Thanks for the quick reply - Wow! Your bags are beautiful, what a great job! I tried to post photos but found that I am dumber than I thought, I can't figure it out....

To attach photos to a message on TPF you have to click on "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the message and then click on "Manage Attachments" to upload up to 5 photos per message. The max size of a jpeg photo is 732 kb.

If the pics are too large you may have to resize them to upload on TPF. You can download a free image management system like IRfanView to resize photos.

Or if you have a subscription to a free online image album like Photobucket, you can upload them there and just post the link(s). I struggled when I first tried posting photos on TPF but now it is easy, good luck!

Thanks! Washing it with Dawn dish soap and warm (hot?) water in the sink should remove the oil. Let it soak and rinse well. You may have to wash it more than once. Stuff with towels to shape it while it dries for the first day or two.

Can you post pictures of your bag? I have never used neatsfoot oil but sometimes conditioning with Black Rocks helps to even out coloration.

Below is a link for a dark brown PL that I rehabbed. It had a nasty spot and it was ripped so I took it to the cobbler to professionally repair the damage before I rehabbed it and it came out great.

Another option is to buy a small jar of leather refinish restorer dye and try and cover the spot yourself, see link below, but please post pics here for advice first. Good luck!

Thanks for the help, it really helped - yep, they are too large, I'm going to try fixing them and posting... Lynn

I think I got it! Not the clearest photos but here they are:D

Pretty bag! If it were my bag I would give it a bath, stuff it dry, and condition with a mild conditioner like leather cpr (or apple or lexol) and then treat it with Black Rocks Leather N Rich to even out the color.

If you are in the US you can often find these products at equestrian (horse riding tack shops) or online.

Black Rocks is a bit tricky to work with when you are just starting out. See the links below for more information. Good luck!

Thanks again! I will draw a bath for her tonight and go shopping for cpr and black rocks! We are in rural MO, lots of tack/farm stores around.

I just won a large Carly in Chili red with brass hardware from EBay yesterday. She has some color loss on the corners and a couple small light spots. Inside has a couple ink marks. She's a 10616. Will post pics when I get her.
I would love any thoughts on how to treat the spots and corners.
Love all the "facelifts" done on these beautiful classic bags!! It's amazing the difference TLC makes! Wow!

jealous. I've been eyeing Chili Carlys off and on for a while but haven't had one come my way at a good price. Yes, post photos when you can. color loss usually requires some acrylic touch up. Ink is sometimes best left alone but we'll have to see it.

I saw one in person several years ago at the outlet someone returned. It was gorgeous and I never forgot it. I got this one for 152.00 plus shipping. Considering its a 500 dollar bag, I thought it was a good auction score.
I'm not too worried about the ink marks, but if they can be removed so much the better.

Hi everyone! I've been lurking this thread for awhile, and this is my first post, because I finally found something to rehab for myself!

Recently I found a 1998 Ergo Compartment Bucket (Hyacinth authenticated) at a second hand shop for 25$ (waited for it to come down from 45$) which is a considerable deal in my town, where everyone is a 'hipster' and into 'vintage' things, so there is a huge markup on used items. I'd never found a coach bag at a second hand shop that wasn't outrageously priced here, so when I saw that it had come down to 25$ I was so excited! (Haha, I'm always so jealous of you guys that can find them all over the place for 10$!)

She's in very good condition overall, no worn piping or anything, and she even still has her hangtag! I think my first step is going to be giving her a bath ... I'll see what I've learned from reading all about your rehabs! Any advice anybody has for me, products etc, would be greatly appreciated! I'm really excited for my first rehab, wish me luck! (:

PS - This bag is super duper comfy to wear ... :D

I love ergo bags and this one is beautiful and a good price, congrats! But red bags can be very tricky to rehab. I would start with a bath and conditioning and see how that works. But if you are unable to minimize the major spots you may have to consider dying the bag with something like Leather Restore Refinish.

Keep us updated on your progress and we will try and advise you, good luck!

It looks great!! I have to get some of this stuff. I do love that shade of blue.

I had no idea what color that blue was really going to be from the color chart-It's just "Dark Blue" but I love it. Will see how it holds up. I'm not sure if I'd recommend the color change process. The Navy is close enough that if I missed any spots it's not super obvious, but I put about 3 coats on to make sure I hit everything. I'm afraid it's going to rub off, so I'm only carrying it with jeans. Had to run in to an "event' at work real quick on Saturday and took it out for a test run. It looked pretty cute with my pink kisslock sunglass case peaking out. It is not the same as any of the current Legacy colors but it certainly fits in that family. Will report back on how it holds out, and in a minute will post another touch up I did on another bag.

And here is the Wood n Stuff Refinisher touch up-I have an '02 XL Slim duffle that is in good shape but the black is just a little faded. The problem is, it's really hard to capture black but I'll try to show what I did. I recently had tried BlackRock on it but it still looked kinda bleh. I did one side at a time and took these pix when I had only done the first side-so here is the side I hadn't done yet:

And here is the other side, after one coat. I'll probably only do one coat on this, it looks fine as is:

4BBE9455-CD92-46C3-AEB3-64A72669E012-3205-000001F57AAA5341.jpg

and since you really can't tell, here is a top view that maybe shows it a little better, below the zipper has been refinished, above it not:

It just perked up the purse. I didn't even try that hard to get every spot, and I didn't do the strap at all. It still feels soft and smooshy. Again, I'll let y'all know if I experience any color loss.

And here is one of the reasons I've been experimenting with this stuff so much, my leather "hoodie":

It looks really rough and gross in this picture, but it actually still is really cute and soft and vintage-y. I have had it several years, and ordered it from a catalog. It was intentionally aged when I bought it, but you can see my "bag" side is a lot more faded than the left side. I have put a TON of "miles" on this jacket, it is soft, great for layering, etc. I would buy another if I could find one but they are no longer available. If the leather refinisher holds up on the bags, I might refresh this baby. It is cool as is, but I wouldn't mind so much if it was a little less worn.

I love the "perk up" on the bag. I guess I'll be adding this stuff to my rehab arsenal soon, especially for the easy touch ups like black. I do LOVE that jacket. I'm a sucker for vintage-y old leather jackets. I can't wait to see it's "after" picture if you decide to go for it.
