Hello everyone! I bought a Rambler in great condition EXCEPT some "dents", for lack of a better word in the inside flap (but undortunately you can see part of them, even when the outside flap is down if that makes sense). Here are some pictures. They feel slightly hard but not dirty or sticky or anything - would the hardness be the leather stretching and drying up over time, do you think? I am thinking I will give a warm (or hot?) sudsy bath and kind of manipulate the dents with my fingers to soften them up during the bath and then condition the heck out of it? Anyone think that'll work? The bag is beautiful except for the dents and I will definitely still use it because they are not extremely noticeable but.....

As always, thank you!!

In my experience, there are dents and then there are DENTS! Check out the links to 2 of my dent rehabs.

You’re probably going to have a better result because it's a black bag. I think the key is warmer than usual bath water, lots of conditioner and lots of massage. Gee that sounds good for me, too :) Hope this info is helpful. Good Luck...keep us posted.

Hi everyone! I wanted to show off my NYC Basic bags......the lighting isn't the best to highlight the rich colors but they all came out just beautiful. They all have that heavy Talon Zipper and thick leather...just gorgeous. the Burgundy did not come with a strap so I was going to look for one but as luck would have it, I bought a Burgundy City bag that I can borrow the strap from - yay! I washed with Dawn, dried for 24 hours, applied Leather CPR x2 and then a coat or 2 of BlackRocks and used Brasso on the hardware.

Very, very pretty! Isn't that old leather just amazing?

Thanks Joodlz - nice job on your rehabs...I will try the warmer water and massage and it sounds like using the bag and time may help as well.

OKay, here are a few pictures of my rehab of a Compartmetn bag (circa 1989-91 according to Hayacinth - Thanks, Hayacinth!)....so, I did the Dawn, warm water, Leather CPR thing over a period of three days....it reshaped nicely but the color (brown with black "swirls" through it) has stayed, most noticably in the front. I finshed up with some Blackrocks but that didn't make a difference. Should I chalk it up to a lovely patiina on my vintage bag and call it a day? ;).....What do you all think?

the bag you bought depending on the size is either a pocket purse or a convertible clutch - from the photo I think it is the pocket purse if it is about 9 inches long and has an outside open pocket and an open pocket under the flap - if if is the pocket purse it also has an open pocket on the back wall under the flap. The convertible clutch does not have the open pocket in the back, but does have an open pocket under the flap and a zipper pocket on the back wall of the bag. Hope this helps. The city bag does not have a removable strap.

Thanks Millgirl for the info = this can get confusing for us newbies....the bag is 10.5 L x 7.5 H and no outside pocket in back but does have a pocket under flap s must be convertible clutch - thank you! :smile1:

love, love it - so heavy and thick and so rich looking - the pictures didn't capture that - but the burgundy is this lovely, deep, red- black...

I know. I have both a used one and a never used one. The one that has never been used is really dark. It is hard to believe that the used one used to be that color.

As always, thanks!!

I've had rehabs like that and when I am all done and I still don't feel comfortable carrying the bag, I think the only thing left to do is buy a jar of dye and give that a try, see link below. Before I dye it I rewash the bag in warm water and try to remove all the conditioner and black rocks.

Get a sample jar; pour a small amount in a pill bottle cap; thin out with water; apply with sponge brush. The key is thin, thin layers. The stains and discolorations will blend in. It's my go to method to when all else fails.
