I'm pretty sure that most of the bigger "feet" on the bags aren't solid brass and can wear down to silver. I am basing this on nothing except that I've seen so many that are at least partially wearing down to silver on bags that are authentic. So that in itself probably isn't a big issue, unless it looks like the feet were never brass...which would be hard to tell.

So, just an observation, take it for what it's worth. I don't even own a legacy zip so don't even want to begin to judge that bag.

It was really hard to tell from the pictures but the seller said the feet were silver. They looked kind of shiny silver in the picture. Guess this is one of those with too many questions to feel good about the bag. . .sigh. . .

Mine was made at a different factory, though, so it doesn't prove anything. However, I can't imagine they would mix metals. The only explanation is if the brass plating wore off but that is very doubtful. If that were the case, I would expect to see some signs of brass still there. My fake basic bag had some metal parts that weren't brass. I'm assuming that they used some fake brass that wore off. In that case, though, it didn't look silver - it looked like a very cheap dirty pewter-colored metal.

I would think even made in different factories that Coach would have supplied the hardware so all the bags would at least look the same? I couldn't see any sign of brass on the feet on this bag, only silver. The seller has sold other Coach bags so I'm sure when she told me about the feet, she would have mentioned that the plating was just worn off. The black stewardess I'm (still) working on has feet that look kind of shiny on the tips like the brass may be worn down there. This Legacy Zip doesn't look like that at all.

Guess this one may remain a mystery! :thinkin:

Well, after reading all the comments and the help that you guys have provided, here is my 1st project. I tried to picture in different lights and to give a better idea. ITs definatly an improvement but I might give it another round to see how far I can push it, especially when I look at the 1st before, at the bottom front I see some marks still.
Still, not too shabby for my 1st!
I was amazed after the 1st bath just all the dirt that came off of it, amazing!
I saw the old ink stain bleed a little bit, I took out everything I could but oh well! I still like the bag!

Excuse the puppy in the photos, shes such a nosy one, always up my butt follows me around as I work on the purses...

Haha I know right!!! Shes just a year old, shes my companion as I work from home all day. Sometimes if I work on my bags at night, I ask my husband to keep her busy because if we dont, she will find my purses (I have quite a few and I work on a lot at the same time, not all leather tho! fabric)) she will go sit her big butt straight on them, as if, she was gonna get more attention, lol

I already have 2 more to rehab! One if them is missing some hardware (a small one) but I got it for practice.... Look what I got my hands on! I know im gonna love this one (too...)

Back when they made this, almost all Coaches had brass hardware. I doubt they even had any purses that came with silver feet. I don't think they made the same bag two hardware choices. My 1999 Rambler's Legacy has nickel hardware, which is unusual. I don't think I have seen a bag older than that with hardware other than brass. I think they started using plated brass by the time they started using serial numbers. I only have one bag that has solid brass hardware and that is pre-creed. Most of the brass tends to turn funny colors when it corrodes. However, the feet on my Legacy zip are silver on the bottoms only and this bag is in excellent shape otherwise, so it is conceivable that with time, they would turn silver entirely. I washed my slim satchel with TSP and the kisslock turned silver.

I just looked at my legacy zip, and mine has the "wavy" zipper, too. The wavy zipper became more pronounced after I washed the bag. The brass plating is starting to wear away from the feet, but I also see other evidence of wear to the feet, like scratches on the metal. Grommets on the strap are brass, but like I said, straps are very easy to replace. The strap may not even be a Coach strap for all we know; it could be made by another manufacturer after the original strap was lost or damaged, for example.

My bag was not made at the same plant, though, and was made 2 years later than your bag.

All of it is academic, though. If you aren't happy with the bag, then even if everything is authentic Coach, you aren't happy with the bag, and it should go back. It will bug you every time you see the mismatched metals!

Here are some pics of my bag, focusing on the areas up for discussion. This bag *has* been authenticated.

A quick rehab update. A few months ago, I got my hands on a Plaza bag that REEKED of cigarettes. Like, I couldn't have it in the same room with me, because it smelled so strongly of cigarettes, and I don't mind subtle cigarette smell, (it reminds me of my grandma). But this was out of control, and I knew that I would never carry her, nor could I in good conscience sell her to anyone but a chain smoker! I was really wanting to save her, because she was in such good shape and came with her hang tag, original little drawstring bag of paperwork AND registration card!

I tried stuffing her with newspaper. No help.
I tried sitting her in sunshine. No help.
I gave her *5* baths. She'd smell a little better briefly, then "The Creeping Stink" would return. It was like it just oozed out of her.

On the final bath, I dumped in a bunch of Mr. Clean, because I was at the "nothing to lose" point. It helped only a smidge, and dried her out terribly. :/

Finally after weeks of glaring at her, my husband says "Did you try dryer sheets? Put some of those in the pockets, and the smell will go away". I thought he was kind of nuts, and that at best I'd get a bag that smelled like cigarettes and Downy.

To my surprise, the dryer sheets helped A LOT more than anything else I've tried. Between weeks stuffed with dryer sheets and many applications of Leather Therapy, she became usable. She still has a faint smell, but she's at a point where I'd carry her.

The pics are pre-polishing of the brass, but I mostly wanted to show the color difference between the dry leather and the conditioned leather. She was SO dry that by the time I wiped the Leather Therapy across the bag, the beginning would already be dry to the touch! This is what the inside pockets looked like, halfway through conditioning her.

Pretty!!!

If you wanna try another trick, you might have tried it already but I would place the purse in a rubbermaid bin, and inside of it, set a little bowl of vinegar.
Leave it for maybe a day or two and see. Its supposed to do miracles.

Yeah, for real! Hubby is a guitar player, and I guess he's spent enough time in smoke-filled, stinky bars to know how to get that smell out of leather. Maybe I need to involve him more in my purse-rehabbing challenges! lol

I'm a firefighter and this may sound crazy but I mist the inside of my turnouts with a vinegar/ water mix. It cuts strong odors and after it has evaporated leaves no trace.
