Ok @katev - I scored this beautiful tote. Unfortunately, it is pretty dirty and smells like smoke, despite what the seller said. I see you successfully dunked a bag with the mexican stripe lining. I am scared the blue from the leather will run and marr the lining (which is in great shape). Do I have a reason to be scared?View attachment 4232923
That's beautiful. You can spray the lining with Febreze free nature. It works pretty good on smoke. I've sprayed leather too but it says not to - I think because it could spot. I think if you spray a cloth and then wipe it down evenly, it could work. You might need more than one treatment.

Greetings! First time posting over in Rehab and Rescue. I've been reading the backlog and having a great time learning, I'm up to June 2012 now! But I finally actually registered on TPF last night as I had impulsively bought a bag on eBay, and had doubts as to authenticity once I opened the package. Doubts were kindly allayed by Hyacinth in the Authenticate This thread.

My question for the miracle workers and fonts of knowledge over here at Rehab and Rescue is regarding the interior slip pockets. The stitching between the two pockets has come undone. (Since the seller had minimal photos, and the description read, "Good used shape. Some wear ..wear in bottom corners to leather. No rips..just a good polishing. still a lot of life left!" I wasn't expecting any loose stitching. My fault for not asking for more info/pics...!)

I'm fairly certain one of the general cobblers in my area could do something with exterior stitching, but what about interior stitching? Would a cobbler touch an interior? Could they match the thread well enough? Or should I look for someone who does clothing alterations?

General pictures are on the Authenticate This thread, link posted above. So I'll just post the interior pictures of the pockets here.

Any advice/tips on how to address this pocket issue greatly appreciated!

If you don't sew yourself, I would get someone who does clothing alterations. IMO, that can't be machine sewn without opening out more of the stitching, but it could be handstitched in such a way that mimics the original stitching.

Since any triumph over an ink stain must be shared and celebrated, I’ll go ahead. I bought this Berkeley Crescent on eBay:https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/302881378891
I was quite pleased on receiving it. It was squashed and grimy but the ink stains didn’t go all the way through and were only on the exterior. Structurally it was fine. I tried a bit of hairspray and then rubbing alcohol on the ink stain and it didn’t budge. Then I got hold of some Amodex and rubbed it with a white terry towel. I still wasn’t getting any ink, so I decided to treat the whole bag, which needed a deep clean. I soaked the ink stained area with Amodex, put it in a zippered pillowcase and threw it in the washer. I couldn’t find my Dawn, so I used an All free and clear pod. Washed it on delicate with pre- soak in warm water.
The ink came out. It left a slightly lighter spot, which I think is from me rubbing at the area before washing. I shaped it, gave the leather a coat of leather CPR, let it dry. The color was still a bit uneven, so I followed up with Leather Honey to try to darken it. Not sure what I’ll do next, I don’t want to over condition it.
Nice job! Twins

Hmm. I might have to do some research on YouTube for stitch styles. I sew buttons back on shirts, have hand sewn some minor repairs on clothes here and there, and once built a 6 foot stuffed squid tentacle for a costume... but that two sided stitching that a sewing machine does always looks super complicated to me! But if you think it would have a better result hand sewing, I could certainly give it a try myself. I was thinking it would have to be machine done. But that makes sense that a lot would have to be undone in order to re-do it with a machine.

Hmm. Wonder if there's enough of the original thread to just carefully thread that back through the original thread holes...

I wanted this bag to test out refreshing a metallic finish! Now I'm looking at refreshing my sewing skills! Or being reminded of my lack therof... Ha!

Thanks for the advice!

What a disaster! I wonder if they recolored a lighter bag with some kind of refinisher. Oh well, we can all learn from our own and others' mistakes.
Way too high of a price to "rescue" or revive this sad lady.. I don't think you could ever get the leather back to it's previous color and condition .. I think she's... Dead? [emoji1651][emoji3545] (I'm in the spooky Halloween mood if you can't tell [emoji3517][emoji316][emoji3287])

Looking at this bag, but forget the name. Im temptef to click the button. Anyone have stats on this one? It looks smallish, but I've always enjoyed the unique front flap. May be a nice rehab.
