View attachment 4086518 Got this beauty, and in the first 30 minutes of my ownership put two stains on it. The small one is oil, but the one near the buckle strap is pure water. A drop dried out, but left a stain.

Question: had anyone try dunking a red bag from early 1970s? I am hoping it’ll help with the stains and with the shape too (the bag is totally flattened). On the other hand, I really don’t want to make it worse. And does it mean I should avoid rain with this one?
Update: the bag survived the dunking, and it wasn’t even bleeding that much, I expected worse. My first two stains cleaned up nicely, but I managed to put on another one in the process, and that one is definitely not going away (dropped some Leather Therapy on the inside and it seeped through; this bag is cursed for me). But I love it anyway.

Looks lovely! I've dunked a few red/orange 70s bags and haven't found them to bleed a lot either. The color I always find bleeds a little is that shade of light tan that is quite yellowish. The water always goes yellow from that. I'm working on one of those today.

My biggest surprise with this one was the hardware. The tongue had what looked like a huge rough spot, I decided to deal with it after I was it. Guess what, that spot turned out to be some protective layer, like a very thin plastic, that peeled off in the water.

This NYC courier has been previously authenticated by Hyacinth. I’ve since given it a dunk and conditioning. The color is what I’m wondering about. Way back when when I bought it, the seller thought it was black.. I was pleasantly surprised that it is actually a deep blue, but not the usual navy. Sometimes it looks blue, sometimes green. It’s hard to show in pics, but the color really shows in the lighter areas of piping and the suede.E6741986-A5A7-4DA5-AD77-434E696E09CC.jpeg Do you think it’s blue or green?

Mine is the same as that. I do think it's black. Actually I have quite a few "black" bags that I wonder about similarly.

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get better pictures. It’s definitely some shade of blue or green. I’ve been told that if the color of a bag is in doubt, check the suede, which won’t be subject to the fading and soil as the exterior leather. The suede lining is dark green/ blue, def not black or navy.

The hardware looks beautiful now!

Interesting! Funny thing is I have a few blackish bags that look grey on their inside suede, but navyish or blue-black outside. I can't settle on whether they are navy or black or gray depending on the light. I don't think I have any with the greenish tinge you're describing though.

I often mistake a faded black bag for green. Like this one: the seller describes it as black but I thought it was green! inCollage_20180616_105317722.jpeg

I think it IS green. But I don't own the bag. I need another bag like a hole in my head. Lol! More pics here: NMA

Look what I found on Mercari! Coach Vintage Bag posted by dmond009 https://item.mercari.com/gl/m10972907166/

Speaking of green, I saw an absolutely mint condition forest green city bag at GW yesterday for $35. I also need that like a hole in the head. So I actually managed to walk away without it. So sometimes GW boutique high pricing is actually good for me. If it had been $25 I probably would've bought it!

Congrats! The bag looks good. I actually have a Courier bag in Navy. I still need to rehab it.

Looks great. I have this bag in black, but red would be awesome.
