This is my MFF Zoe. She needed cleaning, but since she's that pearly-looking leather I was afraid to dunk her, so I just surface cleaned her and used Lexol conditioner on her. Her edges had suffered color loss, and she has a gouge caused by an evil ashtray in a rental car. I used the tips I saw on this thread....here are the results. I used acrylic paint to touch up the spots where she lost color. I'm not sure it's a perfect match, but it seems to look much better. The color was hard to achieve!!

I've been meaning to show before and after pictures of my Devon bag that Hyacinth was so kind to authenticate for me. I really didn't have to do much but touch up the edge of the strap and the bottom corners and polish the hardware. It was kinda flat so the bath and really helped.

Beautiful bag! :-)

I've been wondering. . . since so many of you are rehabbing bags, do you carry the older style or vintage bags most of the time? Or do you carry mostly newer bags and use the vintage or older bags for special occasions? . . . . Or do you mostly carry newer bags and rehab just for enjoyment?
Hope you don't mind my asking, I'm just curious! :-)

I definitely carry my vintage bags. I own only a few newer bags (by newer I mean the Legacy 65th anniversary, 2 MFF totes, and 2 Poppy Willis which I love because of my love for the original Willises.) The rest are USA era made bags and I LOVE those old leather bags!!

Thanks for your input Jessi319. And I've seen some of your wonderful vintage bags. They're beautiful. :-)

Here's how you multi-quote:

You start with the first message that you want to select. Don't click on the "Quote" button, click on the button next to it that looks like 2 sheets of paper with a little green dot. After you click, the little green dot will turn red.

Repeat the process with the next messages until you reach the last message in the group. Click the "Quote" button on that message and all of the posts will appear in the message box.

The just reply in the normal manner and click "Submit Reply"

It's easy!

You did a great job with this bag. It looks good. Hope you are happy with the result.

very nice!! Love that bag!

Thank you, ladies! Yes, Gege I really am pleased with the outcome, especially since it my first attempt at painting a bag. Hey, Kate...look I multi-quoted!! :D Jessi, I love my bag too...love the blue, and she's so soft and smooshy!

Working on. Stewardess rehab that I earlier mentioned has a sweet smell - not quite musty but maybe incense or perfume. The seller said it had been in his wife's closet for a long time.

I bathed it with Nordstrom delicate wash but the only difference is this time I used unscented rather than lavender scent.

The bag is drying and still has traces of that smell. I think it is mostly leather and will be fine. It is not the yuk smell of mildew or mold though some mold can smell sweet and fruity.

Tips? Hoping the conditioning and airing out helps. I am contemplating putting in a sachet when it is dry as I find that lavender really is a good natural deodorizer.

Thanks for sharing! The "old" leathers were amazing. I'm just beginning to understand the love of that transformation like "cocoon to butterfly" that I've seen so many of you do with these bags. My daughter and I used to laugh and make fun of at a designer that would "massage" his bags like a cat kneading a pillow when he was demonstrating them on a certain "home network." Well darn if I don't find myself doing that with these old wonderful glove tanned bags! Lol!!!!

That's funny--when I am conditioning a bag I massage the leather too. The glove tanned leathers have such a beautiful hand to them. Then after they are conditioned and buffed out the leather is just delicious looking!:smile1:

good for you! I had a hard time figuring out the multi-quote too, but once you get it, it's easy!

I've seen some of the bags you've shared here whateve. They are gorgeous! You have a wonderful collection. I can sure understand you wanting to keep them safe. (I've seen at "least" one of your beautiful bags I'd almost trade an arm for!) :-p

So I guess I'm going to look for a stewardess bag then! I didn't realize they had extra pockets. Love that feature! I have seen a few on eBay but the prices were a lot higher than I hoped for so I passed them by in favor of the city bags. :-/

Thank you for the compliment. I love my collection too! I wouldn't recommend trading an arm for them though because then it would be hard to carry them!:roflmfao:

The stewardess has a pocket under the flap that seems like it was made for a phone.

You could try using Leather Therapy oil. It has it's own smell and when I have had bags that have smell it seems to replace it and then its own smells fades nicely.

If keeping it for yourself do as you like. If you're going to sell it, I'd recommend disclosing if you used lavender. A surprisingly large number of people are allergic, myself included.

I am so bad, after 3 days of wiping out the inside of my bag with apple cider vinegar diluted with water, I wanted to carry it today, so I grabbed one of my perfume samples and spritzed a bit inside! Luckily it is my bag, but once I get some proper leather wash I am going to wash it again to get rid of the musty smell 100%.
