From the looks of it, certain pieces of fettuce are laser-cut to create the "flake" effect. Scaglie is Italian for "flakes".

As seen below on the Milk Intrecciato Scaglie Cervo Bag and the Assenzio Scaglie Ostrich Tote (also comes in Camp; and an ostrich cross-body version in Nero)

A close-up pic of the scaglie effect... and while this is an ostrich bag, you can see the partial perforation together with the loose piece of leather since most of the flakes are located toward the top of the tote

Weave/treatment done on S/S 2011 Knots and select nappa cross body bags. As you can see from below, a gross grain ribbon is dipped in ink/paint on both edges then stuck/placed on top of standard fettuce for additional texture.

Available in 3 color combinations:

Milk/Vermillion

Onde is plural for "onda" which is derived from the Latin/Italian term for "wave". As you can see from below, 2 kinds of snakeskin (ayers and karung) are used to create this knot. Both skins are connected together by a visible stich and the random weaving of the fettuce creates some sort of "wave effect" on the surface.

This style comes in both classic and stretch knot varieties. 3 color variants (not in photo Moro/Nero)

After the scaglie, there's also:

Rete - each fettuce strip is made to look like a net. Pictured below in Hay

Smaltato (Italian for enamelled)

This bag is constructed the same way as the Resort 2010-2011 Vernice Lambskin Python Tote (what others here call the mini cabat replacement). It's made of tubes of leather that are woven together tightly creating a slightly bunched effect. An additional material is brushed/applied on top of the bag to give it it's enamelled effect.

Pictured below is the Buttermilk Light Titanium Intreccio Smaltato Bag

A non-woven Roma for Spring/Summer 2011 with an interesting treatment - black varnish is applied on lambskin to give it a faded, vintage effect.

We first saw BV use fringe effect on some S/S 2010 bags. Here's the sfrangiato interpretation for Resort 2010-2011. Pictured below is Matita (and Assenzio) Sfrangiato tote. The same effect is used on the Cruise goatskin knot (double-sided fettuce with a fringe on top) that came in 5 colors (Matita, Assenzio, Magma, Empire, Lagoon).

The Perlier treatment involves inserting metal beads under each individual fettuce adding extra texture. Apart from the knot, this treatment is also done on a wallet and zip card case.

TDL, there are some shoes I have my eyes on with the Perlier, too! Thank you so much for all the help you've been in growing this thread!

"Treccia" - Italian for braid.

From the close-up pics, you'll see that this Cabat is made by first taking 3 strips of fettuce (light titanium in ayers, titanium in lamb, dark titanium in lamb) and intertwining them in a braid. Once done, the resulting strand is deemed as a "single strip of fettuce" that is then woven in the usual intrecciato weave making this a super thick and durable piece of art. I've seen structured and durable Cabats before but this one is the thickest I've seen in terms of sheer texture. And remember, Cabats are double-layered bags unlike other styles that's lined in suede on one side and woven on the other.
