And here is the Wood n Stuff Refinisher touch up-I have an '02 XL Slim duffle that is in good shape but the black is just a little faded. The problem is, it's really hard to capture black but I'll try to show what I did. I recently had tried BlackRock on it but it still looked kinda bleh. I did one side at a time and took these pix when I had only done the first side-so here is the side I hadn't done yet:

And here is the other side, after one coat. I'll probably only do one coat on this, it looks fine as is:

and since you really can't tell, here is a top view that maybe shows it a little better, below the zipper has been refinished, above it not:

It just perked up the purse. I didn't even try that hard to get every spot, and I didn't do the strap at all. It still feels soft and smooshy. Again, I'll let y'all know if I experience any color loss.

And here is one of the reasons I've been experimenting with this stuff so much, my leather "hoodie":

It looks really rough and gross in this picture, but it actually still is really cute and soft and vintage-y. I have had it several years, and ordered it from a catalog. It was intentionally aged when I bought it, but you can see my "bag" side is a lot more faded than the left side. I have put a TON of "miles" on this jacket, it is soft, great for layering, etc. I would buy another if I could find one but they are no longer available. If the leather refinisher holds up on the bags, I might refresh this baby. It is cool as is, but I wouldn't mind so much if it was a little less worn.

You are inspiring me! I've bought several shades and have only used it once with mixed success; I will have to try again!

Just a word of caution regarding using wood-n-stuff ; if you put it on too thick the resulting finish will look plasticky and chip after extended use. Suggest thinning it out with water and using a foam brush painting thin layers until you get the desired effect. Much of the leather grain will be lost if you use it straight from the bottle. Also, it will come out too shiny if you don't water it down. I refinished an old leather tote bag and it has chipped on the straps. Used the thin layering technique and retouched ink spots on a Frye tote I bought at a yard sale for $3. Removed the ink with alcohol and then nail polish remover and then used the thin layering method and the grain of the leather came out. Looks amazing for an investment of $4.00 (sample bottle British tan $1.99 plus $1.99 shipping; a little goes a long way).

Good, that's the kind of info I'm looking for. So far I'm using thin layers but on that little blue satchel, I used a brush to get in the crevices and it is thicker and I would NOT want the whole bag to have that look.

Other than the blue bag, I've only used it in sections of the bag and what I can't get over is you can't tell where it stops and where it starts, including on the red and british tan.

Again, I don't think it's ethical to use it on a bag you're selling but to perk up a bag for your own use I am glad I tried it. I've been buying the sample bottles too except for the black, I figured I have enough uses for it to get the larger jar.

I love the "perk up" on the bag. I guess I'll be adding this stuff to my rehab arsenal soon, especially for the easy touch ups like black. I do LOVE that jacket. I'm a sucker for vintage-y old leather jackets. I can't wait to see it's "after" picture if you decide to go for it.

Thanks-I love that jacket so much that I'm almost afraid to mess with it, but if I do, I will definitely post pix no matter how it turns out.

Hi guys the lovely DemRam sent me your way.

I have a coach watermelon tote with some issues
1) the kisslock is separating from the the leather.
2) there's some seriously sloppy stitching on the inner handles which the ever helpful Hyacinth feels maybe a bad repair.

Does anyone have experience repairing the kisslock?

I was thinking of selling this bag as I prefer a crossbody, do you guys think selling it "as is" or repairing it would be best?

Your opinions would be so helpful!

Best,
Heather

I would take it to a leather expert (cobbler, shoe repair) and ask for an opinion and a price quote for repair of the stitching and kisslock frame. I have a small Coach Cashin Attachette that had the same problem. The leather and lining had slipped out of the kisslock frame. I took it to the cobbler and he fixed it beautifully and inexpensively, see pics at the link below.:

Here are pics of a mahagony Patricia's Legacy. I had professional repair of a bad rip and some other damage before I rehabbed the bag an it was worth it!

This one looks like gold metallic paint or polish. The 2nd pic is a black scuff mark. The inside photos show ink marks on the lining. The creed patch in the last.
I do have Coach leather cleaner and moisturizer if they will do. Or will it need some different products? Don't think there's any help for the ink unless I can soak the lining in something.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Here's a couple scratches in the first photo.
Some wear in the corners, pic 2. This is the worst one.

Beautiful bag! She looks pretty good and red can be a tricky color to rehab so I wouldn't do too much to her. How is the inside, is the lining clean?

If it were my bag I would use Lexol Cleaner to clean the bag or try surface-washing it with a damp cloth, mild soap and water.

After it dried I would condition with leather cpr or apple or lexol and let it sit for a day, then buff and see how it looks.

If the corners are still faded then I would try black rocks on them to see if they bring back the color.

If that doesn't work I would try to touch up the corners with red acrylic hobby paint - but it is hard to match red shades.

Don't be alarmed if the bag starts to look worse after you begin rehabbing it. I have had that experience with tan and red bags.

After I clean and condition them every little flaw becomes more apparent and the bags looks much worse than it did when I started!

But if you leave it alone - let it sit and give it time - like a week or two! The dark spots are absorbed and will fade and the bag will look nice!

As for the inside of the bag, here is what I would do.

I would vacuum the inside of the bag to make sure it is clean.

I would then pull the lining out as far as possible and use rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth on the ink stains. You probably won't be able to remove them but you may be able to minimize them a little.

After that I would use baby wipes to try and clean up the entire lining and brighten it up. If that doesn't work you can use a mild soap and water and a damp cloth to try and wash the lining. Then let it dry.

These are the things I would probably do if that was my bag but some of the other rehabbers may have additional suggestions. Good luck!
