Since my earlier post: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-624452-286.html#post22354042 I’ve been looking all over for newer Abbie's for comparison - and have come up with NOTHING!

Though not a remarkable rehab reveal, I just wanted everyone to see the differences in my two Abbie’s.

Both of these bags have had Dawn baths, good rinses, reshaping, conditioning with Leather CPR and finishing with Blackrocks. The brown one started out much like cardboard...really stiff and smooth looking. When I applied CPR, it just laid on the surface for a long time, but finally started absorbing. Then a nice familiar grain started to appear and the leather became much more supple, though much thinner than the orange one.
The orange one is from 1997, the brown one from 2003. The details of the bags, though, remain significantly different. The top of the brown bag itself is more rounded, the pocket is more curved, the D rings are more pointy (although I’ve seen this same hardware on my 88-89 Swinger Bag) and most notably the difference in the distance (and size) of the fold-over thingy on the strap (the last pics). Even the zipper pulls are slightly different!

Who knows...different ages, different plants...I just don’t know if the brown one is real or not...I’ll continue to look for comparisons! Give me a shout if anyone finds a 2003, please.

that's really interesting. Did Hyacinth and the "A" Team mark it questionable at all? I'm kind of starting to really immerse myself in this whole "plant" code thing because there seems to be just enough "disconnect" on the information about where bags are made and what plant codes are assigned that I have to wonder about some of these bags that are too perfect in every detail yet are still being considered questionable -but I don't have the skill nor the resources to do my own investigating...so its taken some of the fun out of my thrifting because I am really sick of the fakes I'm finding that are perfect in every detail except for some obscure pull tab or plant code ya know? I'll pay attention to creeds when I'm auction hunting to see if a seller has a bag with good photos for you.

Yes, Hyacinth found it questionable...her comments are here http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-830.html#post22347169 and here http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-832.html#post22353682

Her points are well taken! And yes, fakes suck!

Hyacinth authenticated this Coach Leatherware Swagger Bag #9820 from the late 80's here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-763164-8.html#post22428420

Though the piping was a hot mess, I figured she was worth the rehab! She was dry, faded and scratched up a little, but in otherwise ok condition, good strap and all stitching tight and intact. Coach Leatherware bags are my favorites!

First a good sudsy Dawn soak and scrub, then a long clean rinse followed by a couple of days drying while stuffed to reshape. Two rounds of Leather CPR while still damp started making improvements in the look & feel of the leather. I touched up the raw, whitish edges of the piping with black acrylic mixed with Lexol conditioner, applied with a sponge-tipped makeup applicator. Also did the same on the edges of the strap. This always makes such a nice improvement to older black bags!

The piping repair was a PITA! It took many, many coats of straight black acrylic to fill in and build up the holes and tears. And you all know my (im)patience level (lol) was tested by having to work slowly and let the paint dry between applications. Part 2 to follow with after pics.

Wow, she looks like a challenge! What is the name of this bag?

I finished with a couple of rounds of Blackrocks, buffed her with my horsehair blend brush and tidied up the brass. I may at some point, continue to improve the piping...just anxious to take her out on the town! I love the pockets on both sides and lots of room!

The next to last photo shows a white stripe on the piping...just an outdoor lighting highlight...it's really black. Oh yeah, and it came with the usual (in my experience) single-sided Coach Leatherware hangtag.

The results are definitely worth my time and patience, though, she looks waaaay younger and has a lot of life yet to live...this was one rewarding, therapeutic rehab!

PITA challenge! Swagger Bag #9820...love the size and double pockets! I just posted the afters!

Wow..you are more patient than me!! Amazing!! enjoy her!!
(and silly question, but could you take a photo at some point of the tubes of acrylic you use? I am just curious as to the look of them, and my art supply stores are disappearing all around me so I hope to get an idea of what you guys are looking at)

Nice Work! I always tell myself I will never get a bag that needs piping repair. Stop making it look easy or I might break my rule! :D
