My 1962 K32 who is out this week. Haven’t used her enough lately but this week is her turn.

WOW .. 1962 kelly  Was there any kind of 'refurbishment' on the handle area?

Yes she got a major overhaul.
All hardware are replaced (thus also explains her double hook). Top handle is new. This part that secures the hook (urm not sure of the anatomy name of it :p ). Also ordered a new shoulder strap. This was all done about 2yrs ago.

how are your experiences with box leathers? especially the vintage ones? I know they are prone to scratches, but does it fade out in time?? I am planning to get a kelly 28 but the preowned ones I see are mostly box. Thanks!

If you read enough of this thread, in particular, and also read DocRide's postings about the care of box leather in the Reference threads, you should have no concererns and be confident that you will be on the lookout for one of the best vintage leather Hermes bags available.

I would read through this thread, see the wear or lack of wear on the many older bags posted here, and search through Docride's leather care thread. Basically Box does scratch but eventually scratched blend in - you have to love the leather as smooth, scratchable leathers are not for everyone.

Yes I am learning a lot with this thread and I definitely will find the threads about Docride. Thanks for the info guys!

I am loving this thread ❤️

I’d love to know what box leather feels like - it looks stiff and uncomfortable to me - however I am quite drawn to it when photos are posted.

I’m toying the thought of a Birkin or Kelly preloved. (No Hermes in my collection yet) and for some reason a older, worn but in good condition bag really appeals to me. There seems to be a lot of box leather bags on the preloved Hermes market, and often at very decent prices. Can anyone fill me in why prices seem to be lower for box leather than the other more “popular” leathers?

Thanks so much!

Well, older bags are more likely to be Box calf. New bags in Box are actually quite a bit more expensive than, say, Togo, and are rare.
Box is not for everyone. It is a heritage leather. This thread and Ode to Box Calf will tell you a lot.
But I'd say the high-end resale marketed is dominated by buyers who want less of a collector bag and more of a "normal" bag (no disrespect intended) and don't want to play boutique games.
