When the bag is closed, the sides are supposed to fit flush. I don't think I could attach a jump ring because there isn't a place to attach it. Thank you for the idea though, I appreciate it

I really think a bag that beautiful and valuable that is badly damaged may require professional repair. I know that you sent it to coach and they said it couldn't be repaired but you could still take it to a reliable shoe or luggage repair shop and ask for an opinion and a price quote. It doesn't hurt to ask but only leave the bag if you get a good feeling after talking with the repairman.
I have posted pics in the past of the repairs of my Cashin Small Shopper bag and Mahogany Patricia's Legacy bags that were badly damaged. I had them repaired professionally by a local cobbler that has been in business in the area for a long time. He did a great job on both of them and he didn't charge much.
Over the years I have brought other small repair jobs to him and I am always happy with the results. A couple of times he has told me that he couldn't repair a bag properly and that I wouldn't be happy with the results if he tried, and I appreciated his honesty. It doesn't hurt to ask and you don't have to leave the bag at the shop if you are unhappy with the price or you have reservations.
Below are pics of the professional repairs to my Cashin Small Shopper and Mahogany Patricia's Legacy; I am very happy that I decided to consult a professional first before attempting such major repairs myself.
Cashin Small Shopper, leather and linking had slipped out of the kisslock frame:
