When I got my first AG bag, I phoned Mulberry for care advice. They said I shouldn't use any products at all, just buff it occasionally with the dustbag - then stand back & admire!

I have never used anything on my AG Bays, I've had it for years and used it a lot - even in the rain. Stll looks great, no problems with the leather at all. No collonil, no leather cream, just wipingg it off with a dry cloth if it gets wet.

I use a leather protector spray with sunscreen - BMW & Mercedes use it for protecting leather seats from fading.

It is the UVA rays that plays havoc with the green/blue & pink/plum dyes especially - it breaks down the chemical compound in the dyes.

This had prevented colour change 100% to my plum, verdigris & ginger AG.

Hope this helps

Wow, that's interesting.

Ellie, you are The Oracle!

Presumably that spray would also prevent colour change in the darwin colours which are prone to fading too, for example, olive?

I love this product:

I have used it on dried out Darwin and NVT with a great result!

Hi everyone,

I have a black Jacquetta that I spayed with the Collonil waterstop when I first bought it (from the factory shop) as recommended.

I would now like to give it a more nourishing treatment to keep the leather in good nick. What would you recommend? Do you think a leather cream would be a good idea?

And - maybe this is heretical, I am not sure! - what about black shoe polish? I have a really fancy one I bought for some great boots I got in Florence, but I am a bit nervous about putting it on my beloved handbag.

Thank you for your help!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the tips and clarify a few things for a complete beginner.

I have a pre-loved Smithfield in relatively good condition but I have no idea whether it's been treated - I suspect not. I had wanted to take it to work with me tomorrow, but as rain is forecast I think I'll keep it at home until I know it'll be safe. So to be sure it has good moisture protection I need to:

use Collonil gel to clean first
spray with Collonil water protection spray

Is that correct?

It also has bent up straps so will try the ice trick once I'm confident it's protected from the outside.

This forum is great! Thanks for all the tips

Sorry, another from me. Did someone mention a Clarks' product? I could get to a Clarks tomorrow. What is it for? Can I use it instead of the oil?

Also, I have some suede protector spray. My bag is unlined inside, would it be too drastic to use this spray to protect it from marks? It's pretty immaculate right now.

TIA for any advice

Premium leather cream from Clarks to clean & nourish is good. BUT only use a little and buff off well. Although I have recently been using Colonil gel which nourishes and waterproofs and leaves no residue. It won't hurt to spray in addition to the gel - but again not too much in one go. Several lighter sprays rather than a drenching.

That's great, thanks. Am struggling to source Collonil on the high street and want to get my bag treated/protected and into use pronto, so will go and get some Clarks stuff tomorrow.

Thanks Slowhand

I am curious how do you take care of your Mulberry bag.
Do you spray any protectant? What product do you use? Do you think it's effective?

I was stupid to use my Alexa during my vacation in Bali. Now part of the strap is ruined by the sunscreen I put on my shoulder. I took it to cleaner and was told it's not clear whether they can restore the color since the sunscreen is absorbed into the leather.

Anything I can do?
