Being Banned From Coach Stores - Did You Read?

The SA I spoke with today was talking about how resellers came in and wiped them out. I had asked why they allowed it (sold to them) if they knew they were resellers and she said that they have to wait to receive a letter/notification to ban the individual reseller before they can tell them they aren't allowed to purchase anymore. Hmmm....

You would think they would stop people like that dead in their tracks rather than giving letters out to true loyal customers!

Has this happened to anyone? I just have never heard of it or had it happen to me. I am a huge Coach lover and probably spend about $1,000 each month and always pay in cash. I have actually never had them ask for my id... just name and zip code.

If they are insistent on ID, what's to stop a reseller from producing a fake ID just to get their goods? A DL means nothing really.

:hugs:

Can't imagine how you might've felt while waiting in line, but I am happy to hear that you are going through with the returns, and putting this behind you.

Just wanted to give an update on the status of all my NWT returns I gathered up from my closets after I got my ban letter a few weeks back ....
I just got back from vacation over the weekend and spent 3 hours last night going through and highlighting/numbering/matching up my receipts w/ the items to be returned to the outlet.
I caved and decided to end up breaking my returns (by CC) up into two trips (trip #1 was tonight) returning stuff purchased on two separate cards. I plan to go before the weekend to make trip # 2 to return the rest of my items (which are on two other CCs (one of which is expired, so I guess I'll end up getting a check refund for those items?).

Of course I got a newbie SA tonight and it took almost 40 mins. for her to process the return for my 17 items....My grand total credited back to these 2 CCs was $995. I just counted and I still have 35 more items to return so I'm guessing that will be another $1,500 right there. (BTW, 95% of my 52 items was accessories...I really had no idea how many accessories I actually had in my collection).

I was a little embarrassed at first when I put all the shopping bags on the counter, but it got easier the longer I was there....I was good and even kept "blinders" on so I wouldn't get tempted to look around at the current stock.
One of the managers (apparently unaware of my 'banning') did say, "WOW that's a lot of returns, any particular reason for all these returns?", so I told him that Coach banned me and if they no longer wanted my business I no longer wanted to spend my money there, and was returning everything I had that was NWT.. Of course there was no response to my comment, he just sort of wandered away as if he hadn't heard me.

What I did find quite ironic was that in the 40 mins. I was there, two diff. people checked out in the lines on either side of me who each bought three of the SAME style and color purse, and no one said a word to them.
After wracking my brain these past two weeks, I've come to the conclusion that Coach's whole business model makes absolutely no sense at all....and that's all I have to say about that!

Last year, in April 2010, I was banned from shopping at Coach. Over the past year I went on a letter writing campaign in an attempt to try to understand why I was being labelled a reseller and in hopes of getting the ban lifted. However to no avail, since I am still banned, lol. I sent letters to 6-7 Coach Execs, including Loss Prevention complete with pictures of my extensive Collection of their brand. I received 2 empty replies from a corporate lawyer, but it seems once you're banned they are not interested in reviewing anything on your behalf.

I am very private about personal things, and I never wanted to mention this. I'm sure there are lots of other banned customers who haven't admitted, and quite frankly it's no one's business unless you want it to be. However, in light of reading through this entire thread, I cannot believe the similarities between me and a couple of recently banned members. Notably, we each shopped in Leesburg outlet and have extensive collections that fill a room. I don't know if the Leesburg connection has any merit, but it is odd to me. Reading through this where ladies have wondered if Mgrs/SAs might be reporting customers to LP, also makes me wonder. Because about 10 years ago a Boutique Mgr had a problem with me making some returns w/o the receipt. An SA that I was friendly with in that store informed me that the Mgr had reported me to LP. Sure enough, I received a letter that I could no longer return w/o receipts. So I know firsthand that customer activity that an employee finds questionable can be reported and acted upon. The question still remains how much investigation is actually done by LP?

