I posted this in the dooney rehab thread but since y’all are more active I thought maybe you could help. I bought 2 dooney’s and need some help with rehab please. This one is AWL and I followed Dooney’s care instructions on cleaning with distilled water, which did nothing. I saw online where people use leather cleaner on AWL and it turns out great. Should I go this route? Also, the handles are very dark and other parts of the leather are lighter but look splotchy. Any fixes on that?

And on this one, the leather handles have what look to be water spots and the leather is lighter in some areas. What can I do? I have Leather CPR. Should I try that? Any other suggestions? Thanks y’all!

I responded on the Dooney rehab thread; hopefully others will chime in, here or there!

Hi everyone - you all see this? https://goo.gl/8bGRP5 Looks like the liner has been repaired although the seller "can't tell". Also, I don't understand how the long strap is supposed to connect. Did it not have a strap at all originally? If i only had $300....
It's hard to tell if the lining has been repaired or if it just fraying. The hardware on the strap looks too new. I have no idea what the original strap looked like.

I would clean the smooth leather with vinegar, then condition. I've used Blackrocks on my Dooney AWLs. Sometimes you'll have to restore the color with some paint.

Please help! You very knowledgeable ladies, and TIA

I was very happy to find this replacement strap, because of the color and with patent leather in good shape, I thought I was wasting my time looking, but I found one. Problem is that is missing one of clips to attach to the purse.
Here is where I need your help, that ring at the end opens? Can I just buy a set of dog leash clips, lobster clips, trigger clips... and switch them?
If the ring doesn't open, then what kind of clip can I buy?

I don't think that ring opens. If it doesn't open, you may not be able to remove it without cutting it off. You can buy any kind of clips but most are closed on one end, which would make it nearly impossible to get onto your strap. I also think these wouldn't be the prettiest. What I would get would be either the kind of screw-type rings that are on Willis: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Replac...ac2fddeb2:m:mAg0aeuV-uV8_QnXXiM621A:rk:5:pf:0

or gate spring rings like these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wholesale-...ad216f341:m:mFfEkoK6Vatj9StQ8MS0gYw:rk:3:pf:0

I wouldn't use the Willis type unless you can remove the ring that is already there.

What does the other clip look like? I was thinking of the “carabiner” style clip? (Actually I guess they are gate-spring too, just not round.)
Maybe you can find a nice looking one like the ones they use on some of the fobs?

Thank you so much ladies, I think that may be I could try to find the carabiner type, because if not I will have to cut the rings.

Since any triumph over an ink stain must be shared and celebrated, I’ll go ahead. I bought this Berkeley Crescent on eBay:https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/302881378891
I was quite pleased on receiving it. It was squashed and grimy but the ink stains didn’t go all the way through and were only on the exterior. Structurally it was fine. I tried a bit of hairspray and then rubbing alcohol on the ink stain and it didn’t budge. Then I got hold of some Amodex and rubbed it with a white terry towel. I still wasn’t getting any ink, so I decided to treat the whole bag, which needed a deep clean. I soaked the ink stained area with Amodex, put it in a zippered pillowcase and threw it in the washer. I couldn’t find my Dawn, so I used an All free and clear pod. Washed it on delicate with pre- soak in warm water.
The ink came out. It left a slightly lighter spot, which I think is from me rubbing at the area before washing. I shaped it, gave the leather a coat of leather CPR, let it dry. The color was still a bit uneven, so I followed up with Leather Honey to try to darken it. Not sure what I’ll do next, I don’t want to over condition it.

Wow! She looks terrific! Can I ask what you are using to condition the suede?

Wow looks good! Maybe it wasn't ink?

Beautiful bag, nice work!

It looked like ink stains, but I can’t be sure. Now I need another ink blotched bag to experiment on! I couldn’t lift anything when I tried cleaning it by hand, but saturating the spot with Amodex and washing it in the machine did an amazing job. I wouldn’t normally have used All detergent on a bag, but I’m recovering from ankle surgery and didn’t want to go back up the stairs! I don’t know whether using this harsh detergent also helped.
