Beware of the super fakes

I am mostly a lurker here, but this was a very interesting thread. My sister in law purchases super fakes, after years and years of purchasing only authentic pieces. She pays over $1000 for some of them, which (to me at least) seems absurd. I am not an expert in handbags, so I cannot say how close to the real thing they are, but I will say that the leather is quite good.
If it is not against forum rules, would I be allowed to post pictures of some of her bags?

I'm super curious to see if you would kindly PM them to me! Thanks =)

Sure, I will take pictures when I see her on sunday and post them :)

Hi, I'm very curious too. I'm from Vietnam where we have fake bags everywhere (literally almost everyone wears Gucci/LV fake bags). I have had looked at some of the super fakes in my country and it can't be compared to the real deal, even the ones made with real leather/handmade/etc. Something about them just seem really off and you can kind of tell that they are not real if placed next to a real one. Please post pics of your sister's bag :D

Here are some pictures taken with my iphone, so they are not the best quality. The leather on the black bag has a slight gloss to it, but i think due to the flash it looks super shiny. Its is no where near this shiny irl.

At a glance, probably most people may not notice from the photos - not sure how real or fake the bags look in real life.

But on closer observation:
The shape of the bags are a little misshappen, quite obvious for the black one on the left bottom corner.
The quilts do not line up.
Also, the hardware of the ring holes (what are these called, grommets?) is too raised (should be more aligned with the leather, not popping up too much) and too small (barely fits the metal & leather chains, not much room for the chains to move through).

Are these considered super fakes?

I convinced my mom to buy a classic caviar WOC with gold hardware from Heathrow. I'd spent months telling her how exclusive and classic it was, and she was so excited to get it, especially after the Chanel boutique in Chicago said there was like a 1-2 year waiting list.

Anyway, she wore the bag during the day at a family wedding, and her aunt took one look at it and said, "Oh, I have the exact same bag (fake), but I got it for fifty bucks". Apparently, the leather and everything was exact and it came with an authenticity card. I think it made my mom feel bad to think she spent so much for something that wasn't really unique.

I'm pretty sure for fifty bucks it can't be the exact same stuff. A good knock-off maybe, but that is it. If you can put them side by side, you will probably notice tons of little details that make the difference.
I would not brag about owning a counterfeit :nogood: Your mom, with your help, took a wise - and timeless - decision!

Awww your poor mum, I can imagine how she felt. my cousin said the same thing to me when she saw my classic flap and I just replied with i prefer to carry genuine designer bags which will last my lifetime and hopefully pass onto my daughter, than something which will last a year or so. Chanel is a classic investment so don't be upset at all......:smile1:

Have you ever smelled a knock off? The leather has a smell that is not very pleasant-I have been told in China they process leather with different chemicals, hence the smell.

this happened to me too, a similar story. i wore my (real) woc and someone had a fake woc and was basically saying i was a doofus for paying full-price when hers was about $100 and came with a dust bag, card, box, etc. her bag did look amazing from the outside but the inside was where the difference(s) were more obvious. but from the outside, identical. you'd have to know your Chanel brand to know it was fake. i get that they save a ton of money, but it's a throw-away bag since they can't resell it and it just doesn't make you feel the same as wearing the real thing.
