Gorgeous!! wonderful job!! IF you don't mind, tell us what you did personally to fix her up...we love knowing, and it helps others who are learning on here as well. Yes, we're nosy LOL...

Dear experts - how much dye would you think is reasonable to lift off with CPR? For the equestrian zip I am working on a little black came off in the bath. I just did the second post bath application and buffing of CPR and some black came off on the sponge and paper towels. I don't think it is enough to be shoe polish but I really can't say. And I already discarded the paper towels so I can't show you.

I really want to keep this bag since the leather actually is in very good shape. But I don't want it to stain my clothes.

Thanks!

Did you dye the bag or are you asking about color-loss during rehab?

Asking about color loss during rehab. I didn't dye the bag but am unsure as to whether slight darkening of the buffing cloths is a sign that more of the color may lift off during future use.

It is not unusual to experience a little color release during the rehab.

Whew - good to know. I should add that in the meantime I buffed repeatedly and also used a Cape Cod cloth on the brass hardware. I like the patina of the hardware very much and am really
Hopeful about this bag. The tacky glue areas have dried under the zipper and only some
Brown glue residue remains. On my final buff so far only minimal color came off into the buffing cloth. I don't think this one needs Blackrock but I will re-assess tomorrow. The creed was almost worn off but the leather is almost pristine aside from the strap edges. Not sure how this bag was used in the past.

Heck, I almost did the happy dance when I saw it. I've been reading this thread since I joined...waiting on a bag to rehab and hoping to find the products used here. Now heading to eBay for Blackrock.

I'll be back!

I did - I did do the Happy Dance when CPR returned to my Tuesday Morning...at about half the price of Bed, Bath & Beyone...for a bigger tube! Yay!

Actually I tried soaking it in the sink with Borax and clear-non perfume detergent. I then ran it in the washing machine on gentle. Stuffed it with a towel and let it air dry. While slightly damp I used Lexol conditioner on it. I then made a combination mixture of acrylic paint and watered it down to almost a dye and coated the bag. Once that died I used Lexol again to condition and remove any residual. Leather polish and buffed it. I used Bar Keepers Friend on the brass and gave that a little buff. That is it.

It is almost therapeutic to rehab these back to life. I am becoming like a mad scientist with the mixtures I keep coming up with. Husband thinks I am more nuts than usual :amazed:

Would you think I'm weird that I'm so happy to have found Leather CPR? LOL

No. I am too. So happy I have conditioned just about everything I can think of. When I ran out if stuff I washed my 21yo son's sperry topsiders, stuffed them with paper towel to dry then conditioned them with Leather CPR. The looked sooooooo much better. Yes, talk about leather conditioner happy. ;)

If you decide to send it to Coach, make sure you tell them you want the bag back if they can't repair it. How old is the bag? Otherwise they will toss it, and send you a discount card good at full price Coach store. Very often Coach doesn't want the hassle of fixing the bags.
You can call Coach and get a replacement turnlock for any of the old bags you just give them the serial number that is inside the bag and they will send it to you. It is not hard to replace you just have to gently pry open the two brass tabs on the back and take it out then you put the new turnlock in place and bend back the tabs to lay flat on the brass plate which covers the back of the turnlock. There is no spring in the turnlock and they just loosen with age.

I was happy dancing in Marshall's when I found it! I said, "I wonder if they have Leather CPR", turned around and there it was! It was like I had wished it there!

I think the dye they used on the older bags wasn't very colorfast because it comes off on the towel when I buff. I find this more with the older bags than with the newer ones. For some reason, my black bag from the early 90's didn't bleed at all, but every other bag I have from the 70's, 80's and 90's lost color.

Thanks! Helpful to know. Did you ever have problems with color transfer onto your clothes after using these rehabbed older bags? I figure I
Have to buff really hard to get color off so I am hoping it will be ok. I just don't like thinking too hard about which bag to use.
