So, I have finished my first rehab project and let me introduce Miss Whitney Satchel:

Her main issues were being out of shape and some wear on corners and handles. I gave her nice long baths and massaged 2 rounds with Apple Quard and 2 with Blackrock, touched up with gloss acrylic paint and puffed. I am quite pleased with my first attempt. Maybe I could reshaped her even better. It was missing the hang tag and all tough I ordered it already over 3 weeks ago, it hasn't arrived yet :( , so I used one Coach key fob instead and they fit together very well, I think.

This is beautiful!!

HI I'm new to the Coach family but I love my vintage Coach!! I have a question I just bought my Coach Station bag while thrifting and I want to clean it I see alot of you "dunk" your bags in water and use dish soap to clean it but I have been told that dunking it in water and using dish soap is bad for the life of the bag and to use saddle soap and a damp towel so my question is, is it okay to put them in water and dish soap or should I use saddle soap??DSC_9425

You will probably hear other opinions other places but you might be interested to know that Coach bags used to come with tips on how to clean your Coach bag. Part of it states "An occasional scrubbing with a mild soap, such as Ivory or pure Castile, is perhaps the best way to refurbish a Coach bag...Using a terrycloth rag or a natural sponge, work up a good, thick lather. Scrub one panel at a time, making sure to go over the entire bag uniformly. Rinse suds off thoroughly under running water. Spend a few minutes pulling and stretching the bag until it regains its original shape. Then stuff with newspaper and allow several hours to dry."

More often than not, I have heard that saddle soap ISN'T good for handbags. The leather for saddles is not quite the same finish as handbags are. I've washed bags in woolite, or dawn if there's a grease spot or a tough problem, Now though, for bags that have no issues but just need a re-shaping, I generally pour some Lexol Leather cleaner in the bath water (it's pretty affordable and gentle) and for tougher dirtier bags I use Leather Therapy Wash. I'll try to find a link for you. It's not cheap, a little goes a long way, but it makes me feel most comfortable now when washing a bag that I really care about and lessens my worries about longterm effects. http://www.smartpakequine.com/leath...1&source=pla&gclid=CIrQ3NiJtbYCFcc-MgodBwsAlA

Very cool!

Welcome back...I wondered where you had gone! Maybe you could post a link to your blog for our newer members...I remember you had worked very hard to put together a wonderful list of style names, numbers and photos, right? A great resource for all of us!

Here is a link to the blog... to my surprise it has been visited 50,000 times since I created it, lol! I guess it really is being used as a resource! If anyone has photos or numbers I am missing on the list, please let me know!

When you're ready for more photos for your style number page, PM me! I can send links to lots of bags I've had authenticated over the last year. And it was great fun to see the ones you've already posted. Great job...terrific resource...THANKS!

Hi! This is my first attempt at rescuing an old Coach bag.

I found this bag yesterday at a little vintage shop in Queens, and was super excited to have it authenticated by Hyacinth as a genuine Pocket Bag from sometime between 1989-1991. :)

I dunked it yesterday in warm water and a bit of Dawn dish soap and left it for about 45 minutes. I then rinsed it, stuffed it with towels, and let it dry for about 24 hours. Once it was *almost* dry, I applied Frye Weatherproof Dressing, which is what I use on my leather boots. I let it absorb the dressing for a few hours, and then buffed the excess with a clean, dry cloth.

The flap of the bag is much brighter than the bottom (which is a gorgeous cherry red color). The flap looks like it was faded from the sun.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the color of the flap of the bag to match the rest of it? Did I do something wrong? :(

Thanks in advance!
