Here are the after photos. Not pristine enough to give as a gift which is what I was hoping for, but a decent Improvement. The leather glows on the outside. I basically gave the whole bag a bath in Dawn. I noticed some dye bleed. I scrubbed it down but probably would have been more agressve if I could pull the lining out.
I repaired the edge kote on the D ring area since the leather was beginning to split. I used leather glue and painted it with black Angelus paint. As I mentioned on the other post I have not perfected my Edge kote process so did not attempt to fix the cracking on the straps.
Overall not a bad improvement.
I purchase for 30 shipped and will probably be able to sell it for 35. LOL. My time spent was probably 4 hours and products used for the leather outside our leather CPR and Black Rocks
Is the leather on this bag vachetta?

Is the leather on this bag vachetta?

In my opinion, no. I have seen the word used a lot by sellers of this and similar Bleecker (tattersall) bags, but I'm not convinced. The Leather Dictionary defines vachetta as:

"...untreated Italian leather often used in luggage and handbag trimming. This leather, which stains easily and darkens in sunlight, has been popularized by high-end brands such as Louis Vuitton and Coach...Vachetta leather is natural coloured and mainly used for bags, suitcases and saddles. However, it is also offered pigmented and/or embossed."

I've never seen a catalog description for these 2007 Bleecker tattersall bags that mentions vachetta. The creed on my former tan Bleecker Shopper 11420 doesn't mention vachetta. On the other hand, the catalog description for the Poppy vachetta line does use the word vachetta.

If someone can find a Coach catalog description for the black Bleecker shopper that uses the word vachetta, I'll change my opinion!

Personally I wouldn't. That is shoe polish and it isn't made for purses. You can use conditioner, such as Blackrock Leather n Rich. If that doesn't fix it, you can add a small amount of black acrylic paint to a thin conditioner, such as Apple or Lexol, and use that to paint the corners. The trick is to only use a small amount of paint so the conditioner is just tinted. I've been used fabric puff paint because it has the right amount of gloss for most purses.

I did see you suggested this product before and am going to order it, I don't find the leather conditioner i have does that great but it was cheap so i'm learning as I go. .... I find i'm not great at trying my hand at leather bags, they seem to always fail me, or I fail it. I'm absorbing all your info like a sponge, thanks for everything

Thank you! The Creed shot confirms glove tanned. Btw that is a stunning bag in the photo!

I've never seen anything to imply that the Bleeckers were made with vachetta. The leather is shiny, which could come from the burnishing. Interestingly, the black versions do not have the burnished wording in the creed, although they are just as shiny. I've heard more opinions that the 2006 Legacy collection leather is vachetta. I've never seen that in a catalog either but the catalogs I have don't have much information in them other than the name of the bag, the color and the price. The Legacy leather does have a different feel, stains easily, and tends to yellow, so I could almost believe that it is vachetta.

Thank you all, all fantastic suggestions... this Kiwi product is exactly what I saw, i'm not sure it was dye really but a little conditioning sponge that does have color in it, quick glance....it doesn't come off?
No, the Kiwi leather dye doesn't come off. It sets when it is dry. It doesn't take long to dry. I usually condition after I've applied the dye then buff. The Kiwi dye has a sponge applicator that makes it easy to use. It is not messy the way other dyes can be.

Are you talking about one of those shoe shine sponges like this one? I don't think I would use that on a bag. I think they contain silicone, which isn't good for your bags.

I think it possibly may be. It feels exactly like the Legacy leather used in the anniversary bags of the same era. I'm not 100% certain.

I spent some time on the Wayback Machine yesterday and found the catalog description from 2007 for the "new" Bleecker Shopper 11420. The leather is described as "soft cowhide leather, " which doesn't tell us much. It could be vachetta, or maybe not. (Oh well, it was fun looking at all those gorgeous bags!)

I can only pray that bag shows up some day at the Plato’s Closet by me! Or one of the consignment shops one town over. I might not be able to resist.

I posted this in the dooney rehab thread but since y’all are more active I thought maybe you could help. I bought 2 dooney’s and need some help with rehab please. This one is AWL and I followed Dooney’s care instructions on cleaning with distilled water, which did nothing. I saw online where people use leather cleaner on AWL and it turns out great. Should I go this route? Also, the handles are very dark and other parts of the leather are lighter but look splotchy. Any fixes on that?