In one of the replies that I received Coach backs off of the reseller tag, but states that my purchase & return history points to fraudulent activity. Now I know that a company wouldn't be so clueless to make such a claim w/o something leading them to believe this. But I have not intentionally nor knowingly committed fraud. I've spent alot of time thinking about all the types of transactions that I've done and one type that I know lots of ladies on this board have admitted to is buying from retail, holding onto the item for if/when it shows up at the outlet for less, then returning, rebuying, exchanging. Seems harmless, but if you buy alot and do this with some regularity, that could be the source of some of our woes? Eventhough I was an avid collector, I was never interested in having every color of an item. However, that being someone's practice it might also be cause for receiving the letter. Since Coach won't give specifics on how they came to the conclusion to ban me, it does make me wonder about the generic manner they use of labelling someone as a reseller, the reason for the ban.

From what I've read here, alot of the questions people ask are friendly & are simply to find out how they might not fall victim to getting the dreaded letter. Those questions & comments I can appreciate, and I hope that anything that I've shared might help. In the end, you can only understand the humiliation, frustration and anger if you have actually received the letter yourself.

Since I still own alot that is nwt, I regularly re-assess what I should return. Some new things that I fell in love with I'm still holding onto, but many others have been returned and the number$ are staggering. When I've made some returns a couple of the outlet SAs have come over to see what they're getting back, even commenting that I always have good stuff. If it didn't risk breaking forum rules I would let you ladies know what's going back and when. I would rather it go to someone for their own personal use because most are Ltd Ed or rare pieces, including some Legacy. One time while doing a return, I saw a gentleman trying to negotiate a better discount for a bag that I'd returned the week before. It was weird, lol.

Anyway, coachgrl is banned, but I do have a larger bank account now!

i just can't understand why anyone would have purses or accessoried for OVER A YEAR with tags on them still? if the tags are still on them and they are unused... IMO i would think you don't really want them? this thread (and forum) fascinates me... i can only think of the hoarder series when i hear stuff like that!

i may keep my tags on a week or two if i'm undecided... but i never keep anything (coach or otherwise) for a year or more! YIKES!

I don't really understand it either. If I had the funds to buy whatever I wanted, who knows, I might be one of those people! I don't have the ability to spend a lot of money without really considering the purchase first. So if I buy something it is because I really want it. I have one bag I bought last week which I plan on leaving in my closet with tags on until August. The reason I am doing that is for one thing, my DH will have my head if he sees that I bought another bag, and for another, I already have a new bag I love and want to use for a while. That is what I think some people do is they buy bags because they don't want to lose the opportunity. But if you have a lot of them it has to be hard to use them all. Then by the time they get around to using these bags they have changed their mind about them. Just my rationale!

Thank you for sharing! I also shop at the Leesburg store so I may start being more careful before I get the letter. I love that store because they have an amzing selection but recently the SA's have become very friendly with me even bringing me bags from the back. When I can't decide between two bags, I will get them both.

Maybe I will expand my shopping to the Potomac Mills store. Has anyone in here been banned from there?

Thanks for your feedback and insight Coachgrl!! I definitely agree that my buying FP/waiting/returning rebuying at the outlet was 90% of my returning and probably contributed to the mess I got myself in (although in all my years of buying I've never returned w/out a receipt). This was definitely a live and learn process....

Good question....I don't claim to be a psychologist but just googled 'why people collect' and found this interesting article.

http://nationalpsychologist.com/articles/art_v16n2_2.htm

I'm not sure why I collect, could be the 'quest' of finding a 'missing' item to complete a purse 'set' (purse/mini skinny/wristlet/wallet/ etc....)but I'm sure it has deeper roots as well. When I look back in my past, I've gone through phases (since my grandmother died in the mid 90s) of collecting things- first I tried completing my grandmother's Royal Albert teacup collection, then moved on to collecting Longaberger baskets, Partylite, SLAH etc.... Hopefully after this life lesson, I'll try and stop 'collecting' but I'm sure it will be a lifelong battle (like losing weight:p)

Good for you, it will feel good to have the returns behind you, and all that money back in your pocket.

I recently did a return on a card that was reissued under a different card number when the old card expired, but it was the same account. The SA was able to ring up the return but said it would take a few extra days to credit to my account ... and it did credit back to my new card. So you shouldn't have any problem with that. GL!

thanks for the info....Will let them know what happened w/ my cards and hope it works.

The BAD news seems to be that everyday people(not resellers) are getting banned for buying too much Coach.
The GOOD news is that there are so many OTHER GREAT, QUALITY brands to buy instead.
