I bathed her in February and then began conditioning, and conditioning, and conditioning. I put pretty much everything in my arsenal on her, emu oil, Leather Therapy oil, Obenauf's oil, Leather honey, Leather CPR....I think I got up to 20 applications, honestly I lost count. Each time I would condition, and the leather would soften, more dirt and grime would fall out :(

Finally, she seemed soft enough to start in with glue and I started trying to close up all openings as much as possible

I have a library of pictures of this, so I am trying to pick ones that represent the process. At this point I began using Leather Filler to fill in. I tried mixing it with Leather Refinisher in Nightfall brown, but that didn't work well. What ended up working best was lightly painting on a very thin coat of Leather filler and blotting it with my finger to create texture. I did this for about a month. At the end I mixed Leather CPR, Leather filler and the Nightfall brown Leather refinisher, painted this on thinly and blotted with my finger.

I could probably work on this bag forever trying to get it right, but I'm calling it for now

I love her and will wear her proudly!
GORGEOUS, love the color, too. and thank you for going thru the rehab step by step. A few ?'s when u say u conditioned maybe 20 times..did u wait a day or more in between each one? Where do u buy leather filler and the name? I have a Fletcher and a Gucci that I need to fill in with leather filler and I've got to learn how to do it. Thanks!!

I waited at least 24 hours between conditioner applications, which is why I have been working on this bag since February. February and March were conditioning and April until now was glue, leather filler, etc... I bought Leather Master's Leather filler http://www.leatherworldtech.com/Products/Leather-Master-Leather-Filler---60ml__LMLF60.aspx. I'm happy with it. The key is very light, think applications.

I love her and will wear her proudly!

She looks amazing. The piping looks wonderful and clearly a labor of love.

I'm guessing on my colors... anyone know the official color names?

I remember when I bought a basic bag new (from Neiman Marcus) back in the 80s it was called Tabac, like tobacco. It was kind of a medium brown, a little darker than British Tan.

Over the years it got faded and dry, but then this past year I bathed and moisturized it, and it's a rich brown again.

Thank you! I'd forgotten about Tabac!:banghead:

Going to try my hand at rehab. I have no idea what is/isn't possible with some of the lighter leathers. I don't want to purchase a lost cause. Could a bag this dirty be decently cleaned up? (not my photo)ImageUploadedByPurseForum1369111412.965386.jpg

Bunnymassue, I have been a member of TPF for several years. My login stopped working last winter - it was millgirl70 but if you look into the system you will see that I have been a member for some time and have posted a number of comments. I really don't think that I should have to start back at square one. I am upset that I have to go back to the beginning on this forum.

Porter4, Congrats on an AMAZING job. Truly a labor of love, no one would have guessed. She is beautiful now.

I'm not sure where to post this -- I hope this is the right thread. I purchased this little Gracie 4413 from the bay, on examining I found something
unusual on both sides of the flap. I'm not sure what it is -- I'm hoping to get some help from experts here. Can this be mold? I purchased this as a best offer, if this is mold - can I get rid of it? How do I take this up with the seller? TIA.
