Just for reference here are some photos

This is a tough one...if you feel it is SNAD (significantly not as described) you can probably return it. The thing is, if you like it and want to fix it but it doesn't work out, you're stuck with it. And without knowing what the discoloration is from, it's hard to give an answer on what to do. Maybe the seller can give more information and/or accept a return?

That said, it would also be a little easier to give advice if we could also see a picture of the entire bag. It's hard to tell what part is discolored and to really see how bad it is in the close ups.

We make you work for it here!

I understand, lol. Here is the whole bag. It's hard to tell with the lighting in my apt. Most of the brown color is at the top crease, the bottom corner and under the handles. It seems like the front left side has a brown tint when it's in natural or bright light. Maybe I'm being too much of a perfectionist! 😊

That helps...I'm not familiar with this bag, is it possible that is the normal wear of the leather, or is there something "on" the bag?

If that wasn't disclosed, I would say that's at least worth contacting the seller about. I'm no expert, others may give you better advice, but maybe you can get a discount?

Andrea has been on my wish list for a long time...she was made in the Fall of 2006. It's hard to tell if the leather is just worn or if something's on it. I used a bit of leather cleaner on the handle and it got some of it off, but definitely not near what I would like it to. Overall I guess it's not too bad, but I did contact the seller to see what she would offer. I still haven't gotten a response, so I guess we'll see. I've been searching too long to send her back, lol. :smile1:

If some came off, then it might be on the outside of the bag, in which case it is removable, you just have to experiment to see what might remove it. I would find a non-visible test area if possible and try all my favorites, alcohol, acetone, etc. to see if anything takes it off.
Another alternative is sending it in to Coach, they might know what is wrong and what to do, sometimes you get lucky that way.
Another alternative is to try covering it with a mix of acrylic paint and moisturizer... Joodlz is the expert on that particular blend... Or just a well matched acrylic paint, rubbed into it so it won't be visible on the surface but will cover the brown color...
It really all depends on how you want it to turn out and what the stain is... the location of the stain, etc.

I never though of acrylic paint & moisturizer. I may try that. Thanks!

Can someone help me with my acrylic paint disaster? I have been inspired by all the coach rehabs and thought I could try using a mixture of acrylic craft paint and armor all gel on my Elliot Lucca woven leather hobo. The bag is a pretty coral color and the color has worn off on the edges on the straps and the corners of the bottom. I found some paint that was almost an exact match. I applied the mixture with a Q-tip and massaged it in with my fingers. The result is chalky acrylic on the surface. I tried massaging more just plain armor all; still chalky. Did I use the wrong kind of paint? It is Americana craft from Michaels. Any way to rescue my bag?

I haven't had good luck with paint yet either. I'm sure it takes practice and experimentation. You should be able to wash the paint off. It is possible that you got different results because the Elliot Lucca bags are manufactured with a different process than Coach.

I had the same trouble when I first tried acrylic paint, looked like blobs of paint off a kid's painting! My diagnosis was the same as whateve's: I put it down to technique and the original leather finish.

On technique, I have been more successful using many (at least 3-4, and 8-10 or more where the leather is worn away) very thin layers of paint, as recommended by someone in the thread, I think katev. I had luck dabbing on paint, letting it sit for 10-15 seconds, and then dabbing off excess with a clean cloth so that there was only a thin, even layer. (masking tape around the edges of the repair area did help when I tried another bag last week)

On leather finish, here is my ultra nerdy version of whateve's point. Glove tanned leather is easy to repair, either by redying (as this thread shows!) or touching up because it is matte like acrylic paint. Many high-end bags have a dye that is partially painted on the leather, making the bag initially more resistant to scratches and stains, but much harder to repair once damaged. Yours sounds like that is the issue. The semi-aniline bags often have a sheen or gloss to the finish that is harder to match with paint. I believe that you can use pearly/high gloss acrylic, or put one or two thin layers of a glossy sealer on top of the color. I'm fairly sure that is what katev did to repair one of her bags, maybe her copper Zoe (the metallic paint would have a sheen and match better). Hopefully she will be back soon from her holiday and coach shopping out west!

And ditto on using soap and water to remove the first attempt, light use of a nail file helps if some of it is stubborn.

The first question...is the acrylic matte finish or glossy. I have used glossy acrylic with ArmorAll gel and had it appear flat when it dries. Then I've applied Leather CPR and the shine comes back! Just make sure your acrylic dries thoroughly, then condition. Hope you have good results...let us know!

I posted the before and in-progress pics a few days ago (http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-624452-188.html#post21825423) and now the reveal!

Finished up with a couple of rounds of Leather CPR and black acrylic touch-up on the strap edges...she's ready to return to the world! I've always loved this bag...the leather is really light and soft, compared to my others. Now she'll be my go-to bag!

Thanks everyone, as always, for your kind comments, inspiration and encouragement on my rehabs...I truly love this forum!
