I've been working on this Made in China 11640 today. Machine washed on "eco warm". I just may have set the ink stains. The lining was filthy. This is what's left for stains. Exterior leather is dreamy. Luckily, I had a replacement hangtag. I'm a sucker for this lining.
I tried in this order. 91% rubbing alcohol with a q-tip. Angelus dry cleaner and spot remover with a q-tip and an old sonicare toothbrush. And finally acetone on a white washcloth.

Nice job! I am a sucker for this lining too. I impulsively bought this big dirty suede rug of a bag with this lining last Feb that I have been avoiding rehabbing. I realize if I want to enjoy it this winter, I better post it and get some suggestions on cleaning it. Now.

I have some before and after rehab pics to share, 2 easy rehabs and one difficult job. The first item is hardly worth calling a rehab because it was so easy.

I found a Hamptons Weekend Patchwork Wristlet at Savers for $10 and it looked as though it had never been used. I surely don't need any more wristlets but I thought it would look good with some of those beach bags that I love, and the striped hangtags were cute, so I bought it.

Hyacinth confirmed that it was genuine and to my surprise told me that the Hamptons Patchwork design has been faked - I would have thought that it was too complicated to fake, but I guess those crooks are enterprising! The style number is 40429 SV MT and it was released in Spring 2007 for $98.

The fabric was a bit dusty and the leather felt a little dry but that was all - so it was very simple. I just gave it a sink bath in Dawn, rinsed, air-dried, applied Leather Therapy Restorer and finally Leather CPR, gently rubbed the hardware with a soft cloth - and it was all done!

Here are some before pics and some Coach Ads, I will post the after photos next.

Here's the next project, another simple rehab. It is the Bonnie Pouch Charm 92482 SF9 LM and it was released in Spring 2009 for $58. I saw it when @marissa214 posted the Etsy auction in the authentication thread and Hyacinth confirmed that it was genuine. I thought it was so cute and I love that 65th Anniversary Legacy Striped lining! I asked Marissa to let me know if she decided not to buy it and she graciously told me to "go for it" and so I bought it for $30.

The charm was in very good shape, the original tag was included but it did have some small signs of wear. It was a little grubby and had a few scuffs and scratches, nothing major. I gave it a sink bath in Dawn, rinsed and pulled the lining out to let it air dry, then applied Leather Therapy Restorer and finally Leather CPR and gave the hardware a gentle rub. I considered using Blackrocks to bring out the color more, but I decided to leave it alone although I may go back to it later. What do you guys think?

The first 3 pics below are before and the last 3 are after (not much difference!) I will post Coach ads and a couple of pics of the charm in use with the next message.

This is so cute! I think you got a great price too.

Okay now for the difficult rehab! I found this bag at the Goodwill store for $30 and I probably should have taken pics while it was still at GW and posted them in the "Would You Rehab This Bag?" thread so that you guys could talk some sense into me - but I didn't do that - so I bought it!

I became a Coachie after the 65th Legacy Line had come and gone, but I always loved that line and its beautiful striped fabric, and this bag has always been a bit of an HG for me because I think of it as my "namesake bag". It's the Katy Travel Tote 10396 B4 MC. It was released in 2006 for $398 and Hyacinth confirmed it as genuine. This is the large Katy tote, Coach later released a smaller version.

This poor bag was absolutely filthy inside and out, the pictures don't accurately show just how dirty she was. The corners were worn through, there was snags and frays in the fabric, one of the leather handles was torn, and something gross, like a candy bar, had been left in the inside pocket to melt.

Here are the before pics, I will post some general after pics next and then some before and after close-ups of the damaged areas and tell you about the rehab.

The theme of this project was "leave well-enough (or ill-enough) alone." In the past I have occasionally "gone too far" with a rehab when it would have been better to stop while the bag was looking pretty good. You can always go back to a project later but it is hard to undo something when you have already done too much, but I would appreciate your advice for making it better.

Here are the before pics, this lovely bag was really used and abused!

Here is a Coach ad for the Bonnie Pouch Charm 92782 SF9 LM and also photos of ways that I am currently using the charm. Right now it is an accessory that holds my earbuds inside my Denin Rogue satchel - it's the perfect size!

Adorable. I can see a bit of minor grime on the back in your before pic. Nice, what a little cutie. Thanks for reminding me to pull out a small black change purse, clean it up and use it for my work flash drive.

Here are the after pics, I think that she looks much better and I will wear her as a beautiful, large, lightweight tote. But she still has some serious flaws and she will always be one of those rehabbed bags that looks better from a distance instead of close up.

My first step was to give her a bath in Dawn. I thought about cycling the bag through the washer but decided to try the gentler approach first. The bath water immediately turned dark gray. I eventually gave the bag 4 baths, and I used a gentle nail brush to hand scrub every inch of her inside and out several times! Then I stuffed her and let her dry before the really hard stuff began!

Here are some before pics of the corners, they were so badly worn that a couple of them had actually worn through and had little holes and the fabric was very frayed.

Here are the after pics of the corners, they are as good as I could make them. First I used a small manicure scissors to try and trim the frayed fabric, then I used Fabric Fusion to glue the holes closed and stabilize the corners. Next I applied a small amount of green acrylic paint to try and camouflage the areas. It dried a little darker than I hoped and I thought about mixing a lighter shade and trying again but I decided to leave it alone. Finally I applied some Fray-Check to prevent further damage.

I thought about buying a disposable cigarette lighter and waving the flame over the most worn and frayed areas but I was afraid of setting the bag on fire because there are so many worn areas around the bottom - so once again I left well-enough alone. Do you think I should try to burn off the frays or do you have other suggestions?

The next step was to repair the torn strap and refresh the worn metallic leather. In some places the metallic gold color was completely worn off and the natural leather color came through.

One of the straps was torn. I trimmed the stray threads and then used Fabric Fusion and a clothes-pin to hold it together to repair the tear. Then I used a needle and strong thread to replace the missing stitches.

After that I painted the damaged leather with a Golden Sahara acrylic paint, which was a very good match and didn't require any mixing. The metallic leather was also very worn on the bottom of the bag so I painted it, too.

Here are before pics of the damaged straps and bottom.

Mmmmm. I will let others weigh in on the lighter. I have used the lighter for other projects and pretty sure I don't have the skills to use it on a bag. But really well done, just the same.
Just great, now I will be doing searches for striped totes. Does it ever end?
Off to dunk Beekman I would like to sell.
