I have been wearing Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, Ralph Lauren Collection etc. for years. These clothes are beautifully made. Some of them are just as well made on the inside as they are on the outside. Especially Oscar de la Renta when Mr. de la Renta was still alive. The fabrics and finishings are luxurious. However, in my opinion , nothing compares to some of the Chanel Métiers collections. The Lesage fabrics, embroideries, buttons etc are sublime. This is what Chanel should be all about. Unfortunately, the logo driven, mass produced items generate bigger margins for Chanel.

I am just starting to notice Oscar de la Renta. I have always liked it but never had much occasion to buy it but we moved and we are in a climate more conducive to wearing it. I got this on sale for a fundraiser:

I think it's the embroideries...
@880 @PassionChanel I'm not wealthy enough to buy my entire wardrobe in high end brands, so I tend to buy basics from everyday brands like Jcrew and occasionally Zara (Zara is great for very trendy but short-lived fashion). Some of the House specialties can't be replaced by others/cheaper brands, such as the Birkin, the Bar jackets and the Chanel tweed jackets. I splurge on these and buy basics elsewhere.

I think Karl over the years has made the tweed jackets much more sophisticated and complicated, so I can see how prices inflate. I'm not rich enough to pay $5k for velvet joggers, so I don't even look at them. If I need joggers I can just go to Alo. I guess I'm just very compartmentalized in these things...
@Brooklynite, I don’t think it’s entirely a question of money that some of us won’t buy 6K joggers. Esp after @pigleto972001 introduced all of us to Vuori  My favorite blouse of all time (the one that makes me feel thin, in the years I can button it, is a Zara blouse from probably ten years ago? It has perfect proportions, or rather it makes me look as if I have perfect proportions.

This. It is also a matter of principle to me. I don’t feel that it is necesssry to spend xxxk on something if I can find a quality replacement at a lower price point. Blouses are one item where I find that there are many quality brands that work perfectly well with my Chanel jackets. The same with pants. I have been fortunate to have saved my high waisted pants from years ago from Armani, Bernard Zins and Chanel, and they still fit, and are classic styles. @Hanash you’re quite right that they give you a longer leaner look and the Chanels that I have all have a side zip with a flat front. I have supplemented here and there with a trendier piece, but nothing excessively priced and all under $500. It certainly is more creative to mix and match and pair high and low. The only places where I insist on top quality are shoes and handbags. Those two items will elevate any outfit.

Hi ladies! I’ve been catching up on this thread after dealing with some health issues. Have really enjoyed reading all your posts!
So, had to share this amazing find and it’s certainly relevant to the new prices discussion.
This classic cashmere cardigan is from 13P. The original tags with two spare buttons and two colors of spare thread are still attached!
It’s a beautiful 4 pocket in a rose pink trimmed with soft white and white CC buttons.
It’s literally in perfect condition. I almost don’t want to try it on!
I grabbed it when listed on TRR for $995 (listed in excellent condition instead of pristine, btw, with no mention of the tags).
Compare that to a similar cardi from 20A with a price of $5100.
I’m really loving the pre-loved finds!!

Congrats!!! That’s a fantastic find!

And here’s a brand new dress from 12A with tags in my favorite color, purple!
This has a really lovely neckline and flattering sleeve length.
These are actual turnlock CC’s as buttons in purple!!
And it was $725 on TRR.
So, while I did just purchase a new jacket (which I hope to post when it arrives tomorrow), I’m a fan of mixing the old with the new!
The quality and construction is excellent and at a fraction of the new prices!
