I think some of the recent satchels are "grandma" bags. (I won't name names)

I think some do, but it is all about context. What at first appeared to be grandma bags have been to rocked by some ladies on TPF. I love, love mod shots! It has given me such a new perspective on bags. "Grandma bags" can look hot on someone who has the right look.

Absolutely! Just sharing what goes around in my circle ;)

I feel like my time (and money) spent with Coach is coming to a close. I'm not digging the direction, the fall lineup is not appealing to me, and I would miss Madison's and Bleecker's as they are now. I guess it's time to look elsewhere.

And they're going to have a rough time attracting the younger crowd to the brand. My friends tease me about Coach being the "grandma" bags. I don't think these new bags with turnlocks everywhere help.:laugh:

Totally agree that they won't be attracting the younger crowd. Lol. Some of the newer "neutral" bags are just a little blah. This young mommy wants to see some flare!

Is anyone considering picking up a specific bag or style that you've been considering now that these changes are coming? I try pretty hard to keep a small number of bags but I'm now wondering if I should pick up anything that might not be available in the future such as another Daily or Madison bag. While I do like a few of the fall styles that have been previewed, I'm not sure that I'll be able to handle the higher prices that we are seeing forecasted for the future.

Anyone else having this internal debate right now? Buy now or wait to see how things shake out?

I know I would have bought more than I did with the previous pce if I had known it would be the last one. I'm still thinking about a black daily and hoping it may show up in the semi annual sale when they add new things to it next week.

I wanted the black daily too and decided not to wait. Grabbed it from dillards online, around $100 with extra 30% off of the clearance price. But I'd buy another color if it shows up on coach.com on July 1

I have the silt and its a great color, it goes with everything. My own rule is only 1 of any style, but I will break that rule if I can get a good price, the daily is a fantastic bag! I'm in Canada....no Dillard's or Macy's, etc.

This analysis is on point. The new management focus is on what a small leadership team thinks will evolutionize a turn around. The turn around plans appear to be , to significant extent, missing the customers' voice and choice. Abandon thousands of customers' past shopping patterns and focus on five or six people's visions, using involvement and history from another designer in a different demographic vertical ?!

I know, it's crazy isn't it. Coach will lose way more market share abandoning the old styles and sales channels than they will gain with trying to sell the new styles at full price in limited channels.

That market share, once lost will be very expensive to win back if it is even possible to win it back.

Agree with you both. They seem to have their thumbs up their you know what!

I agree with the above. I already am starting to feel disconnected from Coach, as I feel like they are purposely trying to get rid of customers like myself. The average price handbag shopper that is willing to pay some $ for quality, but not what I consider ridiculously high amounts. That said, I have never been into MK or Kate Spade...nothing they have interests me, so it isn't like I will go to a competitor. I will most likely just enjoy what I have and hopefully save myself some money.

I just don't feel like becoming a part of the new demographic they are seeking. They are taking the fun out of handbag shopping for me with all of these limits, etc, they are setting up.

I never thought of it that way but yeah that is how it feels for me too

If they are smart they will just bring in a couple of new lines with the new bags, while leaving the Madison, Bleecker and whatever other line is selling. They are always introducing or bringing back, new lines so I don't see the problem.

Totally agree they should have a permanent line like Madison etc that evolves but keeps the same feel.

I'm just not liking very many of their bags now. Coach can't seem to stick with any medium size bags.

Who ever thought it was a good idea to eliminate the medium sized bags? Seriously wasn't small Sophia a big seller? But I am seeing this in some other brands too besides Coach. Hope it is a trend that ends very soon!

Yes I feel this way too. I don't want to invest in full price bags, have this plan fail and then all of sudden my FP bag is 60% off. I am approaching cautiously

This!!! We had no warning that this would be the last one. Do you think the semi-annual sale was smashing success? I wish there was one more PCE or FB coupon

Don't think it's a smashing success.....

I think I'm more ticked at coach for not giving their customers a heads up about the last pce than I am about the fact that they are stopping them all together. I can't see how the current sale could be considered a smashing success, unless the second phase of it is offered at a much better discount.

I feel the same way, I don't think Coach will be in my budget come Fall with their planned changes. I don't think I'll like the Vever's stuff but that's OK because I'm not the demographic that they're going after so I'm getting as much stuff now as I can.

That is really smart. I like the Poppy idea. I don't know when their outlets started opening, but perhaps they were too early in the outlet market. Back 15 or 20 years ago, outlets really were for clearance and last-season merchandise. MFF didn't exist, so no need to have a different name. The market shifted and they failed to separately brand the lower-priced goods, which would've protected their FP line.

This. I've been working in retail on the outlet side for about 14 years now. No matter the company, outlets are always a completely different beast than regular price stores. Outlet clientele (generally) are not concerned as much with quality of the product as they are with price. I see this every single day at my store. However, they're also the bigger money-makers for most mid-tier brands.

Several premier brands have successfully opened outlet locations, such as Burberry and Prada, in a new mall close to me which is geared more towards a higher end clientele. However, if Burberry opened an outlet store in every single outlet mall, they would end up needing to fit their product to that market. Customers in my mall, for instance, would not see a $1500 price tag as a "sale" no matter the product.

What I'm trying to say is, Coach created their future when they expanded as much as they did into outlets. If they were like any other company and solely profit-driven, they would see outlet sales figures, and amp up that end of the business. The Coach outlet at my mall still has lines outside the door on weekends, so they're still doing something right on that end. To change their business structure so severely, and feel the need to alienate their outlet customers, suggests to me there is a HUGE underlying issue that Coach is not addressing. I have a feeling closing 70 stores is only the beginning. JMHO.
