I recently purchased a second hand Mulberry Bayswater in Oak (approx. 6 years old), she looks a little dry and has some small water stains and i wanted to check i was on the right path with what i am thinking of doing care wise (i have read the thread but some information is a bit contradictory) should i:

1. just use collonil gel and then water stop spray
2. collonil leather cream, collonil gel and then water stop spray.

what do you think?? I'm so confused about what to do!
I'm sure you've already tried sometjing but I'd first use the product for lifting dirt (optional), then gel and finally the spray

Does anyone know how I am meant to treat my mulberry leather bag (in Oak). I have so far avoided taking it out into the rain but is there any way to protect it from water stains?:sweatdrop:

Should I just spray it with the usual leather protector?:shrugs:

All advice appreciated,

Ta!

Hello everyone! Just wondered if any of you that have renovated older Mulberry bags have ever cleaned the webbing?
I've just bought a lovely vintage Darwin oak Euston and although the leather is good, I would like to freshen up the canvas webbing ( I'm not brave enough to wash the whole bag!!)......did wonder about diluted wash liquid and a toothbrush?
Would appreciate any thoughts, comments, advice etc
Have a wonderful Wednesday

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right area to post but thought I’d ask the question. Sorry if this is a really silly one to ask!

Basically, I use the mulberry recommended leather gel on my Lily & Bayswater bag to keep them looking fresh. I need to purchase the waterstop spray too.

I would like to get another mulberry bag to add to my collection, but I’m wondering whether the bags age if you don’t use them that often? Like if they’re used lightly and stored in their dustbags, will the leather still look new or will it age? I like to rotate all my bags.

Will the leather only age if it’s exposed to sunlight, rain etc?

Thank you. Apologies once again if this is really obvious!

It will age anyway since leather is a skin and there's nothing wrong with aging. If you live in dry climate I'd recommend applying some leather milk once or twice a year to prevent cracking.

Oh I see, thank you I didn’t know that. I’m a little bit obsessive with babying my bags and like them to stay nice and new looking. I’ve only got a couple mulberry bags, so maybe I should get my wear out of those first before purchasing any more to add to my collection!

The mulberry addiction is a slippery slope!

I’m debating whether to get a mulberry wallet but I’ve read a lot on this forum about diminished leather quality the past few years. It’s a wallet so I definitely won’t baby it! Do you have any insight into the leather quality?

Hi Hun,

I’m also thinking of getting either a regular purse or coin purse. I don’t know whether to wait till the Xmas sales (I’m in no rush) or whether to purchase from Cheshire oaks or one of the outlets for a cheaper price.

I’ve heard the leather quality has diminished since Johnny took over mulberry a few years ago. I read somewhere that the old leather was much higher quality and the Lily’s were lined with suede interior, whereas now it’s microfibre but at a steeper price. I still love the brand, but thinking of purchasing from coach as I think they have a similar style.

I've also read on this forum about the bad quality of the new leathers but I couldn't disagree more! I bought a small maple in the new oxblood leather and it has looked pristine for a year now despite a lot of use and rain. And it holds its shape much better than the old NVT. Perhaps some of the others reviewers got a bad batch of leather or something.

Hi all,
I have a Bayswater Tote that I bought a year ago which I use as my work bag, the otherday I put a bottle of water in it but forgot to check the lid was fully on.....it wasn't....

Luckily the water damage is contained to the inside and not soaked through to the outside leather (a mistake I did 2 years ago with a red Marc Jacobs bag :( Really should have learnt my lesson).

My question is, is there any way I can clean the suede inner? It is now a bit harder than the remainder of the bag and is a distinct darker colour. The day it happened I took it to a well respected leather cleaner in the City I live and it took them 2 days to get back to me and proceeded to talk to me about oil stains (???) which made me doubt their credibility and standard of work, so any immediate work on this has long gone.

Thank you xx

What about contacting handbag clinic?

I haven’t used them before so maybe other people on the forum can share experiences.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned I live in the UAE . Contacted the only mulberry store here who can’t do anything so bit stuck.

Wish I was still in the UK, feel like I could have sent it somewhere like the handbag clinic and it would be sorted.

Hi!

When I've had a stain on one of my mulberries, I usually try and dab the area with a wet microfibre cloth to try and blend the watermark in, and it generally blends a little better when it's dry.

As you have mentioned, the stain is inside the bag? Is the suede interior the same colour, or contrasting to the main colour of your bag? If the interior of your bag is suede, you can use a 'nubuck cleaning block' (Collonil do actually make a nubuck cleaning block) which is designed to gently clean suede without leaving marks. I have also used one of these very successfully - but the trick is to rub the block gently so you don't damage the suede grain. This method has worked for me, but as always, if you are going to try this, do try it on a small discreet tester spot on the suede before proceeding to clean the entire affected area. I do hope this advice helps you!:flowers:
