Hello everybody! I am washing a very battered Slim Equestrian Bucket. About the only thing it has going for it is that it is....RED......so I dunk it and see all these "patches" of light red - tons of them and they are coming off easily just by rubbing with my fingers....so, am I right in supposing that this is acrylic paint that the previous owner must have used quite generously...

It does look like paint. I'm surprised it is coming off so easily. I painted part of a purse with acrylic paint. I have been trying for ages to get the paint off with little success.

ETA: So... it isn't red anymore?

no, it is red, of course it's wet but it looks like a brick red...so under some of the paint was little black spots but under a lot of it looked like nothing....of course when it dries that might be another story....it was a great lot of fixer uppers for cheap money but it looks like I have my work out out for me!
right after I dunk it, I see this:

2nd picture is a rinse soak after TWO washes with warm/hottish water and dawn (1st wash I added a quick rub on all panels of Soilove)...I was being aggressive because this bag needs help and it cost me 12 dollars so I'm going for it! We will see if it paid off....on top of it is very dry, so I dried it a bit with a towel and rubbed some Leather Tx on it...it is soaking it up...fingers crossed what it looks like in the morning..

I see that our rehab and rescue club has been moved to the new Club House subformum at the top of the main page. That should make it easier to find our favorite thread! :D

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove nail polish from leather? I passed on a cute red Coach at Goodwill because it had glittery nail polish spilled on it. :/

I have used regular nailpolish remover to remove red nail polish from a black willis bag. It helped but it didn't completely eliminate it.

Washing the bag also helped because I could work some of the polish off with my finger while it was soaking in the sink.

Red is a delicate color, what color is the polish? If you really like the bag and can get it at a cheap price, you might want to try it.

Spot test the nail-polish remover in a hidden spot first. If you aren't able to successfully remove it you could try dying it with leather restorer. Good luck!
