I'm also working on a sad little Khaki Signature Fabric & British Tan Demi. I rescued her from a unloved home where she became heavily stained inside and out after the past owner allowed 2 teenagers to abuse her. My daughter is 14, I gave her a Scribble Heritage 3 years ago and it has not one stain. So I'm guessing these teens have not been explained the value of a beautiful bag.

oh wow...I think I have that exact same bag in my rehab pile...Just got her this past week and it too looks a mess!!

Hi ladies! Hyacinth sent me over here to ask if any of you have any experience with a Coach bag that has both brass and silver hardware. The seller has very graciously refunded my money but she would also like to know if the bag "has problems." Thanks for you opinions!

Here is the link so you can see what I mean. The seller said the feet and the grommets are silver. The zippers and buckles are brass.

The strap could be a replacement from another bag, which would be an easy explanation. The feet and buckles being different metals is odd. Are the feet worn, like maybe the brass plating has worn off? Does it look like the feet are original, or maybe replacements? The bag looks exactly like mine, so I dont really doubt it is authentic, (or else we both have fakes!) I am betting some parts of the hardware have been replaced over the years.

Hmmm? The strap replacement would be understandable. Would it be difficult to replace the feet? If they did, would they have been from Coach so they could match up the holes etc?

Another thing Hyacinth said she was concerned about was the "wavy inside zipper." Did you notice that by any chance?

I bought a station bag at Savers a few months ago that has all brass hardware except on the little handle on top, which has what looks like stainless loops. I don't know what to make of it. It's a sort if burgundy BTW.

since I have my dyslexic moments, this might not be an issue but the seller says the creed is O6J-9966 which would mean not a legitimate production month right? does she mean problems with it's condition? or its authenticity? sorry if I'm confused :smile1:

OH WAIT...the seller just wrote it wrong. it's D6J!! ok that is better. I always wonder about the brass on Coach. I seriously have bags with grommets that have turned silver but have a trace of their brass original plating still on them and I just wonder if they got low quality brass from a supplier who maybe is to blame for reducing the brass quality unknown to Coach. It seems to happen a lot and I know some of the bags that I have are real. I hoe someone else has better answers. My two Legacy zips are both supposed to be silver toned so I am no help, sorry

This is confusing. I thought older bags had solid brass? Could they have just been plated and the plating wore off?

The seller is concerned with the two different colors that the bag could have problems. She doesn't want to sell anything questionable. Very honest seller btw!

Hyacinth was concerned about the "wavy" inside zipper. Did you see anything there that would make you think it may have been less quality than it should?

the zipper could stretch out over time, etc. I guess it comes down to someone having an original legacy zip that they KNOW to have been purchased from a store...in this year and plant code, and/or similar circumstances with mixed brass colors. There's no other way to compare a bags authenticity/quality without having another legitimately bought bag with the same issues. THIS frustrates me SO MUCH! I have a box full of gorgeous questionable and/or fake bags!

"Questionable" is the problem. I had a similar issue just the other day with a Stewardess that couldn't be authenticated. Great looking solid heavy brass buckles; but the grommets were silver-toned & the brass plating was off most of the feet. Troubling in itself but the kicker on mine was the placement of the creed. In my case I was hoping to rehab & resell; but cannot take a chance on a "questionable" bag. The leather is beautiful in every way. So......it's at the bottom of the heap. I may one day rehab for myself because the leather is very high quality but know that I can't resell.

It was based on my most recent experience that the grommets on the bag you wanted authenticated stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

It is frustrating to not be able to tell for sure. The part of the zipper that I think Hyacinth was referring to, looked like the seam was off on one area. Almost like it was sewn to "miss" someone's finger! (I sew so I recognize that! :graucho:) I felt bad for the seller but so glad she wanted to know for sure!

I know you saw the grommets right away. I thought it was from the flash or something. I agree though, I'm really too picky and I wouldn't want to carry a bag with mismatched hardware.

Fortunately the seller had this bag as a consignment. She said she was going to give it back to the owner. She was really glad for what info I relayed from here. I've recommended she join TPF because she is honestly concerned that all her items are real. So refreshing compared to "some" unscrupulous sellers I've seen on eBay!

That wavy inside zipper is on the inside pocket. Mine looks like that when it is open. My Legacy zip was made in the same year. All the hardware is brass.

Oh it does? Well that narrows that down then! :-) I just wish there were a simple answer for the multi colored hardware! I am disappointed as I would have gotten the bag at a very good price but I would have been unhappy with the silver "accents" and the brass buckles and never used it or been comfortable to resell it. :-( Hyacinth said the bag looked good everywhere except for those areas in question and that's the problem!

I'm pretty sure that most of the bigger "feet" on the bags aren't solid brass and can wear down to silver. I am basing this on nothing except that I've seen so many that are at least partially wearing down to silver on bags that are authentic. So that in itself probably isn't a big issue, unless it looks like the feet were never brass...which would be hard to tell.

So, just an observation, take it for what it's worth. I don't even own a legacy zip so don't even want to begin to judge that bag.

Mine was made at a different factory, though, so it doesn't prove anything. However, I can't imagine they would mix metals. The only explanation is if the brass plating wore off but that is very doubtful. If that were the case, I would expect to see some signs of brass still there. My fake basic bag had some metal parts that weren't brass. I'm assuming that they used some fake brass that wore off. In that case, though, it didn't look silver - it looked like a very cheap dirty pewter-colored metal.
