In regards to the FOS overhaul, has anybody else noticed the excessive amount of rock-bottom prices on FP items that came from nowhere recently? It did not seem like a release of vaulted products from a certain season. I was blown away by products I haven't seen in forever, but they all sold out quickly due to a) low quantities (assumedly) and b) exorbently low prices.

I'm excited for the new business model in the sense that I'll feel justified spending my money on a bag of excellent quality at the boutique instead of worrying it might go on sale in 3 weeks. This will make my purchases a less stressful/worrisome activity as I know the items won't be marked down for months, if at all.

Of course I'll miss the flash sales on FOS EVERY DAY (although I should really be working at work, not scanning my iPhone on Safari for the FOS deals today). Ha. But really, I've spent money on purses as impulse buys because FOS is "such a great deal". Then I have second thoughts because it was never on my wish list and I return it later. I don't NEED all the Coach purses I own.

The bags I cherish the most and use frequently are the deliberated purchases when I was indifferent to deletion timelines.

I completely agree. I usually buy LV and have been looking at other brands which has left me overwhelmed. So many retailers, so many sales, it's too much work. I rarely regret FP purchases.

The sad thing is, by trying to create scarcity and exclusivity, Coach is only going to alienate luxury, mainstream and outlet shoppers. The luxury shoppers will not ever believe that Coach is a luxury brand. There is too much competition in the luxury market and Coach simply does not have the status or cache to pull market share from premium brands in my opinion. Mainstream shoppers will be annoyed at the (very) small selection in department stores (dept stores will not buy much if they cannot mark the bags down at will) and will turn to other brands that have sales and that have a bigger selection. Tourist outlet shoppers will always be there but the savvy outlet shoppers will stop shopping at outlets if there are no deletes there, and without daily FOS sales, where are all the non-sold items going to go?

This plan reeks of desperation and is doomed to fail in my opinion.

Your points are well made. I believe much of it will do with the quality. Do you know Stuart Vevers history? When he came to Mulberry it was a substantial English brand but he helped make it into an international luxury brand. It was after he left Mulberry that their financial troubles started with the misdirection of their new creative director. Vevers then went to Loews (sp?) and did the same for that company. Their price per bag is very high. Let's hope as creative director he can help pull Coach out of the hole they have dug themselves into by producing products to sell cheaply. Frankly, I don't get MK's appeal as many of his products aren't as well made as Coach bags.

Agreed! I don't like his designs as I feel nearly all of them are silhouetted after higher brands but the middle class customers he targets are unaware of the copied designs. I have a few SLG of MK, without the huge logo everywhere, but his bags are not worth the $$$$$ he charges. Every time I wander into an MK store, be it FP or outlet, I am disappointed by the quality. Nearly all his bags are the super thin saffiano, very few raw leather bags offered anymore! Ok... MK hate rant over.

I for one don't think Coach's problem has to do with the quality or the styling/attractiveness of the bags, else there wouldn't be so many of us fans. The majority of the bags are beautiful with great craftmanship and wonderful leather.
Are there occasional problems? sure, but what brand doesn't have quality problems sometimes? Just reading the other forums here is eye opening regarding quality problems in luxury bags.

In order to ride out the recent recession Coach introduced new lines of less expensive bags in the $300-$400 price range which when bought on sale, or at outlet, make very inexpensive "luxury" bags, something they are now trying to correct with their new lines at higher price points.

IMHO their biggest problems are caused by over production and having to send vast numbers of FP bags to the outlets three months later. We've learned not to pay full price and to wait to buy bags with PCE or at the outlets or even department store sales.
Also the vast numbers of inexpensive outlet bags out there, both mff and fp, makes Coach seem "less special" to a lot of people, so they are reluctant to, as they put it, "pay that much for Coach".

THIS. at least for me. back in the day it took forever to get an invite to the outlet store online - it was a year from sign-up for me! now that i can i can't remember the last time i even looked at the coach FP online store. and since this brand is a "if i see a good deal i will buy it but otherwise......" it isn't that serious to me. i am fine with the ones i have and if it months before i buy another one at my outlet then that is fine with me.
