Thanks. What would you use on this so the embossing can still be read? I don't want to lose the patina.

I would just bathe it in lukewarm water with Dawn or something similar, working on the stains. Rinse really good, stuff with towels to dry. Then condition with leather CPR and Blackrocks. You shouldn't lose any patina.

ETA: I just thought of something. It is possible that the embossing was custom. It might have been done by someone other than Coach after purchase. I can't remember if the previous one I saw was ever identified.

Thanks for the comments. Do you think I should go ahead and rehab it, or leave it as it is? I would use it either way, but in the rough, just with jeans.

Here is a photo of the Eagle embossing.

Your bag has a small black metal tag inside that says Coach? If so, I believe it might be a Federal bag. I have one in black and have been trying to get more information on it. Here was my post: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-763164-249.html#post23254212

I think you can do it now. That is what happened to me with my brittle bag - the leather CPR didn't seem to help very much. I haven't finished mine yet because I had to go away from home. I'm curious to find out if it changed any when I return home.

Hopefully, it did do its magic while you were away. It would be good to know if it has worked when you return home. I think I'll have to wait a few days for the skidmore cream to arrive but it doesn't hurt to let the bag just rest for now. At least it's starting to look good, holes and all.

Last August I bought a set of two NYC Stewardess bags. The more Mocha bag on the left was in great condition, the Espresso colored on the right was awful!!!

I almost popped that Espresso right back up on Ebay, she intimidated me

All four corners on the bottom had wear through, she had wear through on the back right corner by the buckle and the front left corner by the buckle. She was sooooo dirty inside and so dry that once I took the strap off, I didn't want to even move it, afraid it would crack.

I think I will have to do two posts to show this all to you...so see next :)

I bathed her in February and then began conditioning, and conditioning, and conditioning. I put pretty much everything in my arsenal on her, emu oil, Leather Therapy oil, Obenauf's oil, Leather honey, Leather CPR....I think I got up to 20 applications, honestly I lost count. Each time I would condition, and the leather would soften, more dirt and grime would fall out :(

Finally, she seemed soft enough to start in with glue and I started trying to close up all openings as much as possible

I have a library of pictures of this, so I am trying to pick ones that represent the process. At this point I began using Leather Filler to fill in. I tried mixing it with Leather Refinisher in Nightfall brown, but that didn't work well. What ended up working best was lightly painting on a very thin coat of Leather filler and blotting it with my finger to create texture. I did this for about a month. At the end I mixed Leather CPR, Leather filler and the Nightfall brown Leather refinisher, painted this on thinly and blotted with my finger.

I could probably work on this bag forever trying to get it right, but I'm calling it for now

She's amazing! I'm drying a nyc one now that I thought was mahogany but it's turning more bt as it dries. Does anyone have a color list for these old gals?

Porter4, Congrats on an AMAZING job. Truly a labor of love, no one would have guessed. She is beautiful now.

I'm not sure where to post this -- I hope this is the right thread. I purchased this little Gracie 4413 from the bay, on examining I found something
unusual on both sides of the flap. I'm not sure what it is -- I'm hoping to get some help from experts here. Can this be mold? I purchased this as a best offer, if this is mold - can I get rid of it? How do I take this up with the seller? TIA.

Wow, she looks great! I am so impressed you tackled this and stuck it out! I am less afraid to try my black NYC one now. She has one wear through problem and I don't have leather filler so will have to get some.
