Ooops you have to be careful with these bags. Didn't think sunscreen would do that though! Check out the first aid thread in the reference library.

As for me I spray with Collonil spray and lots of love. This is why I only go for dark colours with bags now - learnt my lesson with a very expensive colour bag that now has denim dye on it :(

you should send it to furnitureclinic if you google them youll find the website. they can help with problems like this.

normally though i spray my bags with collonil water stop. some of my bags i have used the collonil gel. collonil products are the best.

Curling flaps in Bayswaters or Ledburys
I believe this tip came from MM.
Put the bag down so the closing flap is flat on the floor. Place a bag full of crushed ice cubes in a TIGHTLY sealed bag and put this on the flap, I prefer the inside. Think this frightens the pants of the flap and its scared to do anything but freeze flat! Not sure why it works but it seems to. You have to leave it for a few hours (so I am saying this again and again: TIGHTLY sealed bag).

My hubby has an ice pack for sports injuries that we keep in the freezer. It's totally sealed so maybe a safer option than ice in a bag? Probably need some weight on it to replicate this trick. Will give it a try and report back.

You should definitely spray with Collonil to protect the bag from rain and dirt like others have advised.
Regarding the strap, instead of contacting the furniture clinic for a repair, consider contacting Mulberry for a replacement strap, I don't think they're that expensive.

Spraying seems so smart and sensible. But I can't readily access any Collonil and don't trust any other spray just in case something dire happens. So, I've never sprayed. In fact, I've not done a thing to most of my bags, just loads of TLC.

I use the Collonil spray on all my bags and on the Choc Bays, Black Led and EW I also use the Gell. They have been fine.

So far I have only sprayed the Oak Greta and Black Hayden and only used a couple of times so far.:p

If, like me, you are silly enough to think that protecting your cheap dining room table is a good thing when waterproofing your beloved Mulberry then beware the consequences.

I used a carrier bag to cover the table and put my bag on top, then discovered the dye from the carrier had come off on my bag

Here's how to fix it. You will need:
hairspray
cotton buds
baby wipes/damp cloth

Spray the hairspray on to the cotton bud and quickly wipe over the dye. Then wipe over the area with the baby wipe to get rid of the hairspray.

Repeat on all affected areas then allow to dry overnight. Nourish with appropriate product (I have the cream) then waterproof.

Alternatively, learn from my mistake!

This is a great thread. I have a choc bays I need to treat before I use it, so I have looked through all the posts on here. I also have a choc somerset tote that I got last year and didn't treat - didn't know about tpf then - so will also do that one.

So it's gel then waterstop - just gotta find the products now.

Thanks for all the tips ladies, I'll know where to come if I have any problems. The one that really bothers me is filling the bag with water - seriously scary:shocked:

:confused1:
I'm a little confused now. I have just found some Collonil, but there are different colours. I have a choc somerset and a choc bays, so should I use the brown waterstop on them? I also have a cream araline, so need a neutral colour as well, so would rather get just one spray, but will get the brown too if it will really make a difference.

I gather it's best to put a couple of light layers on before using the bag, but how often might it need ro be topped up do you think? I looked through the posts, but not sure there's a definitive answer to this. Also is it best to gell all bags before waterstop - or just certain ones?

Thanks for the help ladies!
