DANG you did an amazing job! I am so impressed, it is way above my skill level to try and rehab nubuck, and look at what you did! Sorry if I missed an earlier post, how did you do that? It's just amazing, doesn't EVEN look like the same bag. Those nubuck bags are SO pretty!:ps:

Thanks. I noticed that everyone seemed to ignore this comment! :cray: I put the exclamation point so people wouldn't think I was crazy but if I can find the right color leather, I'm going to try it!

I had to go back and look, because I totally missed the comment. That's a great idea, I think - and why not? You are so creative! :ghi5:

She looks great! did you hand wash her or toss her in the washiing machine?
From my Initial Posting:
"My first & only adventure with nubuc turned into a pleasant surprise. For less than $4 + shipping, I took the plunge on a Honey Wheat colored Sonoma Bucket from Italy, Style 4932 with jacquard striped lining. It was dirty, scuffed and had 6 or so ink pen marks. My process
1. sprayed the worse spots with Shout
2. immediately put into a mesh laundry bag & tossed into washer with warm water, a squirt of Dawn + 1 scoop of Oxyclean
3. went thru an extra rinse cycle to make certain all the Dawn suds were gone
4. Stuffed with towels to reshape & hang to dry (drying is so much faster when spun in the washer; but the bag badly need reshaping due to wrinkling from spin cycle)
5. Bag smelled wonderful; but was that "dirty" look remained as well as ink.
6. Used a Suede Eraser & soft bristled brush and believe it or not it came out beautifully. Dirty look is gone; bag lightened slightly with the eraser. The most amazing part is the eraser took off the ink as well.

It is now a great bag; but not necessarily my style. Long story short I am not afraid of nubuc."

I just read something interesting in the secondhand thread I read. One of the girls found a nubuck coat, had some spots, she used Johnson & Murphy Nubuck Cleaning kit. She said it works wonderfully, so something else to add to the rehab arsenal.

Sorry, I just saw this, apologies for my slowness! You know, I think some of the other ladies have done more than I have so it would probably be best to get their ideas, but I've used a sweater-shaver thingie in the past to clean up the edges. That's probably not the best way, though!

Lol, I used my hair clipper on the raw leather on the flap (guard on to make sure it didn't get too close) to make it look even and uniform. That worked great. The wrapped edges around the bag have little grey fuzzies that are too close to the bag to cut. Maybe that is part of the charm of the bag...but I'm pretty fussy about those things...:smile1:

Very Interesting....... because it was in fact a J&M Suede Eraser & Brush that I used to effectively clean the nubuc bag I posted. The washing machine, dawn & oxyclean may have loosed up the grime and made it smell great; but it was the Eraser & Brush that really did the job.

Here's a vote for Johnson & Murphy!

I have used a lighter the clean up the fuzzy edges, without causing any damage to the leather. You hold the flame just close enough to sear the edges off. It only takes a second. I got the idea from looking through a coffee table book of pictures from the Coach factory in NYC. Apparently it's what they used to do to clean up the edges on bags in manufacturing.

Oh, I hear ya! I can make a bag look perfect, but if there's a spot that doesn't go my way, it makes me

Where did you find yours? I know J & M sell primarily mens shoes, but I don't think there are any stores near me. I will probably search Ebay first.
