I am just start to be interested in coach vtg bag and would like to buy this bag. From the picture, it looks like have few scratches from photo 1 and 6.
I need some advices for you all. Are those spots easy to clean? How to clean them? Thanks a bunch!

Here is the link of the bag photos:
http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages...0892,499930907&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0

The first photo is hard to see detail, but over all this bag's condition seems to be really great. Generally any scuffs or scratches can be minimized with a good cleaning and conditioning. Unless the spots shown are something more permanent and aren't scuffs, I'd say it looks like a nice bag. I haven't checked the creed #'s to see if it's authentic so that part needs to be confirmed as well before I"d buy any bag on ebay.

Thank you so much, Jessi319.

Since the creed #'s seem to be pre 1994 it looks good for its age if authentic, so maybe I'd ask the seller if the marks really are just scuff marks?

Thanks, Jessi319.
Here is what the seller said: " There are scuffs and the mark near the brass , I think if you used a leather cream it will lessen the scuffs however i cannot guarantee it will omit them entirely."

Can someone link to the actual instructions for rehabbing an old coach bag? Thanks!

I would start by sifting through this thread. You should be able to find bathing and general rehab instructions for the older glove tanned leather bags, but it also depends on your particular bag and its needs. If you post a photo, we may be able to help you more specifically.

good luck.

So I picked up an red rambler from the bay. The bag was listed as excellent condition. I picked it up for 22 shipped but I found that it had scattered pen marks through out the front of the bag....BOOO....why on earth would some one consider this bag in EUC? In any case, it was so cheap with free shipping it would be too much trouble to return.

I polished up the hardware and it looks great. Really the bag is in perfect condition aside from the pen marks.....But I can't use it as is. SO what would you do? My goal WAS to keep it for a while wear it with a special dress that I have and eventually sell it but I don't want to loose money on the bag or devalue it greatly.

What would you do?

1. Spend the extra 20 bucks and completely redye the entire bag red.
2. Try and paint out the pen with acrylic... possibley causing dull spots and inperfect color matching.
3. Use my artistry to paint a floral motif and cover the marks. I like this idea, but I am unsure of the results.
4. Sell it as is.
5. Do nothing and donate to the good will and watch while they hike the price up.

Wow, the hardware looks great! I think that having the bag dyed will cost more than $20 but you could take it to a professional and ask for an opinion.

I once tried to paint over a spot on a red bag and I was not successful. I couldn't get a good match and it looked dull and odd, and it was a much smaller area than you need to cover.

I would suggest trying to paint a floral motif, and then if you are still not happy with it; try selling it or giving it to goodwill.

I am dealing with the same issue right now. I picked up a light-colored sonoma bucket bag for $10 at the thrift shop. The bag is in good condition but there are several ink marks in one area. I think the previous owner was in the habit of sticking her pen between the drawstrings as a "handy storage spot!" (See photo below)

I've already used alcohol on the marks and given the bag a bath and I have managed to lighten the ink marks without losing color (but I wouldn't try it on a red bag.) I think I am going to try a second bath to see if I can lighten it some more. Then I will see how it looks. If I do try to overpaint the marks I might get lucky because the paint may not be as obvious on a bag with a pebbled texture.

You might try asking Zippy14u for advice; she had a khaki sig Carly with cuts or tears and she used beading to make a floral design and cover the tears, see below:

I'd definitely keep the bag because a red Rambler is awesome. That being said, if you are artistic, go for it and do a cool design. I'd way prefer that over #5 :smile1: I'm not artistic really, and I'd probably still wear it as is as a casual bag with Jeans and t shirt ,again, cuz it's an awesome red Rambler LOL...

Thanks for helping me decide. I think I want to try to paint a cherry blossom motif. I think that would look nice with the red and maybe I can accent it somehow with grommits or crystals or beads...maybe.

It's kind of a complicated design, but maybe you could adapt something similar to the Coach Tattoo design? I borrowed the attached pic from ebay as an example.

That might be the perfect design. A little. Difficult though. I wonder if I could get away with using a sharper ultra fine point for some of the details. I fear I would smear the design if I fry to Apple it.
