Much improved! Do you think that the agitator would be harmful to your bags even if you put them in a pillow case or bag before washing?

I've just picked up a baby blue hamptons hobo at Savers for $8 that Hyacinth has authenticated. The bag is intact but worn and dirty and faded.

The AT pics are at the link below, do you think that some of the discoloration is due to color transfer or is more likely just from wear and dirt? Maybe I should try the eraser on it before I wash it?

I just saw your new baby on the AT thread...I wanna go to Savers...but we don't have one! I think you should give her a bath first, then see if you need the eraser...might just be dirt. Good Luck...I'm sure you will do your usual fantastic rehab...can't wait to see!

That's a cute hobo!!

I have taken a big step :blushing: and purchased a pretty beaten up British Tan purse online to refurbish. It has a couple of large water marks and it will be my first try to bath a leather purse. :sweatdrop:

Those of you who have successfully rehabed a Tan color leather bag, would you chime in to share your tips? :chatty:

Thanks so much!!

Yeah, that's what I will probably do, thanks!

Do you have Value Village in your area? They are the same company as Savers. They had several nice Coach bags there but they were too expensive. There was a dark green suede satchel, both black and navy legacy zip bags, and a pretty camel bag (with pen marks ) and others; but they were all marked from $40 to $70 and that's too much. So I bought the $8 blue hobo and I will see what I can do with her! :D

Here are a couple of my recent rehabs. Hyacinth identified it as a Compact Pouch 9620 from the late 1980s. I bought it at the Goodwill for $7.

When I bought it I was unsure of the color but I thought it might be dark green. I actually named it "Green Flap Bag" when I posted it in the AT thread, but it's not green. It is black or maybe navy. Here are the before pics and I will post the after photos in the next message.

Here are the after photos for the Compact Pouch 9620. It's a cute bag. It's a little bigger than a scooter but made in a similar manner. I washed and shaped it, touched up the strap edges with acrylic paint, conditioned it, treated it with blackrocks, and polished the hardware with wenol.

I don't think you will see much improvement by putting her in a washing machine. I put my Sonoma pebbled leather in the washer and although it didn't cause any damage, it didn't remove any stains. Your Hamptons is smooth leather so I don't think it would handle the agitation as well. I think your major problem is the fading and other than dye I don't know what you can do for that. I'm wondering if those yellow spots are from dirt or from prior attempts to clean.

Here's another rehab I've just finished. I bought it at Savers for $8 and Hyacinth said that it is a Slim Clutch Large 9555.

It had bad ink spots on the inside pocket and the stitching had come undone on the strap pull - and I really couldn't figure out how it was supposed to look.

Here are some before pics and a closeup of the strap pull before I took it to the cobbler.

Thanks! When I look at the one at the link below that is in excellent condition, it makes it clear how much abuse my poor $8 bag has suffered! I hope I can revive her! Oh well, I've added her to my ever-growing rehab pile!

Hmm, based on the suspicious dirt pattern, I wonder if that was sweat, from a teen in a tank top carrying the bag as a shoulder bag? Does it have a sort of shine where it is darker in spots? I had gf's in high school whose bags ended up like that, and I accidently ended up with one off eBay a year or so ago. I got frustrated with the eBay one, so let us all know if (when) you sort this particular issue out!

Here are the after pics of the Slim Clutch Large 9555. I washed it, conditioned it, and treated it with blackrocks and polished the hardware with Wenol. I used acrylic paint on the inside pocket to minimize the worst of the ink spots.

I took it to the cobbler and showed him how I thought the pull strap was supposed to look. He just said that he would fix it; but when I got it back I realized that I had it wrong and he had it right! He turned the strap it right-side-out, folded the ends around the zipper pull ring, and then stiched across both parts of the strap to secure it. I guess sometimes you really just need to ask a professional! He charged me $8, which is the same amount I spent on the bag - but it was worth it - so my total cost is $16.

This bag is also unusual because there is a hole punched in the side near the zipper to accomodate the hangtag chain. I tried a couple of brown hangtags but they were the wrong color so I finally decided to use this goldtone tag.

I have plans for using this bag myself and I am very happy at the way it turned out!

I was thinking of oil and dirt from handling it but I suppose that sweat is a good possibility - yuck! I'll let you know if I have any luck with it - when I get around to trying to rehab it! Thanks!

I am sure somewhere in my pile there's a bag twin!! It's nice to see what mine can aspire to !! Gorgeous

Anybody wanna see my Coach babies??? Quite a few are rehabs I've done. Sometime over the weekend I'll take photos of my as yet untouched rehab pile.

I decided since my living room is still bare from the post tornado work being done, it was my best chance to have space to line everybody all up! I guess I kinda understand why my DH is a little annoyed with me LOL. I am kinda new to the Flickr sharing thing, so let me know if this isn't working!!

(Darn I hate being at the very BOTTOM of a thread page) LOL
