Searched this thread for anything about white Legacy bags and couldn't find anything, so here's my question.

Some of you "rehabilatators" have work magic on Coach bags, and I thought maybe someone could give me some magic info.

I bought a white Ali a couple of years ago, and I suspected the bottom panel on the back of the bag had been painted with shoe polish. I didn't suspect it at first, and didn't ask the seller for my money back because I really liked the purse. The white is my favorite shade of Legacy.

So after reading tpf info about dying bags, I bought some Tarrago Color Dye in shade #53. I could tell from the paint chip on the box it wasn't an exact match, but figured it would be close enough.

Well...I was wrong and the dye color had a strong greenish cast to it and it's quite noticeable, but at least it's the bottom side of the back of the bag, so the purse, when worn, is against your body.

After a few days, I noticed the dye (it's more of a paint, really) started to peel. It's only a tiny spot and hasn't spread any bigger.

So my question is...has anyone been successful in finding or mixing a shade of white dye that matches Legacy white?

Thanks in advance!!

Here are some pics of the corner and dyed panel to give you a better idea of what I've described:

Back of bag with dyed bottom panel.

Also, I don't want to dye the entire bag this color. I like the original color and would like to keep it white.

Again, thanks for any input!!

I haven't rehabbed a white leather bag and I haven't tried to dye a bag by myself. I have used small bottles of acrylic paints from hobby stores to do touch ups - with mixed success. But you can mix the paints to get a match.

Bebepurse has successfully rehabbed white and cream glove-tanned leather bags, see link below.

Considering I only paid $1 for this twill and leather tote, and as it wasn't usable due to manufacturing glue defects (yuck) I figured it might be a candidate for some acrylic. Here's what I learned...Because it's nylon twill, the acrylic did not soak in. Or maybe I was just a little heavy handed. I've already noticed some cracking and peeling on the side seams. But, despite the wrinkles, I have a bag that I can use. And if I need to touch up, I still have paint!

There are a couple of stains on the leather...any advice?

Check out the before and afters. All comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Rehabbers rock!

I have a few questions for you ladies that do wonders with these bags. I started a thread on this back in december but I have not done anything with this bag, in fear that I might make it worse. I have a grey chelsea bag, I believe it is crinkled patient leather. I had colone spill on the inside and towards the bottom of the bag it took the color out, it is no longer grey it is white in spots. Being that the bag is grey its not noticable to other people but I know its there. Somebody said to try and die it with rid, do you have any suggestions? Should I just leave it alone and with age maybe it will blend in? I'm just affraid of making it worse then it is.Also I got a grease stain on a leather bag and I can't get it to come out. According to coach you can't get this out with the leather cleaner, they say just to leave it and it will fade as the leather burnishes. I did try Dawn dish soap and that did not work. Do you ladies have any suggestions? I appreciate it.

What do you guys think of this bag as a potential rehab project? Is $60 a fair price?

Thanks!

The average selling price for that bag in the past 90 days has been $36.50 so I guess the cost is relative to what you feel its worth. I'd probably not pay more than $40 just because it usually sells a bit cheaper than $60. That being said, I think it seems to already be in great basic shape and would clean up and condition very nicely. So, I guess, if you love it, go for it!! :D

I think that's awesome! Painting is one area I feel very intimidated by so I love that you made an unusuable bag usable again!!

Wow, she looks a lot better! She doesn't look like a dollar bag now!

I have found that multiple, light applications of paint work best. Did you try washing the bag first? That might have helped the stains on the leather. Nice job!

I have heard of rubbing cornstarch on the spot to absorb the grease, but I haven't tried it. Can you post pics of the lining problem with your Chelsea?
