I was on pins and needles yesterday wondering if she would go above my price range!!

She needs a piping repair...

Wow that's a great price. I was really happy when I found mine for $79 and I can't complain because it's in perfect condition. I didn't even give her a refreshing dunk as she is fresh and clean. I've been meaning to post her in the "deals" thread because she is not a rehab project.

Back in March, right after I became a member, Hyacinth authenticated this 1999 Anderson Zip for me. Found her at Goodwill early this year marked "AS IS" for $4.99. She had a couple of tiny holes in the bottom piping, which was pretty well worn all over, but the body of the bag was in very good shape, despite slumping a bit. In those early days, I was toooo chicken to dunk her, so I just conditioned, conditioned and conditioned with Leather CPR, with good success.

Earlier this week, I wanted to take a break and do some easier rehabs, so she was a likely candidate! In addition to my usual procedure, she got a rub with black acrylic mixed with Lexol on the pocket side and all the piping. I filled in the holes on the bottom with full-strength acrylic and touched up the strap edges. Then lots and lots of Leather CPR. Wow! Even hubby says she looks brand new. And no more slouching! Below are some before's and after's. The last pic is a detail of the strap...a most interesting "star-like" texture in the leather...shame it's only on the strap.

Advice to everyone just starting out...take katev's advice (and now mine too) and start with a dark colored bag. The results are remarkable and the learning curve is manageable! Then go from there...at your own pace.

Thanks everyone for making this possible! She'll be out and about on a regular basis now.

Oh wow, in the "before" pix I thought that was a green bag! Looks great!

This is impressive indeed! May I ask, after cleaning, did you condition it well first and THEN paint it, or paint it first before conditioning? I have a pair of boots that need painting to touch up on some spots, and I am not sure if conditioning first will make the dye not stick as strongly?

Thank you!

This old girl has just had a sad, mistreated life! She started out light tan, was abused with shoe polish and darkened with vinegaroon. She was still a spotted mess and was just not looking very Coach like! What's a girl (me) to do? Get out the Minwax and keep going!

After seeing 4213Jen's recent wood stain success, I knew I had to try again! This is going to work! As it had been conditioned after the vinegaroon experiment, I poured acetone nail polish remover all over, rubbed it in then rinsed it off. Then scrubbed with a Magic Eraser and let her dry in the sun. After 2 good rubbed in treatments with Ebony Wood Finish over the last two days we'll see how she looks in the morning. I did learn today, that it's a good idea to wipe off the excess 15 minutes or so after rubbing it in. I'm sure that will help with the drying too. I also discovered that just like a felt tip explosion inside a bag, the hangtag wicked the stain from the back to the front and is now jet black! After it dries, I'll just rough up the back with a suede brush.

Below are a few pics of her journey...more in a couple of days.

This brass reminds me of the older Bonnie era bags with the silver peeking through the brass. Unfotunately they didn't always use solid brass back then...and I've done some online checking and replating the brass is really hard to do and the chemicals involved are very unpleasant apparently. If a magnet sticks to it, then it contains other metal than brass. And there's not much you can do. Otherwise, Lexol is about the gentlest and best conditioner, as well as Apple. I've used those on my most delicate leathers.
Thank you for the tip!! I think I will just live with the hardware, its not THAT bad that I would want to kill myself with fumes trying to replate it. Im going to go moisturize it now! Thanks for your help as always

Great deal!! Black is a great color that I will probably have to get eventually. It is the only color besides the mahogany brown that doesn't show that typical "darkening" that keeps happening to the edges of these bags

Your wallet is very stylish. I hope you will post after pics too please

Today I found this Salvatore Ferragamo wallet at a consignment store. I posted pictures in the authentication thread for Ferragamo and am waiting for a response but after looking at their website Im confident its authentic.

Anyway I digress. Now I know its not a Coach but I thought I could get some of your input...I was wondering what kind of moisturizer I should use on it. Its like a soft calf leather. Also, the brass hardware is starting to rub and turn slightly silver on the corners. Is there anything to fix this? Will Brasso restore the gold color or make it worse?!

Beautiful, as always. And I cannot believe the prices you are finding these bags for! I'm with Angelaira and would like to see a family shot soon...

Hyacinth authenticated this 1992-93 Megan Bag back in April. I only paid $5.99 at Goodwill in 2003. Years later, found one on ebay...only then did I discover that she was a Coach - and a rather unique one at that!

Although she doesn't get a lot of use, saved for special occasions around holiday time, she was a candidate for another easy rehab. Easy? You bet. Bath, reshape, touch up strap edges and piping, condition with Leather CPR and we're done! She feels like a baby's butt!

You won't see much difference in the pics, but there are 2 before's and 2 after's. You will see a ridge on the front flap just below where it folds, and a kind of round shaped area above the point on the flap. There is a cardboard insert in the flap that creates the ridge and the reinforcement for the magnetic closure creates the round thingy. Sometimes more noticeable than others...don't think there's a cure.

Rehabbing is sooo therapeutic...especially when they're as easy as this!

I recently got an Andrea satchel in Fatigue on eBay and when it came it has a brown tint on some sections. Anyone have suggestions on how to get rid of this? I love this bag but am annoyed that the seller didn't disclose the info. Thanks for the help!
