Being Banned From Coach Stores - Did You Read?

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate

Why would they limit it? It sounds like they welcome people who are buying in bulk, if there is a happy trigger finger for LP then the letter will come soon for them as well.

Because they supposedly enforce limitations......
I would expect that they don't welcome people who are buying in bulk
but I guess with some folks they do....isn't that the issue here? The inconsistencies?

Holy cow, Mayhurst I can't believe you got one too! This is really getting ridiculous what Coach is doing....I don't have any stock, but sounds like since you do, you might have an inside edge in contacting stockholders and could put a bug in someone's ear as to what Coach Corporate is doing.... I'm sorry this has happened to you too!!!:flowers:

I totally agree! Imagine banning one of their own stockholders from shopping in their store!

Mayhurst I think you could make this a VERY BIG issue if you choose to. I'm thinking the media would be very interested to hear about this .

Surely one of our members is in the media? What a great article this would be!

Watch out ladies...I just received "the letter" (same as CA-Annonymous's) and I have never sold ANYTHING EVER of any kind. The manager actually seemed uncomfortable and sorry to hand it to me, so I think they are generated at the corporate level. In fact, she was kind of encouraging me to call the number on the letter. I told her that I'd heard of others trying that with no success. Guess it's time to find another habit/hobby. I'll be purchasing NON-Coach items for the many birthday, teacher, and graduation gifts I give. Knowing what they are doing to their loyal, non-reselling customers is making me seriously consider selling my 10,000+ shares of their stock I've owned for years.
10K shares isn't small potatoes! So many suggest writing letters to corporate and get no response. I suspect a letter from a 10,000 share stockholder or a copy of the letter at an annual meeting might be more apt to have an impact.

Actually, I've bagged everything that has a tag and am looking forward to returning some really nice items that I hope wind up in the hands of tPFers, although it would be ironic if they got snatched up by resellers. I feel like I've made a BIG dent in my spring cleaning and have actually turned this into a positive...I am cleaning things out like I never have before. My daughter is going on a mission trip this summer and honestly I will feel much better helping her effort with the money I get back. Another silver lining pointed out by a very sweet tPFer is the pressure and hassle of changing out purses will be greatly diminished without all of the new bags and accessories to add to the rotation. The only splurge might be on a non-Coach handbag (something I haven't done in about 25 years). Not sure what I will do about the Coach I have used. The ones I really like, I will probably just remove the hangtags so they are not advertisements for Coach, the rest I'm not sure about since I have NEVER sold ANYTHING.

Regarding whether or not to take this up with Coach, I do not plan to because I feel like they betrayed me by falsely labeling and banning me and I would no longer enjoy carrying the brand. Life is much too short too worry about fighting with people like Coach apparently has working for them, as I am painfully aware of with a sister who is dying of cancer. Really, the letter was a reminder to refocus on what is more important in my life and spend my Coach time on things more meaningful to me. I may spend a little time on another site recommended by that same sweet tPFer I referred to earlier. After all, I need some fun diversions from the job of being a FT mother...at least that one won't fill my closet.

The support I've received here has been comforting after being betrayed by Coach, a brand I truly liked and enjoyed. I'm probably going to stop checking the Coach forums in a few days, so please understand that I might not see replies or questions to respond to. Thank you so much for being such sweet, fun "cyber friends." I wish you all the best. :hugs:

OMG mayhurst, what a classy response to a stressful and disappointing situation. I agree with your approach of seeing the positive aspects of this, as crappy as that ban may be. As a significant private shareholder though, perhaps give some thought to BeenBurned's suggestion after you've had a few days to digest everything. Your words might reach more influential ears than those of us who have little or no money invested in the company. As a shareholder you're a part owner of Coach's equity. I've seen org charts for public companies where shareholders sit at the "top" of the chart. Shareholders are the ones to which boards and executives ultimately have to answer.

Best of luck to you and prayers for your sister.

At the current price of +- $64/share, you hold a hefty upper hand!!

Mayhurst,
After hearing of your banning and of CA's banning I dont think I need to shop at Coach anymore - I was going to buy some teachers gifts but will get them some Vera Bradley instead.
Might stop at the outlet today to take a look one last time and then I am done.
Coach is going to lose a lot of business from its loyal customers

Wouldn't it be funny if all the TPFers who got the ban letter packed up their stuff and agreed to bombard the stores (boutique and factory) with returns at the same time? Say X:00 Eastern time... on a certain date? Maybe one time for factory stores and another for boutique store returns?

I hate hearing about the ban letters. I made a serious dent in my wallet recently and feel I need to do some returns to offset this. More bags still NWT than I can use.

But then in "fear" of the dreaded letter. I suppose as mayhurst says, if that happens, one moves on to other things. I lived most of my life w/o Coach and could do so again.

Sorry ladies - I haven't read the entire thread but I have a question. Does getting a ban letter at the outlet also mean you're banned from the FP boutiques? Do the FP boutiques hand out ban letters?

It's Coach stores as a whole, factory and FP. I don't know, but believe, you can be handed the letter in either place. Some customers receive it in the mail.

Purchases at independants such as Dillard's, Macy's, etc. are not affected.

Unfortunately, I don't feel like I believe in the brand anymore after this experience. I'll let you all know if I decide to pursue it and how it goes, however.

mayhurst.... while i completely understand you not believing in the brand anymore.... perhaps you should think of it more as being the spokesperson for all the coach fans here at TPF that you've interacted with over the years... YOU have the voice that can be heard! i hope you reconsider and use your inflluence to have this heard! i'm not saying you have to buy coach again... just help bring their gross handling of customers to light!
