Well, older bags are more likely to be Box calf. New bags in Box are actually quite a bit more expensive than, say, Togo, and are rare.
Box is not for everyone. It is a heritage leather. This thread and Ode to Box Calf will tell you a lot.
But I'd say the high-end resale marketed is dominated by buyers who want less of a collector bag and more of a "normal" bag (no disrespect intended) and don't want to play boutique games.

Box is certainly not stiff, as you might describe Hunter.
However I understand what you mean.
You do often see it used in more structured items.
It holds shape well, but I would say it is soft to the touch and it does have the characteristic of building up the most amazing patina. Black is seen a lot, but do look out for Raisin, Rouge H and Noisette.
You will find a very special bag sooner than you might think.

Yes she got a major overhaul.
All hardware are replaced (thus also explains her double hook). Top handle is new. This part that secures the hook (urm not sure of the anatomy name of it ). Also ordered a new shoulder strap. This was all done about 2yrs ago.

Also, a few weeks ago I saw a lovely lady with a K28 in box, either Rouge H or burgundy, with matching suede knee high boots and it was divine!

Thank you, PJW! I do look at these bags with a different set of eyes than others and the older they are the more I admire them. She’s is the bag with the most Hermès history I own: a heritage leather, in one of their oldest and most iconic styles and in a classic H color. I’m truly honored to have her

But you can also enjoy it whilst it matures!

The new shoulder strap is a great choice - brings it right into the 21st century too.
