Hi, Im a newbie here and Ive been reading up on so many great instructions and suggestions from the amazing people on this forum. I recently bought a Coach Willis in British Tan from ebay. It had a streak of white paint on the front and a dab of white paint on one of the edges. It was at a great price and I have been wanting this bag for awhile. So I gave my bag a wash and while in the soak I used a small toothbrush to brush away allot of the paint, but it still showed up, however much less, when I was drying the bag. After 48 hours or so, I used leather restorer oil and this happened. ( see picture). Does anyone have a suggestion? Is my bag salvageable? I would appreciate your help so much! Im so disappointed!

Did you just apply the oil? If yes, let it sit for a day or so, those dark spots will not be there. Here are pictures of my bag just after I applied the conditioner and the end result.

Have you tried to buff that off?

Good morning all,
I have a general question for Blackrocks users. How many applications can you get away with before a bag becomes over- saturated? I'm talking about the rehab stage, not as general maintenance. I have some bags with heavy scuffing, and I'm wondering how far I can go with the Blackrocks before I start thinking about trying acrylic.

Thanks!

I don’t think Blackrocks is what you need. I find it tends to get really sticky/gummy if you apply too much. IMO, think of Blackrocks as just the “top coat”.
Have you tried anything else?

I agree, it's better to use only one (or at most two) light coats of Blackrock.

Instead, I would first use more coats of Leather CPR, letting it soak in and buffing between each coat.

Other might have suggestions for something else to try, for example Leather Therapy. I've never tried it so I'm not sure how it would work on heavy scuffing.

I 'd be cautious about using acrylic to cover heavy scuffing. It's OK for small spots, but if it's used over larger areas it can change the texture and finish of the leather. Having recently bought two bags on eBay that had been painted with some kind of acrylic refinisher, I am not a fan of it.

I think I'll live with it for awhile, and see if I wear the bag enough to start the rehab process again. I conditioned with Chamberlains Leather Milk, and while the bag was in good shape to start with, I feel the Chamberlain's is not very emolient and may have left a bit of chalkiness. I also forgot to buff! ( It's a dark brown Ergo)

Ok soooo, I found a willis at the flea market, i paid $30(which i think was way to much) and when I got home I realized that I maybe should have left it where it was. It had red green and gold flowers painted all over it, but I bought it home anyway. Also found out its navy, instead of the black I originally thought. I got the marker, paint, whatever the hell it was sort of off with acetone (which wasn't a great idea). I'm soaking it now, I may have ruined it. Why would you make an art project out of a beautiful bag! Ok I'm done ranting now, so anyone have any pointers for this one lol

It might recover after a bath. You may need more conditioner than usual is all. Let's see it.

Thank you for responding. The area did lighten. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the paint flecks without altering the color? I washed the bag and scrubbed it with a toothbrush. However, the streak is still there. I hope I can salvage this bag
