Except for briefcases, this is the biggest purse in my collection...an early 90’s Coach Leatherware Monterey Hobo #4027 from the Lightweights line. Came with a double-sided Coach hangtag, not original, I think. Found her at Goodwill for $14.99. Before pics are here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-818914-206.html#post25029283

With only a little surface wear right at the top of one side, this was an easy rehab. Bath, stuff, Leather CPR 2X. I touched up the wear with black acrylic and clear gloss, finished with Blackrocks 2X, touched up the brass with Tarni-shield, buffed and I’m done! The leather has a beautiful deep glow, like a good old Coach should...she certainly doesn’t look her age!

Here's my first one!

I bought this yellow card case recently. It had black prints? I guess.. on the front and back. I bought it anyways because it was the last (and I LOVE yellow).

The SA tried to "help" me get it cleaned up, but barely did so. I say help in quotes because she cleaned it for 30s before telling me she can't do anything. She couldn't get it off with the Coach cleaner :(

Anyways, I love this card holder! They did get another shipment but the black dirt/oil print was worst than mine!

TIA :)

Yes, my purple one (which I bought back in december) also needs rehab! hehe.. but one at a time *calms down*
BTW, I'm obsessed with card holders! They are soooo practical!

Does anyone know how I would rehab the yellow card case..?

I JUST LOVE THIS BAG! My first Italian Coach is a 1994 Madison Copley #4414 in Beechnut. The before pics are here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-818914-140.html#post24925739

My jaw just dropped when I found her at Goodwill for only $7.50! There was some wear on her bottom edges and where the top handle joins the flap, but I figured I could deal with it...otherwise she was in spectacular condition.

As always, I used a dry toothbrush on the inside, then gave her a sudsy bath in Dawn. There were a few white spots on the outside that disappeared with a little gentle toothbrushing. Stuffed her to dry, and conditioned with Leather CPR while she was still a little damp.

Then I made a mixture of brown, black and just a dot of red acrylic to touch up the wear on the bottom edges of the bag and the edges of the strap. While at Jo-Ann’s buying paint, I discovered my new favorite rehab product: gloss enamel. After the touch-ups were completely dry, I re-painted with the gloss enamel and the fixes look good as new! Check out the detail photo of the strap edges.

I finished with Blackrocks, buffed with a horse hair blend brush and a microfiber cloth. Also my first adventure with pebbled leather, this rehab was a great success for me!
omg I love these and your awesome prices just KILL ME !!! :faint: this turned out beautifully!

Yesterday I picked up a black 96 Willis bag in great shape just needs bathed and shined. I posted it in the authenticate forum before I purchased it because even though everything about it was spot on for authentic, it had one issue that worried me. The wooden dowel is not covered in leather. Hyacinth said it was fine but have you ever seen a Willis with this issue? How in the world would the leather have ever come off. Is this something coach would fix/re-do if I had it sent in? I can see that this probably wouldn't be a hard fix. If you unscrew all the handle hardware and take them out since they actually go through the wood, the dowel would slide right out and could be covered and reinserted. Just wondered if anyone had any experience with this issue before.
YEP, I've had a few bags lose their leather tip. Sometimes it's a fake bag, but I know at least 2 of mine were ok but they wear off when the corner of the dowel rubs against the leather and causes it to wear thin and finally pop off

i want to give a big thank you to who ever it was who posted about wrapping brass in stretch wrap with the cleaner. I've been doing this ever since and it works great! I still have to do some scrubbing on it with a toothbrush but the time has been cut down to almost nothing. Plus, i started using steel wool on the stubborn areas.

Clean brass in a tenth of the time.

Wish i could remember who it was but who ever you are, thanks! :yahoo:

Beautiful! I seem to have more trouble with Lightweights. The dye on these doesn't seem to be as colorfast as on most of my others and I haven't been able to achieve a natural look with paint. Thank you for your gloss tip. I used it on a Dakota after painting a few stains and it looks perfect!

Thanks! It's been just CRAZY at my local Goodwills this summer...since the 4th of July, I've
found TWELVE bags and 1 wristlet...all under $15!!! The color range is also amazing - red, green (3 different shades!), bone, navy and black! Next up, authenticated yesterday is a BLUE Paris Bag, also Lightweight (still drying) for $9.99 (http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-818914-236.html#post25100621)! YIKES - keep 'em comin'!!!

Thanks! The black Monterey didn't lose color in the bath hardly at all. The blue Paris Bag you authenticated yesterday, was another story...lots of almost purple bath water! She's drying now...beautiful blue. Yeah, the gloss stuff is magical and worked like a charm on the Monterey.

I have two blue lightweights - one is almost gray from fading. The other, a the soft satchel, is two tone - the trim is almost black and the body is a soft faded blue. I'm thinking of keeping it two tone. I'll have to touch up the trim because the edges are scuffed. I would love to be able to enhance the soft blue but I don't think it would look natural. I might try a RIT bath if I can find the right color. I'd love to see what color your Paris bag ends up.

YOU GOT A PARIS!!!!!! they are HARD TO FIND!!! (hard to identify online is probably more like it since photos don't do them justice) did you get the small one or the larger size?? I love mine. I've got 3 now LOL. but an extra navy one which I'll eventually sell and'/or trade. I can't believe all the great stuff you've found so cheaply. I've gotten great stuff this summer too...but I paid A WHOLE LOT MORE LOL.
EDIT: I see you got the large one once I checked your other link !!! congrats!!

What is the "gloss stuff" you speak of?.. And.... Rit?? How does that turn out? I love the idea of just letting it soak and.. Done! Fill me in

I used Rit dye once on a bag just to brighten the color. I don't think it can be used to dye a bag, cover stains, or change the color. It would be like painting it with watercolors - just a subtle change. The only reason I'm considering the Rit dye on my blue bag is that I have a fabric bag I'm planning on dyeing and I can use the same mixture for both.

The gloss I have is something I bought a long time ago for some craft project. It is Liquitex Acrylic Gloss Medium and Varnish. There is probably something similar next to the craft paints in the store.

It's still a bit too soon to describe the blue my Paris bag will be...I start conditioning with Leather CPR yesterday while she was still a little damp, so she's darker than I know she'll end up. Bluer than navy for sure.

And speaking of two-tone...yesterday I started working on my daypack...you authenticated it here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-818914-123.html#post24892105. She turned completely black in the bath (lots of black in the water), yet is drying two-tone again. Don't know what's up with this! The surface of the leather isn't worn off, just a color difference. We'll see what happens with Leather CPR and Blackrocks. If she stays two-tone it's fine with me...pretty cool actually :)

Amazing, huh? I'm thinking someone's Granny left a wonderful collection of well-cared-for bags to someone who didn't know what they were...too many good old bags too close together to be random donations. I had never seen one before, but trusted my instincts, especially the older Leatherware creed, and couldn't be happier. I'd love to see yours! She's a lot bigger than bags I usually carry, but I'll definitely be wearing this one, just as soon as she's finished.
