@shopgirl bb, a chanel jacket for 995? Cannot be USD?

A bit OT (I think it would fall under the chit chat portion of the thread) but if this is inappropriate, mods should delete.

My own style is neither in fashion, nor out of fashion, but some strange area in between. But Id love the opinions of the members on this thread as to a prevailing silhouette going forward into 2022.

My mom (who is slimmer than I am and very youthful) was considering the chanel velvet joggers (at least until I told her about the lack of longevity) but she now says that leggings are back (as per a bergdorf email she received that featured Theory leggings. I would not have paid much attention, but she was also grumbling to me about her recent purchase of Dior apples and roses cigarette pants that she bought and a midi tulle skirt. The Dior pants were cropped (she feels like pajamas). To support my position, I quoted an article in FT ”Taper Tantrum; French Women Bid Adieu to the Skinny Jean,” which seems to signal anti legging trends. It mentioned mini skirts wi volume; leather shorts; cargo pants; baggy jeans. As per Dior and BC, baggy pants are cropped to show off the skinny ankle (But chanel jogger look seems to be long and flowing)

We’re also debating bc earlier this year, there was an article in the WSJ about leggings dating a woman (implying older wo,en are wed or stuck on leggings. She was dubious about my justification that the cropped baggy pants have paper bag waists and higher rises, rendering them very different from a long flowy draped pant; her POV is more practical, like why cannot the tailor at chanel or Dior just hem up the excess to let down once the style changes.

I buy whatever looks good to me, and the fit, silhouette, and length of pants, dresses, and skirts shifts depending on the outfit and occasion, but there may not be a rhyme or reason except what looks like to my aesthetic. Plus, leggings make me lumpy, so it would be nice to have some definitive rule lol.

I do wear some skinny jeans, usually with a longer jacket and doc martens (here an old pair of waxed denim with chanel sweater and sale jacket 21P or thereabouts)

Since I am not built like a supermodel and am half the height of one, I basically cannot dress in the latest fashion, whatever it may be, as it constantly changes. I choose and stick to what suits my figure and my lifestyle with occasional forages into new territory. My main mantra is if I am comfortable, I tend to look a lot better. That means nothing too tight, not much of high heels. I am pretty sure 100% of my Chanel/ Dior and Hermes pieces are comfortable for me. And I do wear leggings.

Not sure about the second hand market price for vintage jackets. Just quoting the photo only that it is a Chanel jacket.

I love this topic 880. I want to discuss this in the context of Chanel.

To me, the most interesting change in fashion of late is the waistline. It changes the proportion dramatically (for the better, IMHO). I've been turning over my closet and buying high waisted jeans and pants nonstop since I'm out of the COVID hiatus. Skinny or wide, I want the waist line to be high.

I agree with you and Periogirl that we should mostly look for what suit us rather than what's hot at the moment. 880, I think leggings just work with Docs and combat boots, and they are a wardrobe staple. I look at Chanel's offerings dating back to 2000s or even 1999s, the wide legged pants have always been around. I also agree that the hem should be kept flexible in case trend changes - in reality, I have maxi pants long and short.

I also learned a lot during my TRR journey. I sold some rarely worn pieces on TRR at a tiny fraction of what I paid for, because, for instance, Fendi cashmere trousers with boning. They are uncomfortable! As I age, I think I know my body better, so I now tend to buy things that work for me, rather than in fashion. I've got lots of Balenciaga early/mid 2000s rock chic looks in my closet, so I now mostly purchase feminine looks. I'm cynical when it comes to fashion writers - to generate clicks, they will have to make some bold announcements. Kudos to them and it works, except that I've passed my Carrie Bradshaw age and I now care less about fashion pundits' opinions

I like discussing this topic here, because talking about Chanel rtw in a generic style thread might come across as less thoughtful? I like mixing Chanel with Zara and jcrew, so I want to find a place where we can talk about it.

+1000, @Brooklynite and thanks! I would be very interested to learn how you might combine your balenciaga with today’s chanel. . . I collect moto jackets, and I was wondering if I should release a Rick Owens moto Or a valentino ruched leather jacket (possibly circa 1990s) but then decided I could wear them with a chanel boucle skirt. . . .

The recent Metiers has Renaissance as the backdrop right? Balenciaga SS2006 was precisely the same Renaissance theme, so they work well together.
I can also see you pair a boucle skirt with a silk top...then a light coat?

Hi there! I'm new to Chanel (am preparing to make my first handbag purchase) and was wondering if anybody knows if there is a price increase coming up?
Just so I know if I should start hunting my dream bag sooner rather than later..

Thank you in advance!

Funny you mentioned Rick Owens - but pulled out my patchwork leather wool mohair RO jacket and am determined to wear it this week - I’ll be in an early snow mountain climate this week-
Personally I find most RO jackets classic -
I’d say per VV’s Chanel, the 1990s are having a moment ;-)

@TankerToad, do pls post an action pic of you and the Rick owens! Would love to see it in combination with your usual stuff!

Hi @tam0o , I thought I read that there would be a price increase Nov 1, 2021, but I don’t keep up with CF prices. You might find what you are looking for on one of these threads rather than this RTW clothing thread (I found them by searching with key words chanel price increase in the search bar, upper right magnifying glass icon)

or you can try via season, like these threads:

note: if you are in a certain area, like chanel Singapore, or chanel Australia, for example, I believe there are dedicated threads
that cover geographic regions too.
