Welcome to rehab...
It was angelaira's post (http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-624452-185.html#post21812091) that mentioned grommets. You might want to ask a reputable cobbler for an opinion, if Coach can't help you. And if you can post some photos of your strap problem, our members may have other suggestions...photos always help!

While I'm relatively new here, I've recently bathed and rehabbed 2 red bags, with varying degrees of success. My best advice is to read, read and read as many of the posts here as you can...I know it's a lot, but you will discover many different methods, get a feel for the process and learn about different cleaning, conditioning and finishing products. You can use the "Search this Thread" box at the top of any page to find specific topics. For example, type in "red" and you'll get shortcuts to posts that mention red bags.

Probably the biggest thing I've learned is that EVERY rehab is DIFFERENT...and quite often there are unexpected surprises. I don't mean to scare you, I just want you to be prepared. Feel free to post "before" photos and ask for advice. We're all here to share our experiences and help each other. Good luck with your projects, and keep posting!
Thanks, as above, tried to reply. Maybe it is because I'm new that I can't post the pix. I am reading all the info about how to clean and rehab.

I assume you've tried Black Rocks to see if it darkens and evens the color? It doesn't look horrible in the picture. (PS: I have the Tribeca 9098 in Eggplant).

If you do a search on "red" in this thread you'll find my red spectator City Bag. I would say the color evened out on that one after a few baths and some Black Rocks, but she was in bad shape to begin with. She's been peeking out at me from the hook I have her hanging on in the closet and from there she looks pretty good from there, I kinda feel like I owe it to her to take her out to the grocery store or something, she's not had an easy life, poor thang.

And speaking of RED...I like the grocery store idea! This is the last you'll see of this bag...I think...I've had it! Not my most successful rehab, that's for sure, but it added to my experience and truly, she's better off than before. There was lots of black below the buckles on both sides, minimized by a 2nd bath, some hotel bar soap, conditioning and Blackrocks 2x. Blackrocks really deepened the color depth, not that it's darker, just has more of a glow. She'll get out occasionally...probably after dark!

I know pictures don't always capture what you can see IRL, but I think she's a pretty girl!!

Grocery store, camping...

I think yours looks pretty good. I can't see any flaws in the picture, at least. I think I'd be a little more likely to carry my red gal if I didn't already have a near perfect stewardess that I know I'll grab when I need some red leather. I do know that a bath improved her color so I guess I lucked out there.

I actually noticed the other day that she's a NYC City, for some reason I was thinking she was newer than that. I still need to Black Rocks the tan piping, I didn't do it the first time around because I was picking up some red and didn't want to risk rubbing it into the tan, and never got around to getting a clean cloth to do so. That should help too.

comments/descriptions are in the flickr images. Let me know if this doesn't work. Photostream of before:

photostream of after: (feel free to tell me what you would do) I haven't done anything more aggressive (paint) because I may end up selling her since I have other styles I like more. But she's a cool bag with wonderful leather.

I dunno...I just love reds so much!! And don't wanna wreck her. Or dye her, or paint her. But that doesn't leave many options..LOL.

I totally love that bag, she is so pretty :smile1: and WOW WOW on the collection I am in awe of you and of everyone else, I can't wait to purchase my first Coach, I think I might even look for the style of the red bag, that style seems to be calling my name...lol

Not true, I only show pictures of the sucessful rehabs, but thank you!

That made me laugh! And reminds me I have photos I need to post, I am working on my two Kisslock totes, and doing piping repairs on both... and I just dyed that makeup bag that was so faded out. I want to wait until all the stuff is actually complete though, and I forgot some before pics, as usual! I am like a kid in a candy store, I check the mail at 4pm everyday, and immediately start work on anything that comes in!

My Stewardess that was missing grommets on the strap is still off at coach, and I haven't heard anything yet. The SA did tell me that if they still make the style of bag they are usually able to do the repairs, especially on something as simple as replacing some grommets. I tried DIY first, and neither of the craft stores I went to had brass grommets at all. I figured for $20 at Coach I had a chance of getting the right ones, rather than a cobbler who might not have the right thing.

Thank you very much. I've just been looking at all the reveals and rehabs others have done and have slowly figured out what kinds of bags I love. And I thrift shop as much as I possibly can. I found this one at a thrfit shop for about $12. I haven't seen too many red ones...that's why I want to try and fix the color and stain issues. It is a very nice thick leather on this style of bag. It's called a Tribeca...they also came in a style with two handles. If I decide to sell her I"ll let you know :smile1:

I wish I had thrift stores close enough to were I live I live in a small town... Maybe I will venture out to a bigger city and see what I can find :smile1: OoooHHHHH thank you so much for telling me the name, Do you think the Tribeca would be big enough to hold an ipad with an otterbox case??

Thank you so much for the help :smile1:

hmmm possibly. I'll measure her tomorrow and you can check to see. I don't own an ipad so can't try a "fit" test. It would be close but may be possible

Has/Does anyone here use the "ArmorAll" brand Leather wipes?? I know some of you use Lexol wipes but the store I went to had the ArmorAll brand and I was curious to see how they worked.

I said Katev does, but that was not true, I thought I saw someone who had, but I cannot find the post... could be my alzheimer's setting in early or something! If you try it, let us know, lol!!

And...
I have a Tribeca tote in Navy blue, and it was my worst rehab so far. I thought it was the Navy color, but after seeing the red one, I think it might just be that type of leather... I just got a nice bottle of Feibing's Leather Stain from E-Bay, so maybe I will pull that bag out again...

And my Tribeca (9098) a little different from the red one, outside dimensions 9" tall by 12" across, is too small to fit my iPad comfortably, and I don't have a case for my iPad yet. The iPad without the case will fit into the bag, but if I put it in standing up it is too tall and sticks up above the zipper a bit, and sideways it has to hit the zipper on one side or the other to fit into the bag.

And also...
I finally found the original post asking about Coach repairs, and saw why the grommet repair I am having done was mentioned, so here is my new response:
Coach can do repairs on some things and not others, it just depends on what it is. If Coach says they cannot do it, they usually give you the option of a coupon or a store credit for the value of the item, I have had both things happen, just depends on when the item was purchased. I had an outlet bag a couple of years ago where the piping had worn through, and they gave me store credit for the full amount I paid for the bag, two years later. I had a wallet last year that was also from an outlet, and they did the same thing, gave me a store credit for the value of the item. In both cases they kept the items.
I haven't had any bags that I have taken in to them for repairs since I started rehabbing except the Stewardess, and that was simply because I felt they were the best ones to do the job.
If you took it in and a sales associate told you they couldn't help you, and did not offer any kind of coupon or anything, it could be that you got a sales associate that isn't knowledgeable about the repair side of the business. I would try a different store if you have one anywhere near you, or I would call the corporate number, they are usually very helpful there.
Welcome to rehabbing, it is so much fun and so rewarding!

I think it looks good! I tried to clean my little red multi-function purse, but it bled red dye. I am the original owner but it was getting dark around the edges so wanted to try. I think it is the water buffalo hide, so that can't be cleaned with the cleaner. Ooops! Well, it looks OK but I don't know if it is now not color fast. So your results look pretty nice to me. What is black rocks? Thank you.
