I can't say for sure what's going on there, but a couple of possibilities come to mind:

2. Not drying enough before applying conditioner. It should be damp but not wet. If you conditioned it the same day you dunked it, I'm thinking maybe you didn't wait long enough.
Interesting. I often start applying conditioner within an hour after taking my bag out of the sink! Basically once it stops dripping. Although when I started rehabbing a few years ago, I was using so much more conditioner than I do now. I was using so much more of everything. I am a bit more sparing these days.

How many coats do you typically have to apply before the bag feels soft? I recently finished soaking a red Court Bag and applied maybe 4-5 coats of CPR over 4-5 days and the bag still doesn't feel as supple as my un-dunked bags. She looks amazing but doesn't feel soft. The bag was authenticated here, I know she's genuine.

Good question and other opinions, of course are welcome. Side note, I am rehabbing my first Court too!
My bags generally improve with 2-3 apps of Leather Therapy RC/ Leather CPR. This is my thinking only, perhaps they chose a stiffer leather for the Court because it has a more structured shape. Also, the flap is lined, the back and under the flap is reinforced with slip pockets so while the leather is supple on my Court after CPR and Obenauf’s Oil (it was super dry) it is not squishy like my red Pocket Bag that lived it's life on a shelf and does not have a lines flap! It’s boxy shape is reinforced by the lined flap and slip pockets.
I have also come to accept that for reasons unknown to me, the leather rehabs differently on some bags. I have had a few meh rehabs, a lot of good to great outcomes and a few a-may-zing outcomes.

Which do you apply first, the CPR or the Obenaufs? Do you ever use Blackrocks? I don't have any Obenaufs but I do have CPR and Blackrocks. Do you condition the suede lining too or just the smooth leather?

I just gave my worn wallet a makeover. Before: all the shiny gold finish was worn and mostly gone in various places.
After: I used Sharpie gold metallic permanent marker. I like the matte metallic finish much better than the shiny one. View attachment 4044672View attachment 4044673

Update: this didn't work. The sharpie layer totally rubs off.

1. CPR always before O Oil. I wait 24 hours after the last app of CPR to apply O Oil. And I do buff in between apps of CPR. ( just to be clear on Obenauf’s Oil, as opposed to another product they sell) O Oil is a deep conditioner and may deepen the hue of neutral and lighter bags. Others here have said the bags returns to original hue in time. That has not been my experience.
2. I typically usually use Blackrock as a finish.
3. I do not apply anything to the suede interior. Suede is not processed to accept conditioner.

I have used gold acrylic paint on leather with pretty good success.

Ditto that and especially do not get anywhere near the suede lining with Blackrock on your fingers! It does not absorb.

This is the same bag (taken under different lighting) a few days apart. Accidental touch of CPR in the top photo, accidental touch of Blackrock in the bottom photo. The CPR went away somewhat, but the Blackrock stayed. Lesson learned.

Omg! Do you know how many time I touch the suede with conditioner! I'm notorious for it lol, nothing is worse than have your bag come out flawless aaaand then you make the suede all greasy. I got a suede eraser just for that reason...*deep breath* rant over lol:panic:

So I found this really cool bag at a local antiques mall today. It looks like a Dinky, but I have no idea of the style. It's a made in New York City in what looks like Tan or British Tan. The leather, while scratched up, is surprisingly supple, it just needs some TLC. I just dunked it and now it hangs to dry, all stuffed. I cannot wait to put Blackrocks on it and see how gorgeous it gets! Here's some in progress photos...20190309_122832.jpg20190309_122843.jpg20190309_122857.jpg20190309_124112.jpg20190309_124121.jpg

Nice find! It's probably a Pocket Purse #9755:

Are you planning to do a couple of coats of conditioner, such as Leather CPR, before the Blackrock?

Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Yes, I have to pick some up at my local BBB, it shows they have it in stock. It wasn't super dirty, but I know the leather absorbs conditioner better when dunked. I have a 1990's, made in the USA Willis, but this sucker is different. It is HEAVY! And the leather feels like a well loved baseball glove. I just couldn't leave it behind [emoji1]

Thanks for the info on the style, it looks exactly like that style!

I am still working on this dinkyish thing with the kisslock inside and I'm not at all happy with it. The scratches on this did not diminish with washing. And now I have used every conditioner over the last couple of weeks on it and they didn't smooth them out either. It's hard to describe, but the leather is somehow weird... I tested for shoe polish but nada. It does seem kinda possibly painted or somehow treated but it's not coming off with acetone. The outside flap is a slightly different color to the inside of the bag. I'm thinking I might sand the whole thing over with extra fine sandpaper so the pores will be reopened.. kinda scratching it all over so it's even then conditioning it again. Or is that too crazy? Pictures aren't working for me right now.
