For me I think it was a combination of practical choices (get a black Kelly and a gold Birkin) and emotional choices (falling in love with a color) and as I used bags more and more I started to learn what worked best for me. I know the K28 and B35 are my favorites of the iconic bags and that the Evelyne and GP are super useful for me. Once I knew styles and sizes I reached for most I focused on the ideal color/leather combinations.

Now it's just refining....the gold Clemence B finds a new home so I can add Barenia B as a forever bag, etc. There are a few grails I would not say no to (box with guilloche is one), but with a bunch of outstanding orders I am pretty much "done" unless one of those SOs doesn't work for me.

I buy what my heart desires. My first H is a BBK 32 with GHW. I decided to order this as my graduation gift as it would be a timeless classic. I didn't need it at all, being 22 back then (and still don't "need" it in that sense as I have a very casual lifestyle), but am very glad I have it in my collection. Afterwards I wanted a B and it took me 2 years to get offered my first one as a walk-in. Back then all I wanted was a B in a strong colour, preferentially a turquoise shade. I was offered an Ultraviolet, which I immediately took as it had the perfect balance between neutral and pop colour and I still couldn't believe I finally scored a B... My third (Evelyne) was actually quite a spontaneous purchase. At that time I've been lusting for a turquoise B for a long long time and Bleu Izmir was the current obsession. When I saw an Evie in that colour online at H I had to have it... it's probably my most used H as it is so practical, but my heart was still not quite happy as I missed my UHG, a turquoise B in my life. Well, 5 months ago I finally got very very lucky at FSH... see my avatar lol.

But as mentioned, the orange slope is slippery :p while I adore my UHG and use it as much as possible it's not the most practical, being a B and quite heavy. So I'm currently eyeing a pre-loved Evie in a certain leather, which would be perfect for travelling... no real need again, as I could use the other Evie lol

What a lovely story! I'm so happy that you finally got what you originally wanted. That also gives me hope about my dream pink birkin. With pink (shocking, azalee, confetti and basically any pink) I've had no luck. But meanwhile I'm building a super nice rainbow of b

Interesting topic will love to hear more journeys...

Wished i gave it more thought when i started buying bags. I used to JUMP AT every bag that was offered by my SA haha. It took alot of trial and error (couple of costly ones) to finally figure out what style and importantly SIZE work for me. As for color... used to want to own a rainbow of H colors but realise some colors just sat in the wardrobe. Sometimes a popular and "hot" color that looks fab on others just didnt get used. So i am one of those who buy different bags in the same color esp neutrals like black, etoupe, gris t etc that i know i will reach for all the time. I love pop colors as well but am more specific in terms of which bag i want in those colors.

Now i know which style/size works guess my wishlist is whichever color sings to me every season. I will play with the color in the store for a few times before deciding. Love variety of colors in the same bag style and confess i cannot stop at a set number of bags so the wishlist is never ending. My latest deliberation/wishlist is...... malachite.
Uhhh I love malachite too!! I think it's a nice pop but still "neutral" so I think you will enjoy it!

I first went for the color. After buying LV for so many years, it was refreshing to have all these colors at my fingertips. So, I first bought all the colors I wanted, many times from resellers as the nearest boutique was several hours away, and they had what I wanted. Eventually, I transitioned to functional use, meaning what will work for my lifestyle and let me carry what I need to carry from situation to situation. Made a few mistakes, ones I loved in pictures didn't work in real world application [emoji17]. I find now the pop colors I craved in the early days don't much appeal to me anymore, and like several others have noted, I tend to pick neutrals and more muted colors these days. The brighter shades tend to come out on certain occasions, but the neutral ones come out more frequently. I chalk it up to rebelling against a lot of brown from my LV days lol.

Thank you for your story. Sometimes things just do not fit our needs or lifestyle, even if we love them.

Hi ladies,

I'm really curious about how do you choose your next bag and how do you build you h collection.

Do you have a wishlist? Do you consider more what you "need" for your lifestyle or what your heart desire at the moment? For me, I would say, it's a mix of the 2. I love pink and at the moment I would love to have an azalee birkin.
Some of my friends planned in advance what kind of colors they wanted in their collection, others just buy what they need. Someone prefers certain colors and have multiple bags in that color scale, others prefer to have all different colors. It's a very personal choice, but I think it's fascinating how everyone makes different choices.

So, How do you choose?? What do you think about it?

Thank you
xxx

I pick the styles of bags that I would like to have overtime and then go after very specific colors. I don't have a wishlist. Just tell my SA which color I am looking for every quota period. Now that I am nearing the completion of my bag collection I am also becoming super specific about the the bag style and size along with the color.

Never give up! At the end it boils down to which shades H is producing at the time you're asking. And they repeat all the time. I'd love a piece in rose shocking as well

thanks for bringing back this thread. I'm a H newbie and actually started a similar thread couple months ago while contemplating my collection and searching for the ultimate pop color. Thanks to all the advices from wonderful ladies here (so many of them responded earlier too! :hbeat:), it really helps me narrow down and think over the key pieces I need in my capsule. Saves me tons of money/sweat, as getting a B/K is NOT an easy task!

My strategy so far is to focus on classic colors/sizes for B/K, those I know I will love for life and pass down, so far I have etain and gold, still hunting for a black and the ultimate pop color!

I got non-B/Ks to fill in gaps for functional use and my color urges, so now I have an army of those semi-classic neutrals: argile, origano, sauge and black canvas. I'm such a neutral/muted color person making the choice of pop color extra hard...

I really agree about the difficulty of choosing a pop color, but once you get into them you will find they are the "new neutral" as many of the wonderful ladies here have attested. H does especially amazing bright colors and in general I find myself reaching for pop color bags more often than neutrals. But IMO one's bag collection should make one happy and calm, not stressed about whether it's "right" or "complete" (is any collection ever complete?).

So true! Red, blue, violet ecc.. are neutrals to me! I wear them easily everyday.

I lost an incredible amount of weigh two years ago, basically another small child hahaha and started over from scratch with my closet. Choosing high quality pieces... quality over quantity. Now 75 pieces strong I have almost the closet that works for every need.

With that being said I’ve decided to cap myself at 10 hermes bags total.

I’d like to detail my current bag collection and what on my wishlist and ask that you help me fill in the blanks for a perfect bag collection. It’s always good to hear the thoughts of others for things I may not have considered. In general my lifestyle during the week is filled with multiple site visits. I don’t go anywhere without my MacBook. I got out in the evening both for business and pleasure a few times a month. I have small children but none in diapers.

Current collection:
1. K28 retourne Togo vert cypres GHW
2. B30 Faubourg Barenia GHW
3. Halzan 31 noir GHW
4. Evelyne PM Gris Asphalte GHW
5. Evelyne PM Vert Vertigo PHW
6. K32 Natural Sable Retourne GHW(vintage and considering rehoming)

On Wishlist:
7. B30 Malachite GHW
8. K25 Sellier noir PHW
9. A special order sellier k25 in rose p
10. Roulis 23 Vert Verone permabrass.

This would leave me with 1-2 addition since I plan to rehome the k32 at some point and an SO is certainly not guaranteed. I’ve considered a bag with rghw but not sure if black or a lighter color makes a more well rounded collection and a Jige.

If this is something you are thinking about feel free to put yours here so we can all build little capsule collections. Haha
