I stopped by my local Coach store and chatted with a very friendly SA, who showed me the leather treatment they use as a final coat in their 7-step restoration process. He said they use it for reaching perfection in appearance of restored purses and sealing in moisture. I took a picture of the jar and tried finding some info about it online, but wasn't very successful. Since its made in Japan, looks like Asian customers are more familiar with it. The only info I found was that it only contains natural ingredients - jojoba and other waxes, and doesn't contain silicone. It looks like a yellowish-clear mix of jelly and caviar-like grains; the name of the site on the jar is www.columbus.co.jp. Couldn't find anything about it here on TPF... Is someone familiar with it?

Interesting! You can buy it online for $16 USD at the site below and they will ship to the US, but it would cost $24 USD to ship it to my home in Illinois.

Thanks for the interesting information. I Googled and found it on the Japanese site, Rakuten. The product description (translated from Japanese by Google Translate) provides a couple of additional clues as to the ingredients:

It is a leather cream exclusively for shiny leather which moisturizes leather and gives luster!

· Give softness and moisture.
· Maintain natural gloss.
· Protect leather with waterproof effect.
· Can be used for any color.

how to use
· Take a small amount of cream on a special sponge, please apply spreadly [spread evenly?] without leaving streaks on leather.

Comments: I was surprised and ecstatic to get this bag! I saw it on ebay today but I had to go out this afternoon so I couldn't watch the auction. I just picked a number out of the air and entered a max bid and I didn't have much hope because there were 36 watchers! When I got home tonight I was amazed to see that I had won it for only $66 (including dustbag!)

It looks genuine to me but I haven't paid yet and I been fooled before - so I would appreciate your expert opinion(s), thank you.

Also, do you happen to know how much it originally cost back in 1995? I am just curious. Thanks again!

Genuine, and at an amazing price too! Congratulations  It listed for $398 in 1995 and 1996.

Nice that it comes with the dustbag!

I was watching and thought it would go for much higher too! Glad it went to you! Congrats!

The catalog is from late 1996 and Forest was a 1995 color.

Yesterday I scored a Forest Green Madison Drake bag 4420 (Italy 1995) with dustbag for $66 on ebay and while I am waiting for it to arrive I am thinking ahead to replacing the hangtag. The auction pictures don't show a hangtag but I'm not complaining because I am getting a great bag at a great price, but that may be a difficult hangtag to replace. The bag is made of dark green caviar leather and the hardware is a brushed gold color - not shiny gold.

Maybe I should write to the vendor and ask if he/she has the hangtag, but it is unlikely or it would have appeared in the photos.

Any ideas or suggestions for finding a suitable hangtag replacement? Do you think that there is any chance that Coach would still have one available? Probably not, thanks!

Probably works similar to Skidmore's, although that is based on beeswax rather than jojoba.

I have slightly sad story to share, I was at the Goodwill store yesterday (I didn't buy anything but I pointed out a fake Coach bag to the manager!) but as I was going through the bags I came across a (non-Coach) canvas backpack that looked nice, and new, and still had the tag attached.

It was nothing special but a nice bag for a child IMO, but as I was looking through it I found a handwritten note attached giving the bag to a boy from his loving grandparents. I understand that people don't always use the gifts that they receive - and maybe he already had a different backpack that he liked a lot. I just wish that they had taken off the note before donating the bag, it just seemed careless and unfeeling, but it was probably just an oversight.

Maybe I feel this way because I never knew any of my Grandparents, they all died before I was born or when I was a baby. I always envied kids with doting, loving Grandparents. Anyway, I hope the bag goes to another boy that will use and appreciate it!

Who says that bags don't have stories to tell?!

The wonderful @Hyacinth suggested this thread for advice on cleaning a little bag I found...any ideas on cleaning pebbled leather?View attachment 4185343
Ok...its had two dunkings and still not really any cleaner...will post pics when its dry....
Is it sacrilege to dye a bag like this...Im not a pink person at all and I dont onsell bags...this would stay with me if it was successfully dyed.

I don't know if you want to invest in more cleaning products, but I have successfully used Leather Therapy Laundry Solution and Leather Therapy Laundry Rinse & Dressing to wash and condition leather bags in the washing machine. I tie the bag inside a pillowcase (or put it in a large lingerie bag) and run it through the washer.

Yes I might have to give that a try...will have to order cleaners online as no-one in my town has any leather cleaners instock...I need to as Im all out of conditioners too....
I had heard that you could put in the washing machine...do you do a cold wash or warm?...and I take it no spin cycle.

I follow the directions on the bottle - I think a warm gentle cycle - but I usually let it go through a spin cycle unless it is something very delicate.

Its just a matter of finding these products in New Zealand...can find the Rinse and Dressing but not the laundry solution ..
Is the Therapy Wash ok...but not in a washing machine.

Duh!....found it...just under something else.

You might just try washing it with a mild laundry soap like Woolite, instead of spending a lot of money importing laundry products.
