doloresmia, thank you for the lovely pictures and wealth of information. I like the plisse so much better in blue than black...it's really pretty. For some reason, I'm not a fan of gradating colors in anything; clothing, accessories, home goods but I can appreciate the workmanship that went into that cabat.

Bryan is very good to us!

I agree on the cabat, i have a feeling it is pretty amazing in real life, but i need to see it!

Gasp! This bag is just gorgeous! I'm sure that it doesn't come in a mini, right? :graucho: This is too lovely a colour. I wonder if it will come in other bags/ slgs?

Doloresmia, can you please shed some light on if it'll come in other forms? :smile1:

This is from Bryan

The entire Scarabeo model is made in Vitellino Lisse, enhanced by a new technique. The Fettuccia used is padded at the center to intensify the iridescent effect. The name Scarabeo was chosen because of the final effect reminiscing a scarab's shade and color variations. The special iridescent effect enhancing the top of the bag, along with the handles, is done through a long [handmade] process: a metallic pearly color is sprayed on to create the iridescent effect [color changes depending on the exposure to the light], then multiple passages are required for the iridescent look and then again to fix it and create the glazed effect.

Extremely hard to capture and more beautiful IRL i am told!

My friend bought the scarabeo cabat today and it is stunning. The photos do not capture the iridescence of the leather - the shading is subtle but dramatic. It is a wonderful piece of work.

A new treatment for Cruise 2010/2011... "Corda" means rope in Italian. As you can see from the phone pics below, small slits are cut in the middle of the fettuce creating a window where the cord can be inserted for added texture. The Cabat was available in this style.

Here's an example of the F/W 2010 snakeskin and papier combo. BV used this type of treatment on stretch knots (4 color combinations... Ink/Pyrite shown here. Others include Nero/Pyrite, Bitter/Pyrite and Bottle/Pyrite) as well as some SLGs and bug clutches (Flannel/Smog and Carbonne). Leather fettuce is placed on top of shiny papier material (mylar according to jburgh) and sewn in place with the marcapunto stich in the middle.

Tratteggiato is very similar to the Corda treatment seen in post #113. Here, the slits are cut in fewer segments of the leather and it appears more random. The Tratteggiato Roma from Resort 10/11 is shown in the Chene color.

Traforato - Italian for perforated or punctured. The Camp tote below from the upcoming Men's Spring/Summer 2011 collection is an example of this treatment done on leather. There are also a couple of Women's S/S '11 bags that have this style. Refer to the S/S '11 thread for pictures.

Effiloche - French term for frayed, unravelled.

The "chia pet" treatment on the new S/S 2011 BV bags have a name! As stated on the BV website: "the classic nappa Veneta (or Cabat or wallet) has canvas fused to the interior bag and then pulled through, allowing the fray to come through the fettuce and create a tactile, three-dimensional effect."

A close-up of the effiloche treatment:
