I don't know, sateen seems pretty delicate but I can't say because I've never tried to rehab a sateen bag. Maybe try hand-washing first? In the sink with warm water and Woolite, perhaps? Good luck!

Maybe a seamstress or a cobbler could repair the splits? If the splits aren't too bad, you could try using a tiny nail scissors to trim any obvious frayed threads. Then apply Fray Check to the edges to prevent further fraying. And then perhaps use a small amount of Fabric Glue (apply with a sturdy toothpick) to glue the splits down and secure them.

You can find Fray Check and Fabric Glue at Joann's or other fabric or hobby store. But I have never tried anything like this, it's just my idea of what I would probably attempt if I was rehabbing her.

Fray Check usually dries colorless but I have only used fabric glue on leather, not sateen. It is always a good idea to pick an obscure area of the bag and spot-test any products before using them in visible areas.

Pretty bag, I think it may be a "Katy tote" and I would love to have that namesake bag!

Thanks! Luckily i meant spots not splits LOL..i will never master typing on a iphone!

Spots are much better than splits! I've used the Coach Jacquard Fabric Cleaner on sateen bags and it did a nice nice job removing spots. I guess it depends on what caused the spot though!

You can get it at the boutique and I think it is about $10 a bottle. It's a large bottle and you don't use much so you will have it handy for a long time.

I have another rehab question. I found a multi-colored, scribble C scarf at the Savers for $4.50 and BeenBurned has authenticated it. It is 100% silk and says "Dry Clean Only". I am fine with taking it to the cleaners but it does have a few small marks and spots - not bad and they really don't show up much within the scribble pattern. Should I try to wash the scarf or spot-clean the blemishes or just let the dry cleaners work on it? If you think I should try and clean it, what should I use? You can see pics of the scarf, including a close-up of one of the marks, at the think below. Thanks!

I have quite a few silk items, and I always hand wash them in tepid water using a castile soap ( like dr. bronners). Just a few drops, in the water before I add the garment. Swish a few times, and let it soak for like 5 minutes, then drain the water and repeat without soap a couple times to rinse it. Then I let out the water and sorta smush the garment into the side of the sink, and lift it onto a bath towel and then roll it up and set aside for like 10 minutes. Iron silk inside out using a pressing cloth while the item is still a little damp, or let it dry and steam it.

If there is ink you could try using a little hand sanitizer on a tissue and blot before washing.

I've also been known to throw leather in the washer and spray stain remover on cashmere so bear that in mind:smile1:

Thanks! I have washed leather in the washer too!

Neko, the bag looks awesome!. I can't believe that's the same bag from a few weeks ago. I know the stain on the bottom bothers you, but I think when you put stuff in your bag, and she fills out some you won't even notice. The bags older than 10 yrs isn't it? I was thinking 1970's, just remarkable. I look forward to your next project.

You're right, you can't see it when full. I am a little anal though and so I'll carry it for some time but ultimately I am thinking navy or chocolate brown for her, but we'll see, I love it the way it is now...

Neko, do you just paint the dye on and let it dry? Also, how did you know how to mix the dye the color you wanted for the bag?
Yes, the paint comes with a small wool dauber, if you are touching up small areas this would be ideal. Since I was doing the entire bag, I used the sponge type brush that I used for my legacy. The dye is like water though so that is why I think I'd dunk or spray next time. To answer your question, the method depends on how much you have to do and whether the purse is lined or not. When looking at Flickr - just the photos and not slideshow, I document the process. Let me know if that helps!
