Being Banned From Coach Stores - Did You Read?

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

There are not any SA's that make commission. Associates are all limited to how much they can buy. There are certain times when an associate can buy a little more (deletes) and this may have been one of those times. It is very much against policy for an employee to resell and it is something that can result in losing your job. When there are special times to buy some associates buy for a friend or for gifts, but that is also monitored and limited.

An SA at one of my outlets told me they aren't even allowed to put bags on hold. Maybe she was referring to clearance items because that doesn't sound quite right. She saw my khaki/berry HS tote and told me that they rarely get them, and when they do, the bag is out the door like that! I would seriously think that sucks if they can't put bags on hold, especially since they work there. Ugh, I'd be all over a Sabrina like a mad woman!

(1) Keep all of your receipts
(2) Don't take tags off your bags until you're sure you're going to keep them
(3) Don't buy multiple of a particular bag at a time
(4) Don't check ebay prices for the Coach bag you're buying on your Blackberry while you're standing in line
(5) Actually use a Coach bag as your current purse when you're shopping in a Coach outlet

If you follow these rules, I think everyone can stop worrying about "the letter".

And yes, I've seen number 4 happen, and it was in conjunction with number 3.

wow, this is great info. i had to laugh at #4, even though i know its serious. just sounds so funny.

this would a great post to put in a perm "sticky" so everyone can read if they have a concerns about getting "the letter"

as for #3, i think even though one may buy a bag on one trip , go back in about 5 days and buy the same bag again, and maybe a 3rd in a short period, could raise a flag as well. since Coach is probably tracking purchases.

Well, the above is not official anything! It's just common sense, really. Everyone panicks so much about the letter, but when someone does get it, there is usually something awry, even if there were no bad intentions.

And number 4 was a joke. :) Well, it really did happen, but it was a joking way of saying the common sense rule -- "Don't do anything that would arouse suspicion!" :)

I am very bad though about impulse buying and then returning or exchanging... I need to probably work on limiting my impulse buying- I am just afraid if I don't get something and then decide that I do in fact want it that the opportunity will have passed and the item will have sold out.

Good posts smalls & mzedith!

I am the same way, especially with Coach. I impulse purchase or if I'm not sure about a purchase I buy it any way because it might be gone if I return to buy it, especially at the outlet! So I do end up doing a lot of returns. In fact I returned a mini skinny today, even though it was only $17 I just decided I already have a ton of them and I don't need it. That is probably my 2nd or 3rd return this year.

I always do save my receipts and never remove the tags. But I do get paranoid I will be banned, although it probably highly unlikely.

Hi, I'm not normally hanging around in this subforum, but found this thread linked from another. Nice to meet you guys =)

I don't get it - unless you're using a credit card or shopping at the same store allllll the time, how can they track you down? If you pay in cash and go to several different stores, then how would they know?

Btw, I'm asking out of curiousity - there ARE no coach outlets where I live, and I don't have a selling account on ebay =)

I think that people who are buying multiples to deprive women of getting them at store price to overcharge online deserve to be banned. By the way, Maxie25, PCE stands for preferred customer event. Certain customers who have shopped Coach before get a 25% off card for a certain week in full-priced Coach stores.

they ask for your name and/or phone number at the check out (regardless of method of payment) so they can pull you up in their system. buying history also plays into if you get a pce invite.

They aren't allowed to demand a name and/or phone number at checkout anymore- at least not in California. I see people (mostly men) buying huge amounts of Coach, lots of duplicates, at the Camarillo outlet and nobody says anything. I would think that the SAs would be trained to not allow this in order to keep inline with Coach's resale policy, etc. However, it is obvious to someone brand new to the outlet that those people are buying to resell the items. It is ridiculous.

Oh gosh. I'm actually quite nervous. I never brought more than two items at the outlet until today. I went a little crazy and got seven things: two purses, two keyfobs, and three skinnies. I hope that's okay :(

I know that there's a limit of ten items per two weeks, and I have no intentions of going back to purchase more, but still... I hope they're not thinking I'm a reseller (it's just that school is starting soon and I won't be able to go to the outlet more until maybe next year. Hence, the early xmas shopping/gifts for friends).

That kind of volume should be FINE. Really. Don't even think about it.

I didn't read through all these replies but I'll let you know something that tips off employees: Buying several bags, claiming they are for yourself, and then asking for gift receipts. They collect quite a bit of evidence of your purchases before they actually enact the ban though. Unless you are an actual reseller, I wouldn't worry about buying too many purses and getting banned. We have a lot of regulars who spend thousands a month on purses for themselves and we would NEVER ban them! lol.

I have to shake my head at all this...it's kind of stupid. If you have a company, why would you NOT want people to buy your products??

Coach doesn't want people to COMPETE with them. This makes perfect sense. They don't want unauthorized people to profit off of Coach products. Imagine if you designed your own line of purses and sold them locally... Would you want someone to buy half of your stock from you so they could resell them at a higher price somewhere else and profit off of your hard work? I don't think you would.
