For those who would like to know, the Lady Dior chams are made of palladium. They coat that surface with either a gold or silver finish. That's the info the nice customer service lady in Paris told me.

When I asked a while ago they told me the same, but after really pushing they told me one of the metals is palladium but they wouldn't say palladium 500 or 950 so it's really not entirely made out of palladium. Some old bracelets and earrings I have are brass.
Best is to take it to a jeweler or inspect signs of any number in the jewelry while you are in the store

Hi! I created an account for this because I'm desperate. My old vintage Dior clutch has storage stains and I'm not too sure how to get them out. Would rubbing it with baby wipes/toothpaste work or do I have to send it to a professional? It's made from coated canavs I believe, from the 1980s.

I would try cleaning it with a bit of soap and water on a white rag, and drying it after with a white drying cloth (or any neutral-colour cloth that has no risk of transferring colour). Avoid wetting the leather because that can damage it. If the stains don't lighten, then perhaps bring this to a professional and see what they can do.

Good morning ladies!

I have been bequeathed a black canvas Lady Dior from my dearest friend who died recently. I remember her husband purchasing the bag for her at CdG airport in Paris during a trip there in the 1990's. It has been stored in her dressing room in it's dust cover for many years and I don't recall her using it very much at all. It has the dreaded 'stickiness' which I have treated very gently with a damp cloth and a little pure hand soap and this has improved the tacky feeling. TBH I don't mind that it is a little soiled due to it's age but I want to make sure I preserve it for the future. I will use it more frequently too.

Should I keep it in the dust cover or let it breathe a little first for a short time?

This is my first Dior bag! I have fallen in love with it already! Thank you in advance!Lady Dior.jpg

If the dust bag has sticky residue inside, then do not keep it inside. Wash it inside-out first if this is the case. Otherwise, the bag should be stored in a dust bag to prevent dust.

This bag cannot be restored to its original look, but you may be able to get an artist to spray paint it with a matching colour (while covering all the hardware and leather) to refinish the coated canvas and restore the look of the coating.

Happy New Year!!!

I have this vintage barrel bag that I haven’t worn out yet, I’ve only wipe with baby wipes to clean many times over. There are a few imperfections that come with it being vintage that I wonder if I can lighten or make less visible.

1. Seems the white colour from the leather has lifted (but not sure at all). I think the original owner tried to clean it with something and ended up lifting the colour to reveal the purple. Whenever I get the leather pieces wet with the baby wipe, they turn purple but all other spots restore to the white except for these spots:

2. Orange discolouration on the canvas.

3. Piping breaking open

4. Leather straps micro tearing - should I use leather glue to try to prevent any further pull and damage?

Many thanks! There are other smaller things too but I figure that these are the bigger ones and they’re minor enough but mentionable!

This bag is actually in a very poor condition.
1. Yes it appears as though the seller has tried to clean it and removed the colour.
2. This is perhaps from the glue which has slowly migrated out of the seam over time.
3. The piping is supposed to be covered with a thin delicate leather, which is completely missing on your bag. The leather must have worn off over time on the corners and the seller peeled the rest of it off the piping. If you can refund your bag, then I suggest returning it. See the piping on the bags below and you'll see what I mean.

4. You can try to glue it if you want (if you cannot return the bag), but it will still hold the handle in place even if you don't do anything to it. The layers of leather have separated but they don't look like they will break when you pull on the handle.

Thanks so much average Joe. Yeah it’s final sale even though I bought it from a vintage second hand store and not direct from a seller. :( I guess there is nothing I can do to repair anything of the above huh (for discolouration or leather piping). As for the leather handle yes right now it’s strong enough and won’t break, I think then I will add some leather glue to maybe just solidify it some more then. What do you think about the resale value of this bag? It seems like a very rare piece as I can’t find any pictures online of this exact style of design.

The resale value of this piece is very low. Usually between $75-$100 USD based on the condition.

You can take it to a professional leather cobbler who may be able to take the bag apart and replace the piping as well as redye the leather blow. It may cost you hundreds for this so I'm not sure if it is worth it.

Wow I spent quite a bit more on it! Yeah probably wouldn’t make sense to do that then. I’ll just try to appreciate the bag for what it is as it is then.

I'm curious on how to clean or care or does it stand up to wear the dior saddle in the oblique...specifically the versions that have the fabric handle? I'm debating between these too but really love the embroidery one. I have multiple other bags so it won't be an "everyday" bag as I rotate bags but concerned about wear and tear. TIA!
