still looks black to me unless it's right next to a black bag.

I purchased a "black" 1994 Willis several years ago. It looks navy to me. I've tried to convince myself it's black. But, when I compare it to other black leather bags the blue pops.

Thank you SO much! Woo, I learned something new!

I'm assuming that this is what you're referring to, by the back of the inside pocket? The suede?

Thanks, that's helpful!

May I ask, do you like the dark, dark navy on your Willis?
Do you have other navy vintage Coach bags that are more clearly navy, and if so, do you prefer them?
Wondering if I should wait for bags that are more true navy to come along, or if you enjoy the very dark navy.

Ok, so it is possible for a bag to be such dark navy that it can look like black. That's very good to know.
