Sadly, I was not patient and I went ahead before seeing this, with not great results. I tried conditioning it, then, which did seem to help the bag overall and make the new water marks (?) less noticeable.

Not only that, but this bag seems to be a magnet for stuff and it has another spot of something that darkened the leather from today. I don't know if I should give it another full bath, then condition, then spray it with apple guard? Or keep conditioning to even out the color of the leather, then spray with something? Thanks in advance for anybody's thoughts.

Yeah, I would give it another full bath. Then recondition.

Hello!

I've been reading about all the wonderful rehabbing going on here, and have decided I'd like to try something a little more difficult than removing stains from signature jacquard! I recently purchased this bag on Ebay with hopes that I'll be able to get it to look at least marginally better!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/280727949331?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I know the pictures are terrible, and the bag is very light leather, but I have a few questions one of you might be able to answer?

Do you think I could give the whole bag a bath? From the pictures it is lined, but its hard to tell how dark the lining is without seeing it first hand. If the lining does appear to be a darker tan color, do you think it will discolor the outer bag?

Also, I've heard a lot about different leather cleaners (Lexol, apple, etc), which would be the easiest to find and best for this bag? From reading the creed's on similar bags I think it is made of natural cowhide leather? And if I can't dunk the bag can I use a leather cleaner to go over the entire outside?

Finally, I suspect my biggest challenge will be that worn corner. Any suggestions for fixing this? Glue of some sort with paint over it?

Thanks in advance for all your help! :)

Cute bag but wow, that bag is quite a challenge! I don't think I'd be brave enough to tackle a light-colored, lined bag with piping damage! But you didn't spend much on it so you can approach it as a "learner bag" and try a lot of things on it and see what works best.

I would definitely wash that bag. If I hand-washed it I would pull the lining out as far as possible (to get it clean too) and soak it, and gently scrub the bag and the lining. I have heard of some brightly-colored linings that have bleed, but I have now washed a few lined bags without problems.

The piping is a real problem. I have read about using vinyl repair products to build up the area and then touching up with acrylic paint, but that might be easier with a black bag. Here is a thread about piping repair. Good luck!

Thanks to everyone that recommended the Wenol to polish hardware. I thought for sure the hardware on my Regis was permanently darkened and it took a lot of time and patience but out finally turned out to be a beautiful shiny gold! I couldn't believe it! I was even able to brighten up the zipper. It is crazy how much newer it makes the bag look! I will do a reveal eventually. But I'm working on winning a red Regis on Ebay right now so I might wait until I see if I win it and reveal them together!

It's amazing how much of a difference the small details make in the overall appearance of the bag! Polishing the hardware and touching up the edging on straps when has been color loss makes a huge difference!

I look forward to your reveal(s)!

So I found a "vintage" bag today at the Goodwill! I have rehabbed around 10 bags but they have all been black, mahogney, or the british tan. Well this beauty is red! The color is amazing! So, any information on how to rehab it differently (if at all) would be great! I read on here that u shouldn't give it a bath....That kind of disappoints me because I feel like the bath cleans out the bag since who knows where it came through and went through and it restructures the bag. I don't want to lose the rich red color though!
DemRam kindly authenticated it as Legacy Small Pocket Zip from 2002. It's not very vintage but hey its vintage to me haha!

Hey, it has "vintage potential" nice find!

I hesitate to give a bath to a red bag because I am worried about color loss, but other TPFers have done it without problems. If I felt that the bag really needed a bath, I would probably risk it!

I cleaned up one vintage red bag, but it was in good shape so I didn't give it a bath. I vacuumed it out, cleaned the exterior with Lexol cleaning wipes, cleaned the interior with Lysol wipes, conditioned the bag, and polished the hardware.

Hi! This is for the expert rehabbies. I want to know if this bag can be brought back. I want to try myself or take it to a shoe store. I'm in love with the color of this bag. What do you think? TIA!

Nice bag! I think that is a British Tan bag.

Lighter-colored bags are more difficult to rehab because stains and flaws are more obvious and harder to eliminate. I have successfully rehabed some light bags and but I have not been as lucky with a few others.

My advice is this: if you can get the bag at a good price, then go for it! By "good price" I mean "if the rehab doesn't work out, I won't be out too much money and I will be okay with it."

Good luck! Here is an example of a British Tan bag that came out well, but it took some work:

So, after doing a few black bags now, I decided I wanted a challenge. I bought this bag:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/230663295923?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I figured for $10 it would be a learning experience, and while it might not ever look great, I could have a lot of fun working on it. Well, I got the bag today, and it didn't even have half the stains visible in the photos. I gave it a bath already, it is drying now, and all the stains have vanished except for two little tiny black ones near the bottom of the bag.
Has anyone else ever been disappointed that the bag came in looking better than you hoped??? I think this hobby is rapidly approaching obsession for me. Oh, and if anyone in this forum wants a real Coach dust bag, I found a local source for them here, the famous Nordstrom Last Chance store, and I will sell them to purse forum members for $8 each. I don't know if I can always get them, but the last time I was at the store I managed to get 6 of them, so I think odds are good that I might find more of them next time.

Thanks so much! I will wash it then, and will be off to Michael's after I am able to examine it! :)

:D I'm right there with you, sister. Some of mine just needed a nice little wipe down and that's it! And I would be interested in dust bags! How big/small are they?

angelaira and x UHOH X, you should probably take this discussion off-line. I know that the offer of dustbags was kindly made, to help out other TPF rehabbers, but the Moderators do not allow personal buy/sell discussions on the forum. Just to let you know.

Nice bag, especially for $10 bucks with free shipping! I have had a similar experience with a red bag. It looked much worse after I conditioned it because all kinds of flaws became obvious and visible. But after a couple of days when the conditioner was completely absorbed, the bag looked great! I think that the vendor may have tried to clean it up a bit and so it actually looked much worse in the photos than it really was.

Congratulations, nice find! And "yes" rehabbing can become an obsession!
