Thanks, that's helpful!

May I ask, do you like the dark, dark navy on your Willis?
Do you have other navy vintage Coach bags that are more clearly navy, and if so, do you prefer them?
Wondering if I should wait for bags that are more true navy to come along, or if you enjoy the very dark navy.
I do like it, the older Coach bags were this darker blue/black color and it never bothered me that it was super dark blue. I have a photo of it on this forum, let me see if I can find it and show you.

@whateve Thanks sooo much for the info about the back of the inside pocket!!
It's awesome, and it's helped already!
A seller had a bag up that was listed as black, but in one of the pictures, it looked maaaybe like it could be navy. I asked the seller to check the back of the inside pocket; they quickly identified the color as navy, and let me know and updated the listing.
And other seller had a bag listed, that looked very navy in pictures. With that tip, she was able to check and confirm the color was black.
And now, don't know how I lived without that!
THANK YOU!! :panic:

Hoping for an opinion from those more experienced than me.
May I ask: do you think this will rehab well?

I'm starting to feel kind of nervous about it.

The bag definitely has some wear, like:
- Edges, including the corners
- Top handle - Edges (at the back of the bag)
- Loops
- I shouldn't be worried about the leather around the turnlock, should I? (Shown in last picture, below.)

I could see a navy Court becoming the bag I wear most, including for work. So I'd really like it to turn out nicely and look professional.
I'm wondering if I went for a bag that's a bit too worn out already?

(Don't think the listing is relevant, but just in case you're curious: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-COACH-Court-Bag-9870-Top-handle-Crossbody-Satchel-Purse-Dark-Blue-Navy/113762554028)

P.S. Let's say you start with a bag like this, and rehab it. And then wear it quite a lot, so it's not in great condition. Do you find you're able to rehab the bag again, down the road? (Realize this depends on what kind of damage you do to it. But just curious, in general.)
If you get a bag that's in great condition from the get-go, and don't rehab it as soon as you get it, I'm assuming that's ideal? So you can rehab the bag later?

Did you buy the bag already? I think it looks quite good, but I'm not an expert. You could probably get away with just blackrocks and touching up edge paint if you just want to start wearing right away.

If you haven't bought the bag you could wait for a New Old Stock to come up for sale, if this one is concerning you.

I bought this exact style, in navy, as unworn stock. The edges and corners are pristine! It has indentation marks on the leather from storage, however, so nothing is perfect ;)

I really think that after a dunk, polishing the brass, stuffing so it dries in a crisp shape ( i love using cardboard cut to shape to block out all of the interior panels - others here use foam core) shaving off any hairy strap bits and finishing with edge paint, then burnishing the edges and buffing the whole bag....it sounds like a lot but I bet that bag will be very wearable if not gorgeous

Oh, and my turnlock has small cuts around the leather like yours. Those are just openings in the leather for intalling the turnlock. Normal.

I think you can rehab this bag easily! A dunk and conditioner should even out the color and the leather around the turnlock looks just like mine and it's fine. My black Court bag was in way worse shape and it looks perfect now. Very professional and my favorite.

My first rehab! I (nervously) dunked it today, and it looks like a lot of the gunk came off the outside. The inside looks much better, too. There was one spot on the front that didn’t come off — I actually think that spot looks worse now than it did before, but maybe it will look better when it dries.

These are the pictures before I dunked it. I’ll post after pictures when I’m done.

The previous owner must have been dissatisfied with the strap drop, so she made two of her own holes in the strap. I didn’t notice this before I bought it — oh, well. (The placement of the homemade holes is actually perfect for me, but I’m reluctant to use them.)

It's too bad when seller's don't disclose modifications like that.

If the holes in the strap bother you and you don't want to use them, you can fill them in with a bit of Fiebing's leather cement and paint over them with a matching fabric paint mixed with conditioner.

Or, if you want to use them, you could get a leather punch and re-punch them so they have nice round edges. (Or you could pay a leatherworker to do that.)

@nursebetty Thanks so much! And curious about a couple of things you mentioned!
When you use cardboard (or foam core), do you wrap it with Saran Wrap, and/or towels, or anything?

Burnishing? Do tell me more please? I've seen the term burnishing, and re-burnishing, when it comes to strap edges. I've looked up how it's done when it comes to leatherworking, with a new leather item. I don't have a good idea of what it entails when it comes to vintage Coach.

You lucky duck, finding this new. An Etsy find, or somewhere else?

:girlsigh: I really want a nice Court.

I purchased the bag.
When I looked at this bag, I didn't look at it too closely or consider it too much. My bad. The seller said it was in good condition, and I just went ahead and bought it.
In a subsequent message, the seller mentioned the edge wear. I think she noticed that, after that message, my enthusiasm diminished.

Then, a couple of hours ago, she gave me the option to cancel by today if I'd like.

Sigh. I don't know.
